The best multilingual support software depends on which parts of the customer journey it can handle in each language—not the size of its advertised language list. For UK and EU ecommerce sellers, compare incoming-language handling, agent-side translation, translated replies, AI responses, storefront chat, and localized help-center content separately. Zendesk, Gorgias, Freshdesk, and eDesk are relevant candidates, but the available product documentation does not support a neutral, evidence-based ranking of seven or more platforms or a complete price comparison.
What “multilingual support” needs to cover
A buyer can mean several different things by multilingual support. A helpdesk might let agents translate a ticket while leaving customer-facing chat in one language; an AI agent might respond in languages that its automatic-translation feature does not cover; and a help center might allow a language to be enabled without having articles translated into it. Treat these as separate requirements.

- Incoming messages: Can agents identify the customer’s language, and can messages be routed to staff who can handle it?
- Agent-side translation: Can an agent translate a customer message into the agent’s working language?
- Translated replies: Can the agent compose or translate a response into the customer’s language?
- AI responses: Which languages can AI answer in, and which languages are available for automatic translation? These lists may differ.
- Customer-facing chat and automation: Are prompts, flows, article recommendations, and order-management interactions presented in the visitor’s language?
- Help-center localization: Are articles and navigation translated, and what does a customer see when content in their language is missing?
Zendesk’s language documentation treats product capabilities, help-center languages, and AI-agent language support as distinct areas. Gorgias likewise documents ticket translation separately from multilingual chat configuration. See Zendesk’s language-support overview, its AI-agent language documentation, Gorgias ticket translation, and Gorgias multilingual chat.

1. Zendesk: teams that need distinct language workflows across support products
Zendesk is a candidate for sellers that need to configure language handling across several support functions. Its documentation is useful because it makes clear that “language support” is not a single switch.
What its language documentation establishes
- Help-center languages are independent of support languages. Zendesk explains language selection and fallback behavior, and notes plan conditions for some multi-language support. Enabling a language does not itself translate the content: help-center language setup.
- AI-agent response capabilities and automatic-translation availability are listed separately. Some languages must be entered in their native script: AI-agent language support.
- Localized help articles require corresponding parent pages in the same language; Zendesk recommends ongoing localization rather than treating translation as a one-time setup: Zendesk localization guidance.
- Language capabilities vary by Zendesk product, as summarized in its product language overview.
Some of the Zendesk links above describe related but distinct topics; read the specific plan, language, and product conditions for the capability you intend to use. The available material does not establish one universal language list, current subscription prices, or equal feature availability across products.
2. Gorgias: Shopify-oriented support with ticket translation and multilingual chat
Gorgias documents automatic ticket translation based on an agent’s language preferences, as well as the ability for an agent to generate a translation of a reply. Its chat documentation describes multilingual configuration for flows, article recommendations, and order-management features, with the presentation language based on a visitor’s browser language.

For a Shopify-led store, Gorgias also documents connecting Shopify and setting chat’s default language: Shopify connection and multilingual chat configuration. Ticket translation details are in Gorgias’s ticket translation guide.
This makes Gorgias a plausible option when both agent ticket work and customer-facing chat language matter in a Shopify workflow. The cited documentation does not provide independent accuracy measurements, a complete plan comparison, or current prices.
3. Freshdesk: multilingual ticket and knowledge content from Pro, per a 2024 article
A Freshworks partner-support article says administrators can add supported languages and manage translations for ticket fields, surveys, email notifications, and solution articles. It states that multilingual support is available from the Pro plan onwards: Freshdesk multilingual-support configuration.

The source is from 2024, so its Pro threshold and supported-language details may not reflect current plan names or terms. It does not establish an equivalent live-translation workflow for incoming tickets or translated agent replies. Freshdesk is therefore worth considering when localized ticket interfaces and solution content are the priority, but the cited material alone does not substantiate live conversation translation.

4. eDesk: a vendor-positioned option for multichannel ecommerce support
eDesk-authored comparison material positions eDesk around multichannel ecommerce support and describes AI translation integrated with seller workflows. Because those claims come from the vendor’s own comparison, they should not be treated as neutral rankings or independent evidence of channel coverage or translation quality. The source does not establish a complete plan or price comparison.
For marketplace-heavy sellers, the relevant question is whether the specific marketplaces, stores, locales, and order data needed by the support team are connected in the required workflow. The available material does not independently validate channel-count claims or seller outcomes. See the vendor’s ecommerce customer-service comparison and multilingual customer-service material.

Which option fits common seller scenarios?
Marketplace-heavy sellers
eDesk’s vendor material specifically positions it for multichannel ecommerce support. Treat that as a starting point for evaluating marketplace and store coverage, not as proof that every channel or language workflow is included. Map the marketplaces and order context your agents actually use, then confirm those connections and translation steps in a demonstration.
Shopify-led stores
Gorgias has documentation for both Shopify connection and multilingual chat, in addition to ticket translation. Zendesk may also fit teams with broader support-product needs, but its language capabilities must be checked by product and feature rather than assumed across the suite.
Teams prioritizing localized ticket interfaces and help content
Freshdesk’s cited Freshworks article describes translated ticket fields, surveys, notifications, and solution articles, with availability stated from Pro onwards in that 2024 source. Zendesk’s documentation is more explicit about help-center language setup, fallback, and the distinction between enabled languages and translated content.

How to choose and validate a multilingual support system
- List every required locale and variant. Specify languages and relevant regional variants, such as the exact European language forms your storefront serves. Don’t rely on a headline language count.
- Map the full support workflow. For each channel, record whether incoming messages need detection, agent-side translation, translated replies, AI responses, or human-language routing.
- Audit customer-facing content. Check help-center articles, categories, chat prompts, automated flows, and order-management interactions. Confirm the fallback when a translation is missing; Zendesk’s documentation distinguishes enabled help-center languages from translated content.
- Match the seller stack. Confirm integrations for the actual storefronts, marketplaces, and messaging channels, and check what order data agents can see. A Shopify app may not inherit storefront localization: Shopify warns that third-party apps may not support multiple languages by default (Shopify guidance on apps and languages).
- Confirm plan and usage conditions. Check feature eligibility, translation or AI usage limits, seats, stores, and conversation volumes against the current offer. Freshworks’ cited article says Pro or above; Zendesk documents plan conditions for some help-center multilingual support.
- Test real support messages with human reviewers. Use representative product terminology, delivery questions, refund requests, and locale-specific wording. The cited sources establish features and configuration, not translation accuracy in your business context.
- Check the whole customer journey in a trial or demonstration. Follow a customer from localized storefront to chat or email, then through an agent reply and self-service article. Confirm the customer sees the intended language at every handoff.
Why storefront localization and support localization must be checked separately
Translating a storefront does not guarantee that every third-party app used alongside it is localized. Shopify explicitly warns that an app may not support selling in multiple languages by default. Check each customer-facing app—including chat—alongside the support platform, then test the language a visitor actually sees in the storefront’s supported locales: Shopify’s app-language guidance.
