Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For ordinary screenshots, start with Firefox’s built-in capture tools: they can save a selected area, the visible page, or a full page without installing an extension. For element-level capture or more control, use Firefox Developer Tools. If you need annotation, PDF export, screen recording, or sharing, consider a Firefox add-on—but check its current permissions and compatibility before installing it. For automated website captures outside the browser, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it removes common overlays before capture and bills only clean shots.
Which alternative should you choose?
| Option | Best for | What it offers | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox built-in screenshot | Quick, routine screenshots | Selected area, visible page, or full page; copy or download | Control labels can vary by Firefox release. |
| Firefox Developer Tools | Capturing one element or controlling output | Full-page and element capture, plus console options such as delay, device pixel ratio, selector, and filename | Requires opening Developer Tools and enabling its screenshot button or using the console. |
| Full Page Screenshot & Webpage to PDF | Long captures that need markup or document export | Crop, drawing, text, highlight, blur, PNG/JPG/PDF export, and clipboard | Cannot run on some browser pages; the tab must remain in view during capture. |
| Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder | Combining screenshots with recording and sharing | Multiple capture scopes, annotations, recording, and shareable links | Some features require Premium; its permissions include access to data for all websites. |
These options solve different problems rather than providing a verified feature-for-feature Nimbus replacement. The available information does not establish Nimbus Screenshot’s current Firefox feature set, so compare its current listing with the particular feature you need.

Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot for everyday captures
Mozilla’s desktop guide documents a context-menu workflow: right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, select an area or choose a visible-page or full-page capture, then copy or download the image. You can also add a Screenshot shortcut to the toolbar. The guide dates from June 2021, so menu names and placement may differ in your installed Firefox version.
Recommended Free Tools
Firefox’s local capture feature is distinct from Mozilla’s former hosted screenshot service. Mozilla said in January 2019 that the feature would remain while the standalone hosted server was retired; local downloading and clipboard copying remained available.
#1 Best Overall
Use Developer Tools for element screenshots and finer control
Enable the screenshot button
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open Developer Tools Settings and enable Take a screenshot under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Use the screenshot button to capture the full page and save it to Downloads.
The exact labels can vary between Firefox versions. Firefox Source Docs also describe capturing an individual element from the Inspector with Screenshot Node.
Use the Web Console helper
Firefox’s Web Console supports the :screenshot helper. Its documented options include a delay, device pixel ratio, clipboard output, file or filename, full-page capture, and CSS selector capture. This is useful when you want to target a page element or repeat captures with consistent settings. Consult the Firefox Source Docs for the syntax supported by your version; no command is included here because the available source information does not specify a complete invocation.
Choose a Firefox add-on when you need more than capture
Full Page Screenshot & Webpage to PDF
The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes an extension that scrolls through a page, joins the captures, and opens the result for editing. Its listed tools include cropping, drawing, text, highlighting, and blur, with PNG, JPG, and PDF export and clipboard copying. It also describes handling sticky navigation, lazy-loaded images, animations, independently scrolling panels, high-density displays, and very tall pages split into sections.
The listing says processing stays on the user’s computer, no server or upload is involved, and the extension makes no network requests. It separately reports the developer’s statement that the add-on does not require data collection. Those are listing and developer disclosures, not an independent security audit. The listing reported version 1.0.2 and an August 16, 2026 update date; check the current listing before installing because version, permissions, and compatibility can change.
The listing also notes that Firefox extensions cannot operate on some browser pages, including about: pages and addons.mozilla.org, and that the tab must remain in view during capture. It showed no user reviews at the time represented by the available information; that is not evidence for or against its quality.
Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder
The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes full-page, selected-area, visible-area, entire-screen, and application-window captures. It also lists delayed capture, annotation, blur, PNG/JPG/PDF saves, desktop or camera recording, and shareable links. The listing marks some integrations and MP4 video downloads as Premium and describes account-based sharing.
Its listing says basic data such as registered email, browser type and version, and service pages visited are collected; screenshots and videos are private by default unless shared. Required permissions include clipboard input, downloads, tabs, and access to data for all websites. Compare those permissions with your needs before installing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe listing names Diigo Inc. as developer and showed version 4.3.7.21, last updated November 19, 2025. It also includes the developer’s warning that Firefox’s release cycle can sometimes make the extension incompatible with the latest Firefox. These are time-sensitive listing details, not independent compatibility testing; recheck the current listing.

For screenshots generated by scripts, applications, or AI agents rather than captured manually in a Firefox tab, try ScreenshotNeo first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server—not a Firefox extension—and its distinguishing point is that it removes common consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, while only clean shots are billed.
Or skip the browser setup
Make one GET request to capture a URL as an image or PDF. This cURL example saves a WebP capture of Stripe; replace the URL with the page you want to capture. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
- Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. - The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Quick Recap
How to decide
- Choose Firefox’s built-in capture when you need a quick visible or full-page image and do not need extra editing or sharing features.
- Use Developer Tools when you need to capture a specific element or control parameters such as selector, delay, or pixel ratio.
- Consider Full Page Screenshot & Webpage to PDF for markup and PDF export, keeping its browser-page limitations in mind.
- Consider Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder when recording or share links matter, and review its permissions and current Premium feature boundaries first.
- Use ScreenshotNeo when the job is programmatic capture or an AI-agent workflow rather than a manual Firefox screenshot.
