The best alternative depends on what you mean by “Pinger” and what you need the number to do. For a no-charge personal number in the US, Google Voice is the cost-first option; for a paid number you can switch or delete, consider Burner; Hushed is another paid app-based line; and MySudo is designed for keeping multiple contact identities separate. None of these choices makes you anonymous, and virtual numbers may not work with every verification service.
First, check which Pinger product you use
Pinger is a company and product family, not just one second-number app. Its products serve different purposes, so compare the service that matches your current use rather than assuming every Pinger product is a privacy tool.

- TextFree: Pinger describes it as a free texting and calling app with a free number.
- Sideline: positioned as a second number for privacy, work, or personal use.
- Index: a business line with customer-management tools.
Pinger’s support comparison lists its free Pinger offering at $0 and Pinger Plus at $9.99 per month. Both include a second number and unlimited calls and texts, while the table lists ads on the free app and verification calls and texts and number reservation as Plus-only features. Both require Wi-Fi or mobile data. Check Pinger’s current product details and price before switching, since its names and plan terms may change. Pinger plan comparison; Pinger products.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Voice Basic | Eligible US users who want a no-charge personal line | US only; requires a personal Gmail account and a phone number for call forwarding | No charge for Basic | Number associated with a Google account |
| Burner Standard | A paid number you may want to rotate or discard | US numbers; availability varies | $7.99 for one month or $47.99 for 12 months ($3.99/month when billed annually), on Burner’s US web pricing page | Can swap or delete the private number |
| Hushed | Paid app-based lines, including multiple lines | Comparison source describes US, Canada, and UK service with regional variation | US Apple App Store listing showed three lines for $18.99 monthly or $180.99 yearly; prices are localized | App-based line; details vary by subscription |
| MySudo | Separate contact identities for different contexts | US, UK, and limited Canadian number availability; UK number acquisition requires accurate legal identity information | Not stated in the cited product information | Maintain distinct Sudos, each with its own contact details |
Prices and availability above reflect the cited services’ published information and can change. Burner’s annual figure is billed for 12 months, not month-to-month; Hushed’s cited price is for three lines, so it is not a like-for-like comparison with Burner’s one-number plan. Choose based on the job you need the number to do
For a free personal number in the US: Google Voice
Google Voice Basic is a reasonable starting point if you are in the US, have a personal Gmail account, and want to avoid a monthly charge. Google says Voice can handle calls, texts, and voicemail on the web and mobile. It is not a universal international option: Google lists Basic as US-only, and its setup requires a phone number to forward calls. Google also states, “Google Voice saves and processes your call, text, and voicemail information.” Treat that data practice and the Google-account connection as part of the trade-off, not as evidence of anonymity. For a number you may want to rotate: Burner
Burner’s Standard plan is aimed at users who want a separate private number and the option to swap or delete it. Its pricing page lists one number, unlimited calls and texts, and US web prices of $7.99 for one month or $47.99 for a 12-month subscription. The annual option works out to $3.99 per month when billed annually, but the full annual amount is charged for the term. Burner says subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled and that cancellation is handled through the purchase platform. Its page’s prices are not a guarantee of the price everywhere or indefinitely. For a paid app-based line: Hushed
Hushed is another option for app-based calling and texting. The reviewed US Apple App Store listing describes unlimited talk and text in the US and Canada for its one-line and three-line subscriptions. The listed three-line subscription was $18.99 monthly or $180.99 yearly. Hushed says prices display in local App Store currency, so the amount can vary by storefront and may change. Compare the actual number of lines and billing period you need before judging it against another service’s price. The comparison source describes availability in the US, Canada, and UK but notes regional variation; confirm support for your location directly. Hushed listing in the US App Store; Hushed.
For several separated identities: MySudo
MySudo organizes contact details into multiple “Sudos,” each with its own phone number, handle, and email. It says you do not need a personal phone number or email to begin. That does not mean every number can be acquired without identifying information: MySudo requires accurate, up-to-date legal identity information to obtain UK phone numbers. The company says, “Share your Sudo Handle to make voice calls, video calls, and send messages without revealing your phone number.” That describes sharing a handle instead of a number; it is not a promise that the service or its users are anonymous. MySudo lists US, UK, and limited Canadian number support, so check your country before choosing it. MySudo.

Decide whether you need to keep, rotate, or separate the number
A second phone number can be an ongoing contact line, a temporary buffer, or one of several distinct identities. Choose the number-management model before comparing features:
- Keep an ongoing line: Google Voice ties its number to a Google account. Consider whether you are comfortable with that account relationship and the service’s stated data practices.
- Rotate or discard a number: Burner promotes swapping or deleting its number. Review its subscription and cancellation terms, and avoid assuming a deleted number can be recovered.
- Separate several contexts: MySudo’s multiple Sudos let you keep distinct contact details for different uses. Country-specific signup rules still apply.
Do not assume a virtual number will pass verification
Virtual-number acceptance is decided by the service sending the code, not just by the number provider. A vendor-authored comparison warns that banks, government portals, and apps may detect or block virtual numbers. The outcome can vary by recipient and change over time; no provider here can guarantee that every verification text or call will arrive. If a particular bank, government portal, or account makes verification essential, check its own rules before relying on a virtual number. A local carrier SIM is a more appropriate fallback to investigate for that need, but it is not a guarantee of acceptance either. Confirm local coverage, device compatibility, activation requirements, and the recipient service’s rules. Second Phone Number Services Compared.

What “private” does—and does not—mean
A second number can help keep your primary number off a listing, conversation, or signup, but it does not automatically hide your identity from the provider or the people and services you contact. Signup requirements, account links, number availability, and data handling differ by service and country. Google explicitly says it processes call, text, and voicemail information; MySudo’s no-personal-phone-or-email setup statement has a specific UK-number identity-information exception. Paid, ad-free, or switchable-number features should not be treated as proof of anonymity.
