For a new, unlocked phone in the United States under $600 before tax, the Google Pixel 10a is the clearest Android option in this comparison—but its 128GB model was reported at $599 on October 2, 2026, not the $499 often quoted in older reviews. For iOS and MagSafe, consider the iPhone 17e after checking its current price; consider the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE only if a sale brings the model you want below $600.
Best phones under $600 at a glance
These are priority-based choices, not a lab-tested ranking of every phone on sale. Prices and availability can change, and only a model whose current unlocked price is below $600 before tax qualifies.

| Phone | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 10a, 128GB | Android shoppers who value a smooth-refresh display | Android Central reported a US price of $599 on October 2, 2026. Verify the live price and stock. |
| Apple iPhone 17e | Shoppers who want iOS and MagSafe | Confirm current unlocked US pricing. Its 60Hz display and single rear camera are tradeoffs. |
| Samsung Galaxy S25 FE, 128GB | Shoppers who want a larger display and a dedicated telephoto camera | Samsung’s US MSRP effective March 2026 was $649.99. It fits only if a current discount takes it below budget. |
| Samsung Galaxy A56 | Shoppers considering a larger-screen Samsung | Current US unlocked price and availability were not established here; check both before treating it as an under-$600 choice. |
Why the Pixel 10a is the main Android pick
Google’s specifications list a 6.3-inch pOLED screen with a 60–120Hz refresh rate. That range gives it a higher-refresh option than the 60Hz iPhone 17e, which may make scrolling and motion look smoother. The specification does not, by itself, establish a head-to-head performance or display-quality win.

Android Central reported on October 2, 2026 that the US 128GB Pixel 10a had risen from $499 to $599, with the new price live at Google, Amazon, and Best Buy at that time. At $599, it is technically under the $600 ceiling before tax, but leaves almost no room for a price change or added fees. Many reviews written at the earlier price may no longer describe its value accurately.

When the iPhone 17e makes more sense
Choose the iPhone 17e if iOS and MagSafe matter more to you than a faster-refresh screen or a more flexible rear-camera setup. TechRadar lists the phone with a 6.1-inch OLED display, a 60Hz refresh rate, a single rear camera, and 256GB or 512GB storage options. Its guide identifies the A19 chipset, but those specifications do not settle whether it is the best fit for your apps, accessories, or ecosystem.
The available information does not confirm a current US unlocked price for the iPhone 17e. Check the exact storage model’s price before counting it as an under-$600 recommendation; do not assume that a listing, carrier promotion, or trade-in offer represents the unlocked retail price.

When to consider a Samsung Galaxy instead
Galaxy S25 FE: buy only if the sale price qualifies
The Galaxy S25 FE is a sale-dependent option, not a phone that meets this budget at its listed US MSRP. Samsung’s official price list, effective March 2026, gives the 128GB model an MSRP of $649.99 and the 256GB model an MSRP of $709.99; Samsung says prices may change without notice. A 2026 review points to its larger display, dedicated telephoto camera, and faster charging as potential attractions if discounted. Confirm that the specific unlocked storage variant is actually below $600 before tax.
Galaxy A56: check US availability and price first
TechRadar includes the Galaxy A56 among current inexpensive Samsung options and describes a 6.7-inch display and multi-camera specifications. The available information does not establish its current US unlocked price or availability, so its inclusion here is a prompt to verify—not a claim that it meets the budget.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

How to choose the right phone for your budget
- Set the price rule. Compare new, unlocked phones at their current pre-tax checkout price. Keep carrier bill credits, trade-ins, used listings, and other conditional offers separate from an unlocked retail price.
- Choose your operating system. Pick Android if you want the Pixel or are considering Samsung; choose iOS if Apple’s ecosystem and MagSafe are priorities.
- Match the camera setup to your needs. The iPhone 17e has a single rear camera. The Pixel and Samsung alternatives in this guide offer more camera flexibility; the S25 FE is specifically noted for a dedicated telephoto camera. More lenses do not guarantee better photos, but they can give you more framing options.
- Compare display feel, not only screen size. The Pixel 10a is specified at 60–120Hz, while TechRadar lists the iPhone 17e at 60Hz. Samsung’s A56 is listed with a 6.7-inch display, but the available information does not establish its refresh rate.
- Check storage and the exact variant. Confirm capacity, regional model, unlocked status, stock, and compatibility with your carrier. A price for one storage tier does not establish the price of another.
- Recheck at checkout. Prices can move; verify the final device price before tax and distinguish a generally available price from a time-limited or conditional deal.
What the price evidence does—and doesn’t—establish
The Pixel figure is a point-in-time report from Android Central, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. The Samsung figures are official US MSRP values effective March 2026, not a promise that a retailer will charge those amounts now. The iPhone 17e and Galaxy A56 are included as options to investigate, but their current US unlocked prices were not established here. Check the exact phone, storage tier, and seller before buying.
