A seat cushion can make a hard seat more manageable, but rules differ by stadium—some venues limit size and materials, while others prohibit cushions. Check the current policy for your specific venue before choosing or packing either item.
What to look for in a portable blanket
Choose a blanket that is easy to pack and carry to the venue. The NFL’s clear-bag guidance says fans may bring blankets by tossing them over a shoulder or arm and proceeding through screening. That is NFL guidance, not a guarantee for every stadium, event, or venue; check the event’s entry rules before you go. NFL clear bag policy

What to check before buying a stadium seat cushion
Cushion rules are venue-specific. Before buying or bringing one, check the stadium’s current policy and compare it with the cushion’s measurements and construction. Relevant details include size, softness, pockets, metal or other hard components, and whether it will fit in your seating space.

Blanket or cushion: which should you bring?
| Option | What it helps address | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Portable blanket | A portable layer while seated in cold conditions. | Packability, carrying convenience, and the event’s current entry guidance. |
| Seat cushion | A portable seat pad for a stadium seat. | Whether cushions are allowed, plus permitted dimensions, softness, pockets, hard parts, and fit in your seating space. |
If you want one item that is less dependent on cushion-specific rules, start by checking blanket guidance for your venue. If you prefer a cushion, confirm that the exact design meets that venue’s requirements before purchase; a general product label such as “stadium cushion” does not establish that it will be admitted.

Check entry rules before game day
- Find the official policy page for the specific stadium or event, rather than relying only on a league-wide policy.
- For a cushion, compare the listed size and construction rules with the exact item: check measurements, softness, pockets, zippers, metal, and hard components.
- For a blanket, confirm how the venue treats blankets at screening and how it must be carried.
- Recheck the policy close to the event in case the venue has updated its prohibited-items list.
For example, the NFL says blankets can be carried over an arm or shoulder through screening, while its guidance excludes some large traditional cushions. SoFi specifies a cushion size limit and construction restrictions; Allegiant prohibits cushions. These differences make the venue’s own current policy the deciding factor.
