Best PS5 Controller Alternatives for Different Budgets and Play Styles

A practical comparison of PS5 controller alternatives, with model-specific trade-offs in layout, competitive controls, modularity, platform support, and DualSense features.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you want a PS5 controller that differs from Sony’s standard DualSense, start with the feature you care about most—not a supposed budget-tier ranking. The Nacon Revolution 5 Pro suits players who want PS5, PS4, and PC support and extensive configuration; the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro emphasizes competitive controls; and the modular Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded lets you change its layout. If first-party PS5 integration and removable stick modules matter most, compare them with Sony’s DualSense Edge. These controllers make different trade-offs, especially around haptics and adaptive triggers, so check model-specific support before buying.

How to choose a PS5 controller alternative

There is no established, complete low-to-high price ranking among these options, and the cited prices are historical review figures rather than live quotes. Compare the models against your own budget ceiling and play style instead.

  • Layout and comfort: Decide whether you prefer the PlayStation-style symmetrical stick layout or an offset-stick arrangement. Check the shape and weight in person if possible; the cited information does not establish a consistent comfort winner.
  • Competitive controls: Count the extra controls you will actually use, and check whether they are rear buttons, remappable face or shoulder buttons, trigger stops, or selectable trigger modes.
  • Modularity and stick technology: Removable stick modules, interchangeable sticks, and swappable control layouts are different features. Verify which parts are replaceable and what comes in the regional bundle.
  • PS5 features: Do not assume a third-party controller reproduces DualSense haptics or adaptive triggers. Check support for the exact model; the Nacon explicitly lacks both, while the cited evidence does not establish DualSense-feature support for the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro.
  • Platforms and connection: Confirm PS5 compatibility, plus PS4 or PC support if you need it, and whether wireless play uses a dedicated USB dongle. A controller’s PlayStation license does not by itself establish support for every DualSense feature.
  • Price and upkeep: Check current local pricing, included accessories, and the availability of replacement parts or modules. Review-time prices should not be treated as current retailer offers.

Which alternatives fit which play styles?

Nacon Revolution 5 Pro: PS5, PS4, and PC with extensive configuration

Nacon lists the Revolution 5 Pro as compatible with PS5, PS4, and PC. Its four rear shortcut buttons can be mapped in classic mode, while the app’s advanced configuration offers more than 60 setting variations. That makes it a candidate for players who value tuning and cross-generation compatibility over retaining all of the standard DualSense experience. Nacon’s product and support page says the controller has no haptic feedback or adaptive triggers. Its vibration works in PC and PS4 games, not PS5 games.

Nacon says battery life is 10 hours or more depending on settings. The controller does not support waking the PS5; Nacon says a Sony DualSense is needed to wake the console. It also supports only its dedicated dongle for wireless use. Nacon says spare parts are intended to be available through its MyNacon portal, but check current availability rather than assuming a particular part can be ordered.

Razer Wolverine V2 Pro: extra controls for competitive play

Razer describes the Wolverine V2 Pro as an officially PlayStation-licensed wireless controller for PS5 and PC, and positions it for competitive play. Its listed controls include six remappable buttons, HyperTrigger functionality, an eight-way microswitch D-pad, and interchangeable thumbsticks. Wireless connectivity uses an included USB-A dongle over 2.4GHz. See Razer’s product page and product announcement for the model’s features.

This is a sensible shortlist option if extra remappable controls and trigger features matter more to you than a standard DualSense setup. PlayStation licensing establishes the product’s licensed status, not haptic or adaptive-trigger support; the cited product information does not establish that it offers those features.

The reviewer also describes Hall effect sticks and triggers and reports testing the controller for a week across PS5 and PC games. Those are the reviewer’s reported findings, not an independent comparison against every controller here. Read the TechRadar review for its full assessment.

Consider it if you want to change the physical control layout for different games or prefer the fightpad option. TechRadar listed a review-time price of $209.99 / £179.99 in 2025; that is a publication-context figure, not a current price or a guarantee of availability in your region.

Sony DualSense Edge: first-party benchmark for configurable controls

The DualSense Edge is the first-party comparison point here if you want configurable controls and removable stick modules while staying with Sony’s controller line. Check Sony’s regional product page for current bundle contents and compatibility details. TechRadar’s 2025 review comparison listed $199.99 / £199.99 for the Edge; this is not a live price quote.

Razer Raiju V3 Pro: another high-end option to compare

Tom’s Guide reports that the Raiju V3 Pro works with PS5 and Windows 11, uses TMR thumbsticks and Hall effect triggers, and offers four customizable, removable back buttons. It supports 2.4GHz wireless or USB-C, but the review reports that it lacks haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Those model-specific details make it a possible fit if you want removable back controls and modern stick and trigger technology, but they do not make it a necessary choice for every buyer. See Tom’s Guide’s review. Its reported $219 / £199 price is from the review’s publication context, not a current quote; a publication year is not established here.

How to make the final choice

  1. Set your maximum spend using today’s local listings. The review prices cited above are historical snapshots: TechRadar listed $209.99 / £179.99 for the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded and $199.99 / £199.99 for the Edge in 2025; Tom’s Guide reported $219 / £199 for the Raiju V3 Pro in its review context. None is a current-price guarantee.
  2. Choose your priority. Favor Nacon for PS5/PS4/PC support and extensive app configuration; Wolverine V2 Pro for its listed competitive controls; Victrix for physical modularity; Edge for Sony’s first-party configurable-control comparison; or Raiju V3 Pro if its removable back buttons and reported stick and trigger technologies suit you.
  3. Verify the trade-offs on the exact model page. Check haptics, adaptive triggers, the preferred stick layout, connection method, included modules, console wake behavior, and any parts you may need. Do not infer one maker’s features from another controller in its range.
  4. Confirm regional availability and bundle contents. Product pages and retailer listings can vary by region, and the cited review prices do not establish current stock or local pricing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
