For high-resolution wired PC VR, the Pimax Crystal Light is the strongest starting candidate in this comparison. It pairs a manufacturer-listed 2880 × 2880 pixels per eye with 35 pixels per degree (PPD), a 110° horizontal field of view (FOV), and native DisplayPort. The Pimax Crystal Super offers higher listed resolution and a configurable wider FOV, but whether your PC can drive it well depends on the simulator and settings. Quest 3 and Bigscreen Beyond 2 suit different priorities: Link flexibility and standalone use for Quest 3, or a compact micro-OLED headset with SteamVR tracking for Beyond 2.
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent head-to-head test results. For cockpit readability, compare resolution alongside pixel density, optics, FOV, fit, tracking, connection method, and the frame rate your PC can actually sustain.

Which specs matter most for cockpit clarity?
Per-eye resolution and pixel density
Per-eye resolution describes how many pixels the display renders for each eye; PPD estimates how densely those pixels are distributed across the view. Both help explain potential detail, but neither guarantees that small instruments will look sharp. Lens clarity, how the headset sits on your face, and the rendered image also affect what you can read.
Among the models compared here, Pimax lists Crystal Super at 3840 × 3840 per eye and 50–57 PPD, and Crystal Light at 2880 × 2880 per eye and 35 PPD. The figures are from Pimax’s product comparison page; they are manufacturer specifications, not independent optical measurements.

FOV and optics
A wider FOV can show more of the cockpit or surrounding scene, but values are not automatically comparable across manufacturers, especially when measurement methods differ. Pimax lists Crystal Light at 110° horizontal FOV and Crystal Super at 106°–140° horizontal FOV. Bigscreen lists Beyond 2 at 116° diagonal FOV, a different axis; its page notes that FOV measurement depends on methodology. Compare like with like where possible, and assess the actual lens clarity and fit rather than treating one headline angle as a complete ranking.
Refresh rate and actual simulator performance
A headset’s supported refresh mode is not a promise that a PC can render the simulator at the matching frame rate. Pimax lists Crystal Light modes of 72, 90, and 120 Hz; Crystal Super lists 72 and 90 Hz. Meta lists Quest 3 at up to 120 Hz, while Bigscreen lists Beyond 2 at up to 90 Hz. The achievable result depends on the GPU, CPU, simulator, graphics settings, runtime, and scene complexity. No cross-headset simulator benchmarks are established here.

Choose Crystal Light for a high-resolution DisplayPort starting point
Crystal Light combines 2880 × 2880 pixels per eye, 35 PPD, 110° horizontal FOV, and DisplayPort connection, with inside-out tracking. Pimax lists the headset at 815 g, a relevant consideration for long stints; fit and perceived comfort still vary by person. Pimax markets its headset range for racing and flight simulation, including titles such as iRacing and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Those listings are not proof that every game, PC, or runtime setup will work identically.

Pimax says Crystal Light uses native DisplayPort and advertises “No video compression.” That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently measured comparison against Quest Link or another headset in the evidence available here.
Choose Crystal Super if you want more listed resolution or FOV range
Crystal Super’s published 3840 × 3840 per-eye resolution and 50–57 PPD exceed Crystal Light’s listed values, and its 106°–140° horizontal FOV range is wider at the upper end. These specifications do not establish how well a typical gaming PC will sustain a desired simulator resolution and frame rate. Check the GPU and simulator settings you plan to use before treating the higher specification as a practical improvement.

Choose Quest 3 for Link flexibility and standalone use
Quest 3 can connect to PC VR through Quest Link by cable or Air Link wirelessly, according to Meta’s Link guidance. It is the alternative here if you value that connection choice and standalone use as well as PC simulation. Its listed per-eye resolution is lower than the Pimax Crystal models, but the sources do not establish a side-by-side clarity or latency result; connection type alone does not determine the full visual experience.

Choose Beyond 2 if a compact micro-OLED headset suits your tracking setup
Bigscreen Beyond 2 uses dual micro-OLED displays and SteamVR tracking, and its listed maximum refresh rate is 90 Hz. Make sure you have, or are prepared to set up, a compatible SteamVR tracking ecosystem. Its 116° FOV is listed as diagonal, so it should not be compared directly with horizontal FOV figures as if measured on the same basis.

Treat Varjo Aero as a used-market purchase, not a current shortlist pick
Varjo explicitly marks Aero as discontinued on its product page. Anyone considering a used unit should verify the headset’s condition, required SteamVR tracking equipment, software support, and seller terms. Continued support and used-market availability are not established here.

DisplayPort versus Quest Link
Crystal Light and Crystal Super specify DisplayPort 1.4a plus USB 3.0. Quest 3 uses Quest Link, either by cable or Air Link. These are materially different PC connection paths, but the listed specifications do not provide a controlled comparison of compression, latency, or image quality. Choose based on your preference for a wired DisplayPort setup or Quest’s Link options, and check the exact PC and software requirements for the product you buy.
Inside-out versus SteamVR tracking
Crystal Light uses inside-out tracking, while Bigscreen Beyond 2 and Varjo Aero depend on SteamVR tracking. Tracking requirements affect room setup and any additional hardware you may need. Confirm what is included with the specific bundle and what your existing system supports; accessory compatibility and bundle contents are not established by the specifications listed here.
Quick Recap
Check your PC, fit, and purchase terms before buying
- GPU and simulator: Look up requirements for your specific headset, runtime, and target title. Test or plan settings around a sustainable frame rate rather than assuming the headset’s maximum refresh rate is achievable.
- Fit and comfort: Check weight, facial interface, IPD adjustment, and return terms. Crystal Light’s listed weight is 815 g; comparable weights for the other models are not established in the cited specifications.
- Price, warranty, and availability: Current pricing, stock, warranty terms, and return policies are not established here. Verify them with the manufacturer or seller before ordering.
- Compatibility: Pimax lists iRacing, Assetto Corsa EVO, rFactor 2, Automobilista 2, F1 24, and Le Mans Ultimate for sim racing, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, DCS World, X-Plane 12, IL-2 Sturmovik, Aerofly FS4, and Prepar3D v6 for flight simulation. These are Pimax’s compatibility listings for its headset range, not independent tests of every title and configuration.
