If you save a mix of articles, PDFs, videos, newsletters, podcasts, and social threads, the right app depends on whether you want a reading queue or a searchable archive. Readwise Reader has the broadest documented reading and annotation workflow; Raindrop.io is the strongest fit for organizing varied bookmarks and files; Instapaper focuses on clean, offline-friendly reading; and Matter combines reading with transcript-based audio and video features for its listed platforms.
These recommendations reflect features described by the services, not a controlled hands-on comparison. A longer format list does not guarantee that every source will import completely, especially when a site blocks extraction or a sharing method sends only a link.

Choose between a reading queue and a bookmark archive
A read-it-later app is mainly for turning things you intend to read or listen to into a usable queue. A bookmark manager is mainly for keeping diverse links and files organized so you can find them later. Some apps do both, but they emphasize different jobs.

Readwise documents support for articles, newsletters, RSS, EPUBs, PDFs, videos, and tweets or threads. It combines saving with highlights and annotations that sync into Readwise. Capture method matters. Readwise says its browser extension is its most robust capture path because it can access rendered page content. Some mobile sharing paths—including certain native news apps or Android browser sharing—may pass only the naked URL, which can lead to partial parsing when content is blocked. Its documentation says a paywalled article can be fully captured only through the iOS Safari share path while logged into the site. For podcasts, Readwise describes a workflow that creates a transcript from a saved podcast link so it can be highlighted or used with Reader features. The service frames this as a companion to podcasts, not a full podcast player. Readwise adding-content documentation

Its product page says users can read articles, view videos, and browse from the library, as well as upload PDFs, images, videos, and other files. It also says it can search saved-page, PDF, and YouTube content and automatically create copies of web pages and files. Those features make it a natural candidate when retrieval and varied saved material matter more than a dedicated reading queue. Check capture, devices, and plan limits before moving your library

- Devices: Confirm support for your phone, computer, browser, and any e-reader you plan to use. Matter’s stated platform scope is iPhone, iPad, and web; the other services list different device workflows.
- Reading or retrieval: Decide whether you mainly want to finish an unread queue or preserve a searchable archive of links and files.
- Workflow: Check whether you need annotations, full-text search, text-to-speech, transcript access, offline reading, or export and review features.
- Plan gating: Verify current pricing and which tier includes the exact feature you need. Feature availability and subscription terms can change.
Sending saved material to a Kindle e-reader is optional, not a requirement.
