For The Simpsons Game Recomp, start with 60 FPS, your monitor’s native resolution, 1x render scale, and the default FXAA setting. Raise render scale only if performance remains smooth. This is a community recompilation of the 2007 Xbox 360 game—not an official PC edition and not The Simpsons: Hit & Run. It requires your own Xbox 360 copy.
Which PC version does this guide cover?
These settings apply to The Simpsons Game Recomp, a community project that recompiles the 2007 Xbox 360 game for Windows and Linux, with Steam Deck use also described by the project. It does not include the game itself. Check the project repository for the current build, platform support, and setup instructions; its launcher options and behavior can change over time.

This is not a settings guide for The Simpsons: Hit & Run, a different game. Nor should these recommendations be assumed to apply to a PCSX2 emulation setup.
What FPS should I use?
Set the frame rate to 60 FPS to begin. The project describes 60 FPS as its default and recommended setting. Choose 30 FPS if you prefer to match the original console’s frame rate. The project’s frame scheduler cannot exceed 60 FPS, so selecting 90 or 120 FPS will not give the game more frames and may make frame pacing less even. See the project’s settings documentation for current guidance.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
What resolution and render scale should I set?
Use your display’s native resolution and 1x render scale as the starting point. Render scale controls the resolution at which the game image is rendered: raising it to 2x or 3x can produce a sharper image and cleaner cel-shaded outlines, but it also increases GPU work.
FXAA is enabled by default on new installs, according to the project documentation. Leave it on initially; it smooths edges at relatively low cost. If you want cleaner outlines and have performance headroom, try a higher render scale before changing other settings.

How should I tune performance?
- Begin with a stable baseline: set 60 FPS, native display resolution, 1x render scale, and leave FXAA at its default.
- Check the in-game FPS display: play in the area where performance matters to you, rather than judging from a menu or a less demanding scene.
- Change one graphics setting at a time: if performance falls short, lower render scale first. If it is smooth and you want a sharper image, test 2x and then 3x.
- Keep the setting that fits your system: there is no published performance matrix here for different PC hardware, drivers, and scenes, so treat your own results as the guide.
The project documentation gives one specific example: on Steam Deck, 1x holds 60 FPS, while 2x runs at about 59 FPS in Springfield, identified as the busiest area, with occasional drops. That is a project-reported result for that device and scene, not a general benchmark or a promise for other hardware. Check the project documentation for updated performance notes.

Rebind inputs in the launcher’s Keyboard & mouse section; actions can use multiple keys or mouse buttons. If an in-game prompt shows controller buttons, press F1 to see keyboard equivalents. Controller input is supported too, so use whichever input method you prefer; it does not provide a graphics or performance advantage. Consult the project’s control documentation if labels or options differ in your build.
Where are settings and save files stored?
The project stores settings in simpsons.toml next to the executable. The launcher manages part of that file, so make routine changes through the launcher rather than editing its managed block by hand.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUsing PCSX2 instead?
If you are playing the PlayStation 2 edition in PCSX2, use PCSX2’s current documentation and its game compatibility page for game-specific issues and workarounds. Recomp settings such as its 60 FPS option, render scale, and launcher controls do not transfer directly to PCSX2. An optimal emulator configuration depends on the host system; no universal PCSX2 setup is established here.

What performance can you expect from your PC?
The project material does not establish universal minimum or recommended PC specifications, or a performance comparison across graphics cards, drivers, and game scenes. Use the in-game FPS display and adjust render scale on your own system rather than treating one device’s result as predictive. Because the recompilation is evolving, verify current platform and setting details in the repository.
