The Canon MAXIFY GX2020 is another true bottle-refill model to compare. If you are considering the Brother MFC-J4335DW, note that it uses replaceable cartridges feeding an internal reservoir rather than user-filled ink tanks.
What counts as a refillable ink tank printer?
A true refillable ink tank printer has integrated reservoirs that you replenish with compatible ink bottles. Epson describes the EcoTank ET-3850 as cartridge-free and specifies T502 ink; Canon describes the MAXIFY GX2020 as an integrated-tank MegaTank model with keyed, squeeze-free bottle filling. Those designs are different from a high-yield cartridge printer, even if it has an internal reservoir.

Epson states replacement yields of 7,500 black and 6,000 color ISO pages for T502 ink, based on its stated ISO/IEC 24712 pattern and methodology. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed counts or a directly comparable cross-brand test. Epson cautions that actual yield varies with image content, settings, temperature, humidity, printing frequency, and maintenance ink use; infrequent printing or printing predominantly with one color may lower output. Check the care guidance in the printer’s manual if it will sit unused for long periods.

Brother MFC-J4335DW: high-yield cartridges, not bottle refills
Brother states that high-yield replacement cartridges for the MFC-J4335DW can produce up to 6,000 black and 5,000 color pages; it also lists an ADF rated for up to 20 pages. Brother’s “up to 1 year of ink” in-box claim assumes about 150 pages per month with a 60% black and 40% color mix. Brother says the calculation uses four included cartridges, whose starter yields are approximately 75% of replacement LC406-series yields because of ink-system initialization. Compare the features that affect daily use
Yield estimates say little about whether a printer fits your actual workflow. The documented figures below come from manufacturers; they do not establish print quality, reliability, or total ownership cost.

How to choose for your home or small office
For occasional household printing
Compare the printer’s purchase price with the price of its compatible replacement bottles in your region. Then consider whether an ADF or automatic duplexing would actually save time: without an ADF, multipage scans require more hands-on work; without automatic duplexing, double-sided jobs require manual handling. If printing is infrequent, account for the possibility of maintenance ink use and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
For a shared home office
Prioritize the workflow features you will use repeatedly: ADF capacity for scanning, automatic duplexing for two-sided documents, tray capacity to reduce paper reloads, and Ethernet if the printer needs a wired network connection. Compare ADF capacity and scan workflow, not just ink yields. The documented ADF ratings are 30 sheets for the Epson ET-3850 and up to 20 pages for the Brother MFC-J4335DW. Those numbers describe feeder capacity; they do not by themselves establish scan speed or quality.
For high monthly print volume
Estimate your monthly pages and the share that will be black versus color, then compare current local replacement-ink prices for the specific models available to you. A manufacturer’s claimed savings percentage is not a universal cost-per-page result: actual economics depend on the buyer’s usage, ink prices, and maintenance needs. Do not compare unlike yield methods as if they were a controlled head-to-head test.

Epson supplies an ISO/IEC 24712 basis for the ET-3850’s stated replacement yields and cautions that real output varies with conditions and maintenance.
