What Restream can and cannot do with Dropbox videos
Importing Dropbox files
Restream’s documented import flow is to open Video Storage, choose Dropbox, paste the video link, and import the file. The link must be public or set to “Anyone with link”; private, invited-only, and password-protected links will not import. Supported formats are MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV. File-size and duration limits depend on the add-on tier. See Restream’s Dropbox import instructions.
If a file uses an unsupported format, convert it to a supported format before import. Keep the original in Dropbox or another backup: Restream says its hosted video storage is not a replacement for a hard drive or other backups. A playlist plays once; a single-video loop repeats
Restream’s playlist feature allows up to 40 entries and up to 24 hours of total playlist content, but does not repeat the playlist. Its separate prerecorded-event feature can loop one video up to 10 times, with a stated maximum stream length of 40 hours. The loop option is available on Marathon and Media plans. Do not treat a 40-hour single-video loop as an indefinite 24/7 playlist. Restream says it does not impose a stream-duration limit, but warns that maintenance may restart streams running continuously for more than 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours. It also says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, while YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours, according to Restream’s stream-duration guidance.
Restream plan limits and prices to recheck
Restream’s playlist help page lists Marathon with a 4-hour library and 1080p maximum, and Media with a 12-hour library and 4K maximum. - Playlist behavior: Does the selected plan rotate the playlist indefinitely, or does it stop after one pass?
- Source workflow: Can the service import Dropbox links, or must you upload each recording to its own library? Does a Dropbox link need to be public?
- Capacity: Confirm per-file size and duration, total playlist duration, item count, and storage allowance.
- Recovery: Ask whether a dropped YouTube connection or ingest interruption is recovered automatically, and how long recovery takes.
- Destination and output: Confirm YouTube support and any resolution or bitrate caps for the exact plan.
- Archive needs: If you need a YouTube replay, account for Restream’s warning that YouTube archives streams under 12 hours; plan a separate archive workflow for longer broadcasts.

If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Dropbox likewise says you should share only files you own or have permission to share.
