Original Switch accessories do not all work the same way with Switch 2, and a case or charger should not be assumed compatible just because it fit the first-generation console.

How to choose a Switch 2 carrying case
Choose a slim case for console-only travel
If you mainly carry the console, look for a case explicitly made for Switch 2 and sized to store it with Joy-Con 2 attached. Nintendo’s carrying-case instructions also cover its Switch 2 screen protector.

Cases described as all-in-one may offer space for items such as a dock, cables, or a controller, but capacity varies by model. Check the product’s dimensions and contents rather than relying on the category name.

Check clearance for your actual setup
- Confirm the case listing specifically identifies Nintendo Switch 2.
- Check whether it fits the console with Joy-Con 2 attached.
- If you plan to keep a protective shell or grip on the console, verify that the case has enough clearance for it.
- For a larger case, confirm which accessories it can hold; do not assume a dock or controller is included.
Nintendo’s documentation establishes its own Switch 2 case, not the fit of other brands’ cases with shells, grips, or additional accessories.
How to charge Joy-Con 2
Charge them while attached to the console
Joy-Con 2 charge while attached to Switch 2. For this method, Nintendo says the console must be connected to the AC adapter and either powered on or in Sleep Mode. Nintendo Support estimates a full charge takes approximately 3½ hours; this is the manufacturer’s stated estimate, not an independent measurement. See Nintendo’s Joy-Con 2 charging instructions.

Charge them off the console with the Charging Grip
The separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip (BEE-010) lets you charge Joy-Con 2 while they are attached to the grip. It is not bundled with any Switch 2 bundle, according to Nintendo Support. Do not confuse it with the ordinary grip included with the console: that grip does not charge the controllers.

Switch 2 AC Adapter
The Switch 2 AC Adapter is the straightforward choice for powering the console. A second one can be useful if you want a separate charging location. Nintendo’s charging instructions are available on its Switch 2 console charging page.

Original Switch AC Adapter
Nintendo says the original Switch AC adapter can charge the Switch 2 console when plugged directly into the console. It cannot power TV Mode through the Switch 2 dock. Nintendo also says the original adapter can charge Joy-Con 2 and the Switch 2 Pro Controller, but regional plug and model details still matter. See Nintendo’s compatibility guidance.
Unlicensed adapters
Nintendo’s US support page says an unlicensed AC adapter rated at least 54W can be used to charge Switch 2, while warning that Nintendo has not tested unlicensed products and they may have compatibility problems. That minimum is Nintendo’s stated guidance, not a blanket endorsement of third-party chargers. Check the product’s specifications and regional compatibility, and do not rely on an original Switch adapter to power TV Mode through the Switch 2 dock.

Is the Switch 2 Pro Controller the right choice?
The Switch 2 Pro Controller is the dedicated traditional gamepad option in Nintendo’s accessory lineup. Its included cable can connect it to a USB port on the Switch 2 dock or directly to the Switch 2 AC Adapter. The console does not need to be docked for the controller to charge through the dock’s USB port. Nintendo’s Pro Controller charging instructions explain the supported methods.
Nintendo Australia lists a 1070mAh battery, estimated battery life of approximately 40 hours, and a charge time of approximately 3.5 hours. Those are manufacturer specifications, and Nintendo says actual battery life varies with use. The specifications are published on Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 technical specifications page.

Can you use original Switch controllers and accessories?
Compatibility depends on the specific accessory. Nintendo says original Joy-Con controllers can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to it. Nintendo also lists the original Switch Pro Controller as wirelessly compatible. Wireless compatibility does not make older hardware identical to the dedicated Switch 2 Pro Controller; Nintendo distinguishes some features and functions.
For chargers, the original Switch AC adapter has the direct-console charging use described above, but not Switch 2 dock TV Mode power. For cases and other third-party accessories, check the exact model and fit rather than assuming that an item made for the first Switch will work. Nintendo’s Australia specifications put the qualification plainly: “Nintendo cannot guarantee functionality with all products.”
