To tell whether an Amazon price is genuinely low, compare it with the product’s earlier prices—not just a crossed-out list price. Amazon’s built-in price history is a quick place to start; Keepa and CamelCamelCamel add options such as price alerts, wishlist monitoring, and browser tools. The right choice depends on how much history you need, which Amazon marketplace you use, and whether you want to install an extension.
What Amazon price history can tell you
A price-history graph puts today’s listed price in context: it can show whether the item has recently been cheaper or whether the current price is near a recent low. It cannot establish that a sale is the best price the item will ever reach, or predict when a price might change.

Amazon’s shopping assistant—renamed Alexa for Shopping from Rufus on May 13, 2026—can answer price-history questions. Amazon says shoppers can also open the history from a product detail page. Its help article describes 30-, 90-, and 365-day views. Amazon says the feature is available to customers in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India, while 365-day insights were rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India. Example questions Amazon lists include “Has this item been on sale in the past 30 days?” and “What’s the price history?” You can also ask whether it is the lowest price recently. A chart is most useful when you compare like with like: make sure you are looking at the same product and marketplace, and remember that a product page may offer different sellers or versions.

Which tracker should you choose?
Use Amazon for a quick check
Start with Amazon’s built-in history if you only need to check whether the current price looks high or low relative to the available recent window. It avoids installing a separate browser extension, and its shopping assistant can answer a price-history question directly.

Choose Keepa for alerts or marketplace comparisons
Keepa is a fit if you want price-drop or availability alerts, Lightning Deal tracking, charts on Amazon product pages, or comparisons across marketplaces it supports. Keepa says it tracks more than 7 billion Amazon products; that is the company’s own figure, not an independent measure of coverage or accuracy. Its Chrome listing’s features, permissions, and data disclosures can change, so consult the current listing before adding it to your browser.

Choose CamelCamelCamel for wishlist watches or a bookmarklet
CamelCamelCamel is worth considering if you want notifications and charts, want to monitor items saved to a wishlist, or prefer a bookmarklet to installing an extension. Its tools page also documents browser add-ons for placing charts on retailer pages.

Check extension permissions before installing
A browser extension can make charts and alerts easier to reach, but it adds software to your browser. Read the current store listing’s permissions and privacy information rather than assuming all extensions handle data the same way. Keepa’s Chrome Web Store listing describes access involving Keepa and Amazon domains, cookies, network access, and local storage, and says the extension handles personally identifiable information. Keepa also offers a separate API for developers and people building data workflows. Its documentation covers price histories, product data, marketplace offers, deals, best-seller lists, seller information, and update notifications. What price trackers cannot promise
A historical chart provides context, not a forecast. Prices can change after you check, and a past low does not show whether an even lower price will return. The cited service descriptions do not establish that one tracker is more accurate than the others or that using a tracker guarantees savings. Use the history to make a better-informed decision about the price in front of you, not as a promise about the next sale.
