Which teleprompter fits your live-streaming setup?
For a solo streamer using OBS, start with a small floating prompt close to the camera lens and capture only the camera or the intended application—not the whole desktop. That keeps notes out of the outgoing stream. Choose a different approach if you need the prompt to follow your speaking pace, control several displays remotely, or sit physically in front of the lens.

How to keep the prompt out of your OBS stream
A teleprompter window is not automatically invisible to streaming software. What OBS captures determines whether your notes appear to viewers.

Open the prompt in a small, narrow window and position it immediately below or beside the lens. A narrow strip close to the lens reduces the distance your eyes travel.
- Choose the OBS source deliberately. For a floating prompt, use a camera source or a specific window/game capture source when that suits your scene. ScriptCue and Cuefyr say those capture choices exclude their prompt; the vendors warn that whole-display capture can include it. Exact behavior depends on your capture setup.
- Check every scene and transition. Record a private test or inspect OBS preview while the prompt is visible. Confirm that notes, browser tabs, notifications, and other private desktop content do not enter the output. Repeat the check for scenes that use display capture.
- Test the actual browser and device. Floating Teleprompter documents its always-on-top window for desktop Chrome and Edge. On other browsers and phones, it falls back to fullscreen, so confirm that this layout works with your streaming workflow.
Choose a scroll method you can control live
Different tools describe different ways to move through a script. A feature label alone does not establish how well it handles pauses, ad-libs, or a microphone in your room; rehearse with the same equipment and scene you will use live.

- Voice-following: Cuefyr and Castrix document voice modes; Elgato documents Voice Sync. Try the feature with your actual microphone, speaking pace, pauses, and occasional off-script remarks before depending on it during a broadcast.
For Elgato Voice Sync, the listed minimums are an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or newer on Windows or Apple M1 or newer on macOS. Cuefyr advises checking that the same microphone is selected in the prompter and OBS. Those requirements and recommendations come from the product documentation; they are not a comparative accuracy test.
When phone control, multiple displays, or hardware matter
Phone remote and synchronized screens
Castrix is the clearest documented fit in this shortlist for a setup that pairs multiple displays by QR code or uses a phone remote or Bluetooth clicker. Its manual, timed, and voice modes offer different ways to operate the script. Check the current trial and subscription terms on its site before signing up.

A physical display at the lens
Elgato Prompter is the hardware option here: a display and beamsplitter glass designed to put text near the camera eye-line, with mounting options for webcams and smartphones. It is not required for software prompting; it is an alternative for creators who prefer a physical, lens-adjacent display.
Privacy, offline use, and pricing checks
Product pages describe capabilities, not independent security or performance audits. Floating Teleprompter says its script stays in local browser storage and that it can work offline after its initial load. Treat that as the vendor’s description rather than a verified privacy guarantee. CloudPrompter describes offline support for its iOS and Mac apps; that does not establish offline behavior for every browser workflow.

Common live-stream teleprompter problems and fixes
- Your notes appear in the stream: OBS may be capturing the whole display. Switch to a camera or specific-window/game source where appropriate, then make a private recording to verify the output.
- The prompt disappears behind another app: Confirm you are using desktop Chrome or Edge if relying on Floating Teleprompter’s documented always-on-top feature. Elsewhere, use its fullscreen fallback or select a tool and layout designed for your device.
- Voice-following falls behind or moves unexpectedly: Check which microphone the prompt uses and whether it matches OBS. Rehearse with your live mic and test pauses and ad-libs; use manual or fixed-rate scrolling if voice mode is unreliable for your delivery.
- Your eyes visibly track across the screen: Reduce the prompt width and move it closer to the lens. A second monitor can keep notes off a captured desktop, but its placement still affects eye-line.
- A phone or second display does not show the right script: For a multi-screen workflow, check that the tool supports pairing or remote viewing on your chosen devices, then test synchronization before going live. Castrix documents QR pairing; OBS Teleprompter documents remote viewing.
