There is no single best bitrate for every YouTube multistream. Set each output to match its codec, resolution and frame rate, then add the destination bitrates together and plan for upload capacity about 1.5–2 times that total. YouTube’s live guidance recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and RTMPS for the usual workflow. Test with representative motion and audio before going live, then monitor stream health.
Choose settings for each destination
Use YouTube’s live-ingestion recommendations for the codec, resolution and frame rate you are sending to YouTube. They are not video-upload bitrate recommendations. YouTube’s guidance does not state a publication or revision year, so check the live bitrate table before a major event in case its values have changed. The values below are YouTube’s recommended targets, in Mbps.

| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps | 34 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps | 21 Mbps |

| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 3 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 360p30 | 3 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
Higher-resolution and higher-frame-rate outputs generally need more bandwidth. Select a frame rate that suits the content and your encoder’s capabilities; YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps. The table’s listed minimums are lower than its recommendations and vary by row and codec: YouTube lists a range from 0.3 Mbps at 360p30 to 10 Mbps at 2160p60 for AV1/H.265, and from 0.4 Mbps to 14 Mbps for H.264. For the exact minimum for a specific mode, consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings; minimums are not a substitute for a tested target.

Protocol and codec
RTMPS is YouTube’s general recommendation for Live; it encrypts data on the way to and through Google’s servers. YouTube’s ingestion guidance also lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 and AV1, but whether a codec is available depends on your encoder and workflow. Confirm that your encoder and the destination support the chosen combination rather than assuming every setup can send every codec.
Color and audio
For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations specify Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Its HDR guidance specifies H.265 and 10-bit; AV1 is not supported for HDR in that guidance. For audio over RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3. It recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio; 5.1 surround is supported only through AAC, with a recommended 384 Kbps rate.

It also supports stream pushing at least 4 addresses.
- Multiple Applications - Applicable not only for basic CCTV surveillance, NVR, recording system, but also for live broadcasting like IPTV, video conference, video game, telemedicine, remote teaching, major events, WeMedia etc. With HLS(H.264 Only), you can also view live video on your smartphone, iPad directly with picture in picture.
- Multiple Protocols - TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, DDNS(3322, Oray), HLS, HTTP, HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, RTMP, SRT, TS, UDP, Multicast etc protocols supported. It's compatible with ONV/HK private prococol which allows it work with iVMS-4200/8700 and video recorded at H.265 with HK's NVR.
- Recording & Download - Pretty easy to record real-time videos if you'd like to save them into the inserted USB flash drive(128G) in MP4, just pressing the reset/record button for one second. Just press it again and it will stop recording. Easy to preview and download the recorded videos by accessing the encoder.
Budget upload speed for every destination
For simulstreaming, make a list of the target bitrate for each destination and add the values. YouTube recommends planning upload capacity at 1.5–2 times the combined target, with the higher end useful on a shared or variable connection.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Write down the bitrate target for each platform and output. Use the recommendation for that destination’s incoming codec, resolution and frame rate.
- Add the targets. For example, YouTube’s guidance illustrates a 6 Mbps stream plus a 4 Mbps stream: 10 Mbps total.
- Multiply the sum by 1.5 and by 2 to get a planning range. For that 10 Mbps combined target, YouTube’s example calls for 15–20 Mbps of upload capacity.
- Check the connection during a realistic test, including other traffic sharing it. Treat the range as planning guidance, not a guarantee of stability.
How you deliver those outputs—sending separate feeds directly or sending one feed through a relay—depends on the workflow. The bandwidth calculation is based on the target streams; it does not establish that every setup needs multiple encoders or a new computer.

Choose RTMPS or HLS for the workflow
RTMPS for the usual YouTube Live setup
Prefer RTMPS for the ordinary YouTube Live workflow. YouTube describes it as a secure extension of RTMP. In the Live Control Room, YouTube can detect the encoder’s resolution, frame rate and bitrate and transcode the incoming stream into formats for different devices and network conditions. By default, let it detect those settings; use a custom stream key or manual resolution setting only when you have a reason to control the stream mode explicitly.
HLS when the encoder requires it
HLS is a distinct option for workflows that need it, with different delivery requirements and higher latency than continuous RTMP delivery because it sends segments. YouTube says HLS disables ultra-low-latency mode. Configure it with TS segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no byte ranges. See YouTube’s encoder settings and protocol requirements before configuring an HLS encoder.

Test and monitor before and during the stream
A speed-test result alone does not show how a live production will behave. YouTube recommends a preflight test with audio and video movement similar to the planned show. Use the same encoder settings, destinations and network conditions you expect for the event, then watch stream-health indicators and alerts in Live Control Room during the broadcast.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Include representative motion rather than testing only a static frame.
- Check that audio is present and at the intended channel layout and bitrate.
- Confirm the chosen resolution, frame rate and codec are being sent as intended.
- Watch for stream-health warnings while live and respond to the indicated issue instead of assuming a successful speed test guarantees stability.
Troubleshoot common multistream problems
Dropped frames or unstable delivery
The combined outgoing bitrate may be too close to the available upload capacity, or the connection may be shared or variable. Recalculate the sum across destinations, plan for 1.5–2 times that target, reduce output bitrate or mode if necessary, and test again under realistic network load.

Soft or blocky video
Check that the bitrate target matches the incoming codec, resolution and frame rate. A recommendation for H.264 is not interchangeable with the AV1/H.265 row; likewise, 1080p60 and 1080p30 have different targets. Verify the encoder is actually sending the intended mode.
Keyframe or ingestion warnings
Set CBR, use a two-second keyframe interval and ensure it does not exceed four seconds. If the warning persists, verify the encoder’s active output profile rather than only its saved preset.
Unexpected latency with HLS
HLS is segmented delivery and has higher latency than continuous RTMP; YouTube also disables ultra-low-latency mode for HLS. Check whether the workflow requires HLS, then validate segment duration, playlist behavior and HTTPS methods against YouTube’s protocol requirements.
