For a simple 24/7 fireplace stream, create one OBS scene with a local fireplace video as a Media Source, enable Loop, and fit the video to the canvas. Start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 14 Mbps video bitrate—then test that your computer and upload connection can sustain it. A continuous OBS broadcast also means keeping the computer, OBS, video file, and network available throughout the stream.

For one static fireplace scene, extra overlays and sources are optional. Keep only what contributes to the intended picture or sound.
Use VLC Video when you need a playlist
If the stream should cycle through multiple clips, use the VLC Video source and arrange the playlist in the intended order. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear in OBS. Choose video and audio output settings
Set the canvas and output resolution to the dimensions you intend to stream. The following is a starting configuration for YouTube Live over RTMP/RTMPS, not a guarantee that every computer or network can run it continuously.

These bitrate, keyframe, codec, and audio recommendations come from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings (accessed 2026; publication date not stated). Use the bitrate as a target to test against your actual upload connection and encoder. YouTube advises creators to choose a quality their connection can sustain and says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”
A fireplace is usually a relatively low-motion scene, which makes 30 fps a reasonable initial choice. OBS notes that 60 fps can be more taxing than 30 fps; choose it only when the smoother motion is worthwhile and your system sustains it. OBS streaming overview
Configure the YouTube connection and recovery

In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the option shown in your OBS version. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it.

In OBS, check the automatic reconnect option under Settings > Advanced. OBS identifies reconnect as an advanced setting; choose retry behavior appropriate for your connection and machine, since there is no universally established ideal retry value. OBS streaming overview
Test before leaving the stream unattended

Run a private or otherwise non-public test with the same video movement and audio you plan to broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and sound.

While the test is live, inspect YouTube’s stream health and messages for warnings.

Watch and listen through at least one complete loop. Confirm there is no jarring visual jump, audio cut, volume spike, silence, or unintended desktop sound; check OBS audio meters to ensure only the intended audio is active.

Check OBS for dropped frames. OBS explains that increasing dropped frames indicate the connection cannot keep up with the configured bitrate or is unstable. If they occur, lower output demands or resolve the connection problem, then test again. OBS streaming overview

For an OBS-based 24/7 broadcast, keep the computer, OBS, source file, and network available continuously. This is an operational requirement of the DIY setup, not an uptime guarantee.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |

| The video stops at the end | Loop is disabled or the wrong source type is being used. | Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check VLC Video and its loop setting. |
| VLC Video is missing from the source list | VLC is not installed. | Install VLC, restart OBS, and check the source list again. |
| The picture has borders, is cropped, or looks stretched | The source and canvas have different dimensions or the source was transformed. | Fit the source to the canvas and inspect the preview. Adjust sizing or cropping without distorting the image. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube flags stream health | The upload connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate; encoder load may also be a constraint. | Run an upload speed test, reduce bitrate or output resolution, and test again with the stream’s actual motion and sound. |
| The stream disconnects and does not resume | Automatic reconnect may be disabled or its retry behavior may not suit the failure. | Check OBS Settings > Advanced for automatic reconnect and review its retry behavior. |
| Audio cuts, spikes, or includes unrelated sounds | The loop boundary or audio mix is poor, or another OBS audio source is active. | Listen through the seam, check OBS meters, and disable or adjust unintended audio sources. |
Keep copyright and replay expectations in view
Use a fireplace video and soundtrack you created, licensed, or otherwise have permission to stream. A video being online or labeled “relaxing” does not establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s live-stream guidance also makes copyright a relevant part of setting up a broadcast; review the platform’s current requirements before going live. YouTube Help
Do not assume a stream running 24 hours or longer will produce a replay archive. The guidance cited here does not establish current archive or replay behavior for streams of that duration, so check YouTube Studio and current YouTube policy if an archived replay matters.
