Best Optimum Internet Plans: Compare Speeds, Prices, and Availability

Optimum advertises 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, and 1 Gig offers, but the best plan depends on your address, connection type, household use, and the full offer terms.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no single best Optimum plan for every household: the available network, upload speed, and price depend on your service address. Optimum currently advertises 300 Mbps for $30 per month, 500 Mbps for $40, and 1 Gig for $50, subject to eligibility and offer terms. Those are advertised prices, not the same as Optimum’s standard rates. Check your address and the checkout details before choosing.

Optimum internet plans at a glance

Optimum’s current internet page showcases three main offers and says multi-gig plans up to 8 Gig are available in select areas. Its separate residential rate card lists standard prices for cable and fiber tiers. These are different price contexts, so a promotional offer should not be compared with a standard rate as if both were the same kind of quote.

Plan and source Advertised speed Published price Important context
Current main offer, Optimum internet page 300 Mbps $30/month Promotional price; address and eligibility terms apply.
Current main offer, Optimum internet page 500 Mbps $40/month Promotional price; address and eligibility terms apply.
Current main offer, Optimum internet page 1 Gig $50/month Promotional price; advertised wired download speed is up to 940 Mbps.
Multi-gig service, Optimum internet page and rate card Up to 8 Gig Not shown on the main offer page; standard fiber rate card lists 8 Gig at $300/month Available only in select areas; the $300 figure is a standard rate effective July 1, 2026, not a promotional quote.

The main offer page says its displayed prices reflect an eligible Auto Pay and Paperless Billing discount; taxes and fees may apply. It describes the showcased tiers as fiber-powered, but that does not establish that every address receives fiber. The rate card separates cable and fiber service, and local availability varies. Optimum says advertised speeds are for wired connections; actual speeds, particularly over Wi-Fi, can vary and are not guaranteed. It also warns that speeds on unlimited-data packages may be reduced during local network congestion. Check the current offer and address availability with Optimum.

Standard cable and fiber rates are different

Optimum’s residential rate card lists the following standard monthly rates, effective July 1, 2026. These are not the $30, $40, and $50 advertised offers. The card lists 1 Gig as 940 Mbps download and, for fiber, gives symmetrical download and upload speeds.

Which Optimum speed fits your household?

Optimum’s own guidance is a useful starting point, but it is provider guidance rather than an independent performance test. Your household’s number of users, simultaneous activities, Wi-Fi coverage, and upload needs also matter.

1 Gig for a heavily connected household

Optimum describes 1 Gig as suited to ultra-connected home networks. Its advertised wired download speed for this tier is up to 940 Mbps, rather than a full 1,000 Mbps; actual speed can vary. More capacity can help when many activities compete for bandwidth, but the label alone does not guarantee better Wi-Fi coverage or faster performance on every device.

Multi-gig only when the address and workload justify it

Plans up to 8 Gig are listed for select areas. A high tier is most relevant when your address qualifies and your household has equipment and use cases that can benefit from very high throughput. Check upload speed and connection type as well as the headline download figure.

Optimum Advantage Internet advertises 100 Mbps at $15 per month, plus taxes and fees, and its page also shows a separate 300 Mbps offer. Availability is limited and eligibility applies, so do not assume either offer is open to every customer. Optimum says equipment and installation are included for this offer. How to compare the offers at your address

Before deciding which plan is best, compare the actual address-specific offers on the same terms:

NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi 7 Router RS140, Up to 2,250 sq ft, 5 Gbps
  • FASTER, FARTHER, MORE RELIABLE WIFI: A dedicated dual-band WiFi 7 router built to keep up with a growing home of streaming, video calls, gaming, and smart home devices.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
  • WIFI 7 THAT KEEPS UP WITH A BUSY HOME: Up to 5 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, 1.2x faster than WiFi 6. MU-MIMO and OFDMA let multiple devices send and receive data simultaneously. Real-world speeds depend on your devices and plan.
  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Delivers up to 2,250 sq. ft. of coverage for up to 80 devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
  1. Confirm what is available. Enter the service address in Optimum’s availability checker. Note whether the offer is cable or fiber and which speeds are offered.
  2. Compare the full monthly cost. Check whether a displayed discount requires Auto Pay and Paperless Billing, how long any offer lasts, what price applies afterward, and which taxes or fees are added.
  3. Check both download and upload speeds. Fiber rate-card tiers are listed as symmetrical; do not assume a cable tier has the same upload speed. Ask what upload speed is included in the specific offer.
  4. Review equipment and installation terms. Optimum’s offer materials describe supplied equipment in some contexts, while the rate card lists equipment items and charges. Confirm the equipment and any recurring charge attached to your exact quote rather than carrying a rate-card charge over to a promotion.
  5. Read the customer and offer conditions. Verify whether the deal is available to a new or existing customer, whether a term or price guarantee applies, and what happens when discounts end.

Optimum’s internet page describes optional Whole Home WiFi, and another offer page says the provider supplies a gateway and a Wi-Fi extender if needed. Those statements do not settle the equipment terms for every address or plan; rely on the equipment details in your own offer. Review Optimum’s internet offer terms.

Availability and network context

Optimum states in its FAQ that “Optimum provides Internet service in 21 states across the U.S.” That broad footprint is not a guarantee of service at a particular home. The company’s 2025 Form 10-K reported that its fiber-to-the-home network passed approximately 3.1 million homes and businesses in 2025, with multi-gig symmetrical tiers available to substantially all FTTH customers. Network-wide figures do not establish whether your location can get fiber or a particular speed. Read Optimum’s internet FAQ.
