For an Android phone, the right over-ear headphones depend on more than the headset’s codec list: your phone must support the same codec, and battery estimates depend on how the headphones are used. The Sony WH-1000XM6, Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless and Bose QuietComfort Ultra each offer a different mix of noise cancellation, device switching and sound controls. Manufacturer specifications can help narrow the choice, but they do not establish which model sounds best to every listener.
Which over-ear headphones suit an Android phone?
Start with the features you will use most: battery life with noise cancellation, compatibility with your specific phone, device switching, and the available sound controls. The figures below are manufacturer claims, not results from a shared test. In particular, the three battery estimates were produced or described under different conditions and should not be treated as a direct real-world ranking.

| Model | Listed codecs and Android considerations | Manufacturer battery estimate | Other useful features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony WH-1000XM6 | SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3. Sony separates Classic Audio codec support from LE Audio; the phone and settings must support the intended codec. | Up to 30 hours with noise canceling on, or up to 40 hours with it off, according to Sony’s US specifications. | Multipoint, adaptive noise cancellation and app features. |
| Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless | aptX Adaptive, AAC and SBC. Check that your Android phone supports the codec you want to use. | Up to 60 hours. Sennheiser’s detailed condition is Bluetooth and ANC at medium volume using an iPhone. | Adaptive ANC, transparency, EQ and sound personalization in the app. |
| Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones | The Bose product page cited here does not establish Android-specific codec benefits, so codec-based comparisons are not supported by that source. | Up to 24 hours in Quiet or Aware mode, according to Bose. | Multipoint for two source devices, Immersive Audio and CustomTune. |
Choose the Sony if its codec options, multipoint and ANC-on runtime estimate fit your priorities. Consider the Sennheiser if its listed aptX Adaptive support and sound-personalization controls appeal to you, while treating its 60-hour estimate as tied to Sennheiser’s stated test conditions. The Bose offers two-device multipoint and its own listening features; the cited Bose page does not support a codec-focused Android recommendation.

Only if both the phone and headphones support the codec and the connection uses it. A headset’s codec list alone does not guarantee that your phone will transmit audio with that codec. Android handset models, software and regional variants can differ, so confirm the specific phone’s support before buying for LDAC or aptX Adaptive.

Sony’s WH-1000XM6 Help Guide lists SBC, AAC and LDAC for Classic Audio over A2DP, and LC3 for LE Audio. Sony describes LDAC as its high-resolution Bluetooth coding technology and says it transmits approximately three times more data than SBC at the specific bitrates being compared. That data-rate comparison is not proof that every listener will hear an improvement.
Sony also cautions that a higher-quality supported codec may need to be selected or enabled on the connected device. As Sony’s WH-1000XM6 Help Guide puts it: “If the connected device supports a codec of higher sound quality than SBC, you may need to set the device beforehand to enjoy music with the desired codec from the supported codecs.” LE Audio has separate requirements and app settings. Check the phone maker’s specifications and relevant settings, and bear in mind that Sony says Bluetooth interoperability varies by device.

How to compare battery life fairly
Use each runtime as a model-specific estimate, not a promise for your own listening. ANC use, volume, connection and other settings can affect playback time, and the manufacturers do not provide one common test across these three models. The Sennheiser figure has a more specific published condition—Bluetooth and ANC at medium volume using an iPhone—so it should not be presented as a guaranteed Android runtime.

- INCREDIBLE SOUND: Custom acoustic platform delivers rich, balanced audio for music, calls and everyday listening.
- LOSSLESS AUDIO SUPPORT: USB-C lossless audio and sound profiles optimize music quality across devices and environments. Additional option to use the 3.5 mm cable for a standard analog experience.
- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING (ANC): block distractions at work, on flights or during your daily commute. Or use Transparency mode to let the sounds of your environment mix in with your music.
- SEAMLESS WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: One-touch pairing with Apple & Android for easy switching across devices.
- SPATIAL AUDIO IMMERSION: Personalized dynamic head tracking, 360-degree sound for movies, music and immersive everyday listening.
Sony states that battery performance varies with settings and usage. Its US specification gives separate estimates for noise canceling on and off; Bose gives its estimate for Quiet or Aware mode. Compare the mode you expect to use, and leave headroom if you need headphones to last through long trips or workdays.

What do the sound features tell you—and what don’t they?
The listed features show how each company approaches sound, but they do not settle which headphone will sound best to you. Sony lists LDAC and DSEE Extreme; Sennheiser lists a 42 mm transducer system, customizable EQ and sound personalization; Bose describes CustomTune and Immersive Audio. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent evidence of a universal sound-quality winner.
Fit and preferred tuning matter alongside codec support. If possible, try the headphones with your phone and familiar music, test the fit for an extended period, and explore the available EQ or personalization controls. Use codec support as a compatibility filter rather than a guarantee of audible superiority.

Which other features should Android buyers check?
Switching between devices
Sony lists multipoint, and Bose says its QuietComfort Ultra headphones can connect to two source devices. If you move between a phone and a laptop, confirm how the model handles simultaneous connections and switching. The cited Sennheiser product information establishes its sound and ANC controls but does not establish a comparable multipoint claim.
Noise cancellation and transparency
Sony lists adaptive noise cancellation, Sennheiser lists adaptive ANC and transparency, and Bose names Quiet and Aware modes. Consider whether you need to reduce surrounding sound, hear more of it without removing the headphones, or both. The labels and implementations differ, so a feature name alone is not a direct performance comparison.
App controls and regional availability
The Sony and Sennheiser product information describes app-based features, while Bose describes CustomTune and Immersive Audio. Check current specifications, software support and availability for your region before purchase; product revisions and features can change.
Quick Recap
How to make the choice
- Check your phone. Confirm its Bluetooth codec support and software behavior for the exact handset model, especially if LDAC or aptX Adaptive is a deciding factor.
- Set your battery requirement. Compare the manufacturer’s estimate for the mode you will use, keeping the stated testing conditions in view rather than assuming equivalent runtimes.
- Choose your everyday features. Decide whether multipoint, adaptive ANC, transparency, EQ or sound personalization matters most.
- Assess fit and tuning. Try the headphones if practical and listen with your own content; published feature lists do not replace personal fit and sound preferences.
- Verify the exact model and local offer. Check the generation, current specifications, price and availability in your region.
