To repeat several local videos in OBS, add them as a VLC Video source and turn on Loop Playlist. Install VLC first, then connect OBS separately to YouTube Live using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The documented workflow is the general OBS and YouTube setup; the official pages cited here do not specify a separate India-only procedure.
Before you set up the playlist
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS. The VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries, so it will not appear as an available source if VLC is absent. OBS documentation says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC: OBS Project: Media Sources.
- Confirm your YouTube channel is allowed to livestream. YouTube’s general eligibility guidance requires channel verification, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and an account holder aged 16 or older: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Prepare the exact video and music files you intend to use, and establish that your church has the necessary rights for livestreaming and any archive. YouTube’s terms put responsibility for required rights, including music licensing rights, on the provider: YouTube Terms of Service.
Set up a repeating playlist in OBS
- Open the service scene. In OBS, select or create the scene that should show the playlist during the service.
- Add the playlist source. In Sources, select + → VLC Video. Give the source a clear name if prompted.
- Add and order the files. In the source properties, add the videos in the order you want them to play. VLC Video supports a playlist, similar to an image slideshow, according to the OBS Project documentation.
- Enable repeat. Turn on Loop Playlist. OBS describes this setting as controlling whether playback starts over after the source runs out of media files.
- Set the order behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the service needs a fixed sequence. Turn it on only if randomized playback is intended; shuffle is independent of looping.
- Choose what happens when the source is hidden. OBS provides visibility behavior choices that affect whether playback continues, pauses, or stops when the source is not visible. If the service uses scene changes, choose the behavior that matches whether the playlist should keep playing in the background.
- Confirm playback before going live. Check that the first item plays with the expected picture and sound, and that the playlist order and repeat behavior are correct.
Use the right OBS source for one video or several
| What you need to play | OBS source | Repeat setting |
|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Enable Loop |
| Several files in a playlist | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist; leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence |
OBS documents Media Source as the option for a single media file and VLC Video as the playlist source. The OBS source setting repeats media inside the encoder; it is not the same as enabling repeat on a YouTube watch-page playlist. See OBS Project: Media Sources.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the stream you have prepared.
- Copy the encoder details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream URL and key as required by the current OBS interface. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder.
- Start sending the encoder feed. Start streaming in OBS, then check that the stream appears in YouTube Live Control Room’s preview.
- Go live in YouTube when ready. For a scheduled event, YouTube advises waiting for the encoder preview and then selecting Go live in Live Control Room.
Treat the stream key as a credential. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in screenshots: YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTest the service before worship begins
- Test the playlist in a private or unlisted stream before the service, checking both video and audio.
- Check YouTube’s encoder preview before going live, and configure the encoder ahead of the event.
- Leave upload-bandwidth headroom: the available upload connection must accommodate the stream’s total bitrate. Monitor the connection and stream quality during the event.
- Confirm the account can livestream and that the correct scheduled stream is selected. YouTube says first-time activation of livestreaming may take up to 24 hours; allow time before a service if you have not enabled it before.
YouTube’s encoder preparation and bandwidth advice is in YouTube Help: Tips to improve your live stream; eligibility and activation guidance is in YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing | Install VLC and confirm that its architecture matches OBS. OBS documentation specifically says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
| The playlist ends instead of repeating | Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. |
| Files play in an unexpected order | Check the file order in the playlist and turn off Shuffle Playlist if the church needs a fixed sequence. |
| The playlist pauses or stops after a scene change | Review the VLC source’s visibility behavior and select whether playback should continue, pause, or stop when the source is hidden. |
| YouTube shows no encoder preview | Verify that the intended stream is selected, the stream URL and key are correct, and OBS is sending the encoder feed. Then check Live Control Room again. |
| The stream buffers or drops | Check the upload connection against the stream’s total bitrate, leave bandwidth headroom, and monitor the connection. YouTube’s encoder tips explain the need for sufficient upload capacity. |
