IDrive Personal is the clearest fit in the available product information for backing up several computers and mobile devices through one account. IDrive lists multiple computers on its Personal plan and says one account supports PCs, Macs, Linux computers, iOS devices, and Android devices. It is not automatically the best value for every household: the right choice depends on device mix, total data, storage limits, and how each provider charges for additional computers.
Can you back up multiple computers to one account?
Yes, with IDrive Personal: its plan information specifies one user and multiple computers, while its support documentation describes computer and mobile-device coverage under one account. Backblaze Computer Backup takes a per-computer approach: its help page says an additional computer receives a 15-day trial and then needs an additional license. Those different billing models make the total cost for all household computers more useful than a starting price.

What IDrive backs up across computers and phones
IDrive says one account can back up multiple PCs, Macs, and Linux computers, as well as iOS and Android devices. It says device folders are kept separate to avoid overlap. On mobile, its app description names contacts, photos, videos, calendar events, and more. That wording does not establish a full device-image backup, so check that the particular data you need is supported.
IDrive also describes support for mapped, network, and external hard drives. Its feature page says deleted files can be recovered from Trash within 30 days and that archived data is retained unless manually removed or archive cleanup is run. These are provider-stated features; confirm the current details and how they apply to your plan.

How much online backup storage do you need?
Estimate the data to protect across all devices, rather than choosing by the headline capacity alone. Include computer folders, photos and videos, and any external drives you intend to back up. Leave room for future files and check whether the service counts versions or other stored data against the quota.

IDrive’s pricing page lists Personal storage tiers of 5 TB, 10 TB, 20 TB, 50 TB, and 100 TB. Those are capped tiers, and IDrive says over-limit charges may apply. Its displayed prices and promotions can change, so compare the current recurring cost and overage terms against your household’s total backup size.

Backup is not the same as file sync
Online backup is designed to help recover protected files after deletion, device failure, or another loss. File sync keeps selected files available across linked devices and can propagate edits or deletions between them. Sync is convenient for working on the same files in several places, but a synchronized deletion may also reach the other devices. The two tools solve different problems; a sync folder alone should not be treated as a complete backup. Backblaze’s backup-versus-sync explainer describes the distinction.
What to check before choosing a plan
- Device count and types: Confirm the number of computers allowed and whether the plan covers your operating systems, phones, and tablets.
- Whole-household cost: Multiply or otherwise calculate charges for every computer when licenses are sold per computer; include the right number of accounts or users where applicable.
- Storage and overages: Compare your estimated total data with the cap, and check what happens if you exceed it.
- External drives and exclusions: Verify whether external, mapped, or network drives are supported, whether a drive must stay connected, and which files or locations are excluded.
- Retention and recovery: Find out how long deleted files and older versions remain available, and whether restoration is practical for the amount of data you may need.
- Restore options: Compare restoring through a desktop app or browser and check how large restores are handled.
Use online backup as one layer of protection
For especially important files, keep a separate local copy on a portable external hard drive as well as an online backup. IDrive and Backblaze describe external-drive backup support, but confirm each provider’s rules for drive connection, coverage, and retention. A second copy is useful only if it is protected from the same loss as the original—for example, avoid leaving the only backup permanently connected to a computer that could be stolen or affected by malware.
