For renewing YouTube broadcasts from OBS, Live Stream Segmenter is the closest match. Its OBS Forums listing describes automated broadcast renewal through YouTube APIs, with a dock for managing broadcasts and keeping each stream under 12 hours. It is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 streaming: your computer, network, audio setup, YouTube, and the plugin’s configuration can still interrupt a show.
If you need to automate scenes or sources rather than renew YouTube broadcasts, OBS’s built-in WebSocket is the more relevant tool. And if your goal is simply to leave prerecorded podcast episodes running on YouTube without keeping a computer on, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is a different approach.

Which OBS tool fits a continuous YouTube podcast?
| Need | Best fit | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Manage and renew YouTube broadcasts from OBS | Live Stream Segmenter 1.1.4, subject to its version and API requirements | It does not ensure an uninterrupted stream if OBS, your computer, connection, audio chain, or YouTube has a problem. |
| Control scenes and sources remotely or automate them with another app | OBS WebSocket, included with OBS Studio 28 and later | It is not the same as a YouTube broadcast-renewal workflow. |
| Bring a microphone, media file, camera, or other input into a production | OBS’s built-in source types | A separate plugin is not inherently needed for basic audio or media inputs. |
| Keep uploaded videos playing on YouTube without leaving a PC running | StreamNeo, a YouTube-only cloud service | It plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. |
These options solve different jobs, so there is no evidence-based universal plugin ranking across operating systems and production formats. OBS identifies itself as an encoder option for YouTube live streaming, including productions using external audio or video hardware; scenes and sources are the building blocks that assemble those inputs. YouTube’s encoder guidance and the OBS Sources Guide explain those roles.

Live Stream Segmenter: the direct match for broadcast renewal
The OBS Forums resource page lists Live Stream Segmenter 1.1.4, created January 13, 2026 and last updated January 17, 2026. The listing calls it “an OBS automation plugin that has a dock UI to manage your broadcast and to keep the length of your stream less than 12 hours.” It describes timers for renewing broadcasts automatically using the YouTube Data API and YouTube Live Streaming API, configured through your Google Cloud project. It also lists a JavaScript scripting interface and organized logs in the plugin dock and OBS log. Check the plugin listing for current details.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Requirements to confirm first
- OBS Studio 31.1.1 or later.
- YouTube live-stream permission for the channel.
- A Google Cloud project with YouTube Data API v3 enabled.
- An OAuth2 Desktop Client belonging to that project.
- A supported operating system: Windows, macOS, or Linux are listed by the resource page. The listing does not establish processor-architecture compatibility for every build, so confirm that separately before installing.
The plugin’s resource listing is a community listing, not an independent reliability test. Its developer says transitions are carefully tested and stream stability and availability are priorities; treat that as the developer’s claim, not a verified uptime guarantee. Read the listing’s setup instructions, allow time for Google credentials and API configuration, and test transitions before relying on it for a scheduled show.
What “under 12 hours” means for a continuous show
The listing’s under-12-hour target points to recurring broadcast management, not one endless broadcast. A continuous podcast can still involve separate YouTube broadcasts with transitions between them. Plan for what viewers see and hear at a transition, and monitor the first renewals while someone is available to intervene. Renewal automation cannot correct a powered-off computer, a failed connection, missing audio, rights restrictions, or a YouTube-side interruption.

OBS WebSocket: remote scene and source control
OBS WebSocket is included by default with OBS Studio 28 and later, so current versions generally do not require a separate WebSocket download. It allows external applications and scripts to control or automate scenes and sources. The OBS Remote Control Guide names clients including Macro Deck, Touch Portal, Twitchat, Streamer.bot, Deckboard, OBS Blade, Aitum, and Bitfocus Companion. See the OBS Remote Control Guide for the current connection guidance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
WebSocket is useful for tasks such as changing scenes or triggering source actions through a compatible client. It does not itself provide the YouTube broadcast-renewal workflow described for Live Stream Segmenter. OBS highly recommends protecting WebSocket with a password against unauthorized control; do not leave remote control accessible without authentication.

When OBS already has what your podcast needs
For a spoken-audio stream, OBS’s built-in audio, media, video capture, browser, image, and text sources can cover common inputs and overlays. Add a microphone as an audio input, or use a media source for prerecorded segments; scenes organize how those sources appear in the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance discusses external audio and video hardware as production options, not plugin prerequisites. A dedicated plugin is only worth adding when it solves a specific missing workflow.
Install and test without risking a scheduled show
- Check compatibility. Verify the plugin’s current OBS version, operating system, processor architecture, and installation steps on its own documentation page. OBS warns that plugins can fail when they target a different OS, architecture, or OBS version. Its Plugins Guide also describes platform-specific plugin locations and notes that the legacy Windows directory is due to stop working in a future version.
- Use a test setup first. For Live Stream Segmenter, confirm the OBS minimum, YouTube live permission, Google Cloud project, enabled API, and OAuth2 Desktop Client before configuring a production broadcast.
- Exercise the complete workflow. Test the plugin’s scheduled renewal and inspect its dock and OBS logs. Separately test any scene/source automation and verify WebSocket password protection.
- Prepare a manual recovery path. Know how to reconnect or start the next broadcast yourself, and keep an operator available for early transitions. Plugin automation cannot repair a hardware, network, content-rights, or platform problem.
- Recheck after updates. OBS or plugin updates can change compatibility; repeat a controlled test before using a changed setup for an unattended or important show.
OBS distinguishes native plugins, scripts, and WebSocket integrations: plugins can add sources, outputs, encoders, or services; scripts can interact with scenes and sources and may use Python or Lua; WebSocket lets external applications and scripts interact with OBS. Compatibility may change with later OBS versions. The OBS Developer Guide outlines these categories.

Common continuity problems and what to check
- The plugin does not load: compare its supported OBS release, operating system, and processor architecture with your installation; follow the plugin’s own installation and recovery instructions.
- Broadcast renewal does not work: check the Google Cloud project, YouTube Data API v3 status, OAuth2 Desktop Client, and the channel’s live-stream permission. Review the plugin dock and OBS logs for errors.
- A scene-control client cannot connect: confirm WebSocket is enabled, the client is configured for the correct OBS connection, and the password matches. Keep authentication enabled.
- The stream drops despite automation: check whether OBS is running, the computer has power, the internet connection is stable, and the audio/video sources remain available. Renewal logic cannot keep a machine or connection online.
- Viewers hear silence or see the wrong scene: inspect the active scene, source visibility, audio input selection, and levels in OBS; test a full transition with the actual microphone or media source.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your podcast stream is a loop of uploaded recordings rather than a live microphone production, StreamNeo avoids keeping OBS and a home computer running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud. It streams to YouTube only and does not go live from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. A slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free StreamNeo day.
