Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a mostly static property listing, start with OBS streaming to YouTube Live over RTMPS using H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, Rec. 709 color and 30 fps. Use 1080p30 at 14 Mbps when your source, encoder and real-world upload connection can sustain it; choose 720p30 at 8 Mbps if the lower-bandwidth profile proves more reliable. These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation. A 24/7 stream also needs a plan for power, network, computer and source failures.
Recommended OBS settings for a real estate listing
These settings are a starting profile for a standard dynamic range (SDR) listing. They assume an H.264 stream and should be tested with the actual video, computer and internet connection before you rely on them continuously.

| OBS setting | Recommended starting value |
|---|---|
| Service and protocol | YouTube Live over RTMPS |
| Encoder | H.264 for a broadly compatible SDR profile |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps, if stable; otherwise test 1280 × 720 at 30 fps |
| Video bitrate | 1080p30: 14 Mbps recommended, 5 Mbps minimum. 720p30: 8 Mbps recommended, 3 Mbps minimum. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds |
| Color | Rec. 709, 8-bit SDR |
| Audio, if included | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz |
| Latency | Normal latency for a non-interactive loop; lower latency can increase buffering |
The bitrate figures are YouTube’s H.264 ingest recommendations in its live encoder settings guidance. They describe the video feed sent to YouTube, not the download speed each viewer needs; YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. Do not apply these H.264 values to AV1 or H.265/HEVC, which have separate guidance.

- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and connect the account or use the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key secret: it functions like a password.
- Open Settings > Output and select the streaming output mode you use. Set the encoder to H.264 if available, rate control to CBR, and the video bitrate for the profile you chose. Encoder options vary by OBS build and hardware, so do not copy a hardware-specific preset that may not apply to your system.
- In the stream output’s advanced encoder options, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds if the control is available. YouTube’s recommended advanced settings include progressive scan, 2 B-frames, 1 reference frame, CABAC and square pixels; not every OBS encoder exposes each control.
- Open Settings > Video. Set the output resolution to 1920 × 1080 or 1280 × 720 and the frame rate to 30 fps. A mostly static listing usually has little reason to use 60 fps.
- Set the color format to Rec. 709, 8-bit SDR where those controls are available. If you intend to include audio, configure the intended track for AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. If the listing should be silent, check that microphone and desktop audio are not unintentionally reaching the stream.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, review the stream preview and health notices. YouTube generally detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate automatically; manual resolution selection is available with a custom stream key. The exact controls can vary with the stream setup.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension to RTMP. For codec and protocol details, see its encoder settings guidance.

Choose 1080p or 720p based on the listing and connection
| Profile | YouTube recommended video bitrate | YouTube minimum video bitrate | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 H.264 | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps | When the original footage has useful HD detail and the encoder and connection remain stable in a representative test. It offers more room for readable property details and room features. |
| 720p30 H.264 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps | When upload capacity is constrained or testing shows this more modest profile is more reliable. Check that signs and small text remain legible. |
These values are for H.264 ingest at the stated resolution and frame rate. A higher resolution cannot restore detail that is absent from the source. Use YouTube’s minimum figures as a floor, not a target if the connection becomes unstable there; YouTube advises choosing a quality that makes a reliable stream for your internet connection. Leave practical capacity for other network use, but there is no universal headroom figure that fits every connection.
Set up and test the stream before leaving it on
- Enable live streaming early. If the channel has never streamed live, YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Follow the steps in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder before the planned start.
- Create or schedule the stream. Set its title, description, privacy and other metadata deliberately. Decide whether YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop controls fit your workflow; those controls do not make OBS or the computer resilient to failure. See Manage live stream settings.
- Build the scene for a loop. Add the listing video or stills and any readable property details. Inspect the ending and transition back to the beginning for an awkward gap or jump. Confirm the source itself loops as intended: an OBS setting cannot guarantee that a media source or plugin recovers from every fault.
- Run a representative test. Test privately or unlisted using the same kind of movement and audio planned for the public stream. Preview it in Live Control Room, read stream-health messages, and verify playback from the channel or watch page and on a mobile device. YouTube recommends testing a broadcast that resembles the actual event; its encoder settings guidance also advises monitoring stream health during the event.
- Check the connection under operating conditions. Confirm upload capacity while other devices and normal network activity are present. A wired Ethernet connection can be a useful setup choice, but it cannot fix inadequate service or an upstream outage.
- Plan for interruptions. Consider what you will do if power, the router, computer, OBS or the media source fails. Test restart and recovery procedures, assign a human monitoring schedule, and consider a backup encoder/feed only if the continuity requirement justifies the cost. YouTube describes failover testing when a backup encoder is configured, but does not promise that every stream will fail over automatically. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Review performance over time. Check stream health and public playback periodically. Keep a dated incident log so you can distinguish a bitrate, network or source change that helped from one that did not.
What can make a 24/7 OBS stream drop?
OBS settings control the outgoing encode; they do not ensure that every part of a continuous broadcast stays available. YouTube’s official guidance provides encoder recommendations and event procedures, not an end-to-end 24/7 uptime guarantee or assurance that one event can remain continuous indefinitely.

- Unstable or insufficient upload capacity: Test at the intended bitrate under ordinary network use. If health warnings or interruptions persist, try the 720p30 profile rather than pushing a higher setting the connection cannot sustain.
- Power or network outage: Check the router, service and power supply before changing encoder settings. A wired connection may remove a local wireless link from the path, but cannot prevent service or power failures.
- Computer or OBS failure: Verify that OBS can be restarted and the stream resumed, and arrange monitoring appropriate to the listing’s needs. Auto-start or Auto-stop settings do not replace a recovery plan.
- Media source or loop problem: Test the full transition from the end of the clip to its beginning and confirm the source behaves as expected over an extended test. A title-specific OBS setting cannot guarantee recovery from every source or plugin fault.
- Unexpected or missing audio: Check OBS audio meters and tracks, then listen to the YouTube preview and playback. Disable unintended microphone or desktop audio; do not add music unless you have the rights to use it.
- Stream key or setup error: Confirm OBS uses the intended YouTube stream key and that the scheduled event and encoder settings match. Treat a stream key as a secret and replace it if it has been exposed.
During a live event, YouTube advises operators to monitor stream health and review messages. There is no single OBS preset that can diagnose or prevent every failure across a computer, network, media source and platform.

Copyright and listing content to check
Use footage, photographs, music, logos and other material only when you have the necessary rights or permission for the intended use. A property listing video can contain third-party music, artwork or other material even when the footage itself is yours. For a silent listing, confirm the OBS audio feed is genuinely silent rather than unintentionally capturing a microphone or desktop sound. YouTube’s copyright safety checklist can help you review content rights before streaming.
