Choose Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Let’s Go, Eevee! for Catch Combos, lures, and the Shiny Charm; Pokémon Legends: Arceus for mass outbreaks; or Sword and Shield if you want encounter or breeding hunts with community-reported odds. Scarlet and Violet add broad overworld hunting and occasional event-specific outbreak opportunities, but the cited official event announcement gives no permanent odds. Your best option also depends on whether the target Pokémon is available and Shiny-enabled in that game.
How the games compare on odds and hunting tools
The numbers below are not a like-for-like official comparison. Pokémon’s official pages cited here describe mechanics or events without publishing comparable odds. The Sword and Shield figures come from an undated Smogon University community guide; treat them as reference estimates for the listed encounter types, not as official Pokémon probabilities.

| Game | Available approach | Odds evidence | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Let’s Go, Eevee! | Catch Combos, lures, and the Shiny Charm | Smogon’s undated community guide reports base odds of 1/4096. Boosted method-specific figures are not stated here. The Pokémon Company’s official strategy article confirms that the named boosts improve odds but does not give exact probabilities. | Players who want to build a Catch Combo and combine named in-game boosts. |
| Pokémon Legends: Arceus | Mass outbreaks and, after the Daybreak update, massive mass outbreaks | Not stated in the official Daybreak update page. | Players who want outbreak-based hunts, including chances at Pokémon that are ordinarily difficult to find. |
| Pokémon Scarlet / Pokémon Violet | Overworld hunting; special mass outbreak events can offer event-specific Shiny opportunities | No permanent odds are stated in the cited official event announcement. Pokémon.com reported increased Shiny likelihood for special mass outbreak events announced on 22 July 2025. | Players interested in overworld hunting and checking event announcements for limited opportunities. |
| Pokémon Sword / Pokémon Shield | Encounter hunts and Masuda-method breeding, as covered by community guides | Smogon University’s undated community guide reports ordinary encounter odds of 1/4096, or 1/1365 with the Shiny Charm. For Masuda-method breeding, it reports 1/683 without the charm and 1/512 with it. | Players choosing between encounter hunts and breeding, and comfortable relying on an undated community reference for odds. |
An odds fraction describes the chance on an individual check; it is not a countdown or a promise that a Shiny will appear within that many encounters. Actual results can take much longer or arrive sooner.
Which game should you pick?
Pick Let’s Go for Catch Combos and layered boosts
The Pokémon Company’s official Let’s Go strategy article, “Keep That Catch Combo Going,” recommends building a combo above 30 for hunting and identifies lures and the Shiny Charm as additional boosts. It also cautions that a Shiny may still take time: “These Pokémon are extremely rare even in the best of times, so it’s a serious accomplishment when you do find one.” The official article does not quantify the improved odds, so it supports the method, not a precise boosted-rate comparison.

- 3 complete Pokémon TCG decks (60 cards each)

- Eevee deck includes 2 copies of an all-new promo card featuring Galarian Obstagoon
- 1 instruction sheet to help you set up to play

Pick Legends: Arceus for outbreak-focused searches
The Daybreak update adds massive mass outbreaks. The official update page says these “offer a chance to catch Pokémon that are ordinarily difficult to find!” That makes outbreaks a clear reason to choose the game, but the update page does not provide odds that can be compared with the other titles here.
Pick Scarlet or Violet if you want overworld hunts and event opportunities
The official Pokémon.com article dated 22 July 2025 announced special mass outbreak events with increased Shiny likelihood. That is evidence for those announced events only; it is not a general rate boost or a current event calendar. Check official announcements for event availability rather than assuming the opportunity is active.

Pick Sword or Shield if breeding is part of your plan
Smogon’s community guide covers both encounter hunts and Masuda-method breeding, giving these games a documented comparison between those approaches. Its publication year is not shown in the cited result, and its figures are community-reported rather than official. Do not treat them as a guarantee for a particular Pokémon or every game situation.
Check the target Pokémon before committing to a hunt
A game’s hunting tools matter only if the Pokémon you want can be obtained there and its Shiny form is available. Pokémon HOME compatibility is not proof that every species can be transferred in every direction, nor that it can be hunted as a Shiny in each compatible title. Nintendo Support lists Legends: Arceus, Scarlet, Violet, Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and the Let’s Go games as compatible Switch titles; check the target species’ availability in the game itself before choosing a method.

For Pokémon GO, there is no useful universal Shiny rate to apply to every Pokémon or event. The official help article warns that not every Pokémon has a Shiny variant available and directs players to official blog announcements for availability. Confirm that your target is currently eligible instead of assuming that a general rate applies.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is not a complete ranking of every Pokémon game
The available evidence does not establish a comparable odds table across the current Pokémon catalog. The official material provides mechanics, update details, or event-specific information, while the quantified Sword and Shield and Let’s Go figures come from community guides without a publication year shown in the cited results. There is not enough reliable, dated odds information here to rank Pokémon Legends: Z-A numerically, and compatibility listings alone do not establish that Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl is the better Shiny-hunting choice.
