Reg-suit is a command-line visual regression tool. If another system creates the images, compare candidates on baseline keys, image comparison, reporting, storage, and notifications—not just on their ability to take browser screenshots. Reg-suit’s documented separation of core behavior and plugins can be a useful checklist for confirming that a proposed replacement covers every part of your existing pipeline. Migrate without losing the parts Reg-suit handles

- Select one representative workflow. Include a typical page or component and the review action developers actually take when a difference appears.
- Run the candidate in your CI environment. Compare its baseline generation, report, approval, and storage behavior with your current workflow. For Playwright, keep baseline and comparison rendering conditions aligned. For BackstopJS, exercise its scenario setup and
init,test, andapproveflow. - Check operational boundaries. For Argos, confirm current storage, review, CI, and hosted-versus-self-managed details in its documentation. For Lost Pixel, verify current availability in light of its sunset notice. For BackstopJS, account for the maintainer request.
- Move the suite only after the pilot covers the whole workflow. Confirm that image naming, baselines, reports, approvals, and notifications have an explicit replacement before retiring the corresponding Reg-suit components.
Keep visual comparisons reproducible
A screenshot difference can reflect a real UI change or a changed rendering environment.
