For Android, Bitwarden, 1Password and Dashlane all document biometric vault unlocking and autofill support. There is no evidence-based universal winner: whether autofill works smoothly depends on your phone, Android version, the app or website’s login fields, and the manager’s settings.
It helps to separate two features that work together during sign-in: biometrics unlock the manager’s vault, while Android autofill lets the manager offer saved credentials in apps and browsers. Confirm both features on your device before choosing.

How biometric autofill works on Android
A typical sign-in involves two distinct capabilities. First, your password manager can ask Android to verify a fingerprint, face or another supported biometric to unlock its vault. Second, Android’s autofill integration can offer a saved username and password in an app or browser. A manager having one capability does not prove it supports the other, and neither guarantees that every login screen will be recognized.

For example, 1Password says Android reports whether the biometric was recognized; 1Password does not scan or store it. Bitwarden likewise says it does not receive biometric data because validation uses native device APIs. Your account or master password remains important for account protection and fallback authentication.

Compare the Android options
| Manager | Biometric unlock | Android autofill | Documented limits or fallback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitwarden | Fingerprint or face, subject to Android biometric strength requirements. Bitwarden requires Class 3 biometrics; face support varies by device. | Can be enabled as Android’s autofill service and can match vault items to apps or websites. | Custom fields and split-login workflows are not currently supported in mobile autofill. Bitwarden warns that a malicious app could imitate a known package name, so autofill only in trusted apps. |
| 1Password | Fingerprint, face or iris if the method is enabled in device settings and offered by the device. | Android setup details are not stated in the cited biometric and security documentation. | Android reports recognition rather than sharing biometric data with 1Password. The account password remains part of account protection. |
| Dashlane | App biometrics such as face or fingerprint are documented. | Supports autofill in third-party apps and browsers; select Dashlane in Android settings. | Dashlane says Master Password account users may need to enter the password after restarting the device and periodically for security. |
These details come from vendor documentation, not comparative testing. The documentation does not establish autofill success rates, comparative prices, free-plan limits or regional availability; check current plan details and device support before deciding.
Choose based on the issue that matters to you
If you want documented app and website matching
Bitwarden documents setting it as Android’s autofill service and matching saved items to apps or websites. Its stated limitations matter if your logins use custom fields or a split sign-in flow, such as entering a username on one screen and a password on another.

If your device offers a particular biometric
1Password documents fingerprint, face and iris unlocking when the chosen method is enabled in Android settings and supported by the device. Bitwarden’s Class 3 requirement is more specific: a face-unlock feature on a particular phone may not meet that standard. Check the phone’s biometric capability rather than assuming all face recognition is equivalent.

Set up and check autofill safely
- Install the password manager from a source you trust, then sign in and save a test login.
- Enable a device biometric in Android settings if you plan to use biometric vault unlocking. The exact settings path and available methods vary by Android version and phone.
- In the password manager’s Android settings or setup flow, enable its biometric unlock option and follow the on-screen prompts. The biometric must be available on the device; Bitwarden additionally requires Class 3 strength.
- Set the manager as Android’s autofill provider. Dashlane’s documentation directs users to select Dashlane in Android settings; Bitwarden’s help explains enabling it as an autofill service. Labels and menus may vary by device.
- Test a login in the apps and browsers you actually use. Confirm that Android offers the expected saved credential and that biometric unlocking works. Some fields and login flows may not be recognized.
- Use autofill only in trusted applications. Bitwarden specifically warns that a malicious app could imitate a known package name.
Can you transfer passwords when switching?
Google announced an Android password and passkey transfer experience for Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden and Dashlane, with additional partners expected. This is a dated rollout announcement, not a guarantee that the feature is available on every phone or app version. Check your current Android and manager versions for transfer options before switching.

Official feature documentation establishes that these managers offer relevant Android biometric or autofill capabilities and describes some setup requirements and exceptions. It does not establish which manager autofills most reliably across devices, which plan is best value, or which free tier meets a particular user’s needs. Your result depends on the Android device, operating-system version, biometric hardware, app fields and vendor settings. Choose the feature set that fits your login patterns, then verify it with the apps you use.
