WordPress is another flexible option, though the exact mobile-building experience depends on the setup you choose.
“Mobile-friendly” can mean a site adapts automatically to smaller screens, an editor lets you make mobile-specific changes, or you can adjust layouts at separate device breakpoints. Those are different levels of control, so previewing the actual mobile editor matters as much as looking at templates.

Best mobile website builders at a glance
| Builder | Best fit | Mobile and design consideration | Commerce consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix | General-purpose sites and users seeking an approachable starting point | Wix publishes comparisons of mobile and responsive builders; confirm which mobile-specific edits are available in the current editor. | Compare the store tools and plan features against your catalog and order workflow. |
| Shopify | Businesses putting online sales at the center of the site | Assess the storefront on actual phone screens and check what theme and layout changes your plan supports. | Compare product, checkout, and order-management needs; Shopify’s 2026 comparison treats commerce needs as distinct from content-site needs. |
| Squarespace | Design-led sites, portfolios, and retail businesses | Use a trial or preview to check the mobile presentation and available layout adjustments. | Squarespace publishes an ecommerce and retail builder comparison; verify that the current plan supports the sales features you need. |
| Webflow | Users who want more visual control over responsive layouts | Check the breakpoint controls and the amount of layout work required to keep pages usable on phones. | Confirm that its current commerce capabilities fit your products and operations. |
| WordPress | Content-focused sites and projects needing flexibility | Mobile behavior can depend on the theme, editor, and plugins used; test the assembled site rather than assuming a uniform editor experience. | Commerce capabilities depend on the chosen setup, so compare the required tools and ongoing administration. |
This is a use-case shortlist, not a hands-on ranking. Shopify, Wix, and Squarespace publish comparisons in a category where they sell products, so treat their descriptions as vendor material. TechRadar published a 2026 editorial review that reports testing, but its testing was not reproduced for this guide.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Decide what “mobile-friendly” needs to mean
Start by separating three capabilities: automatic responsive behavior, mobile-specific editing, and control over independent breakpoints. A builder may make a page adapt without allowing you to change its mobile layout independently. If the phone experience is central to your business, check the editor and preview controls before committing.
#1 Best Overall
- HTML CSS Design and Build Web Sites
- Comes with secure packaging
- It can be a gift option
- Open representative pages in the builder’s mobile preview, including a long page, a navigation menu, and any key form or product page.
- Look for controls to adjust spacing, text size, image cropping, and element visibility on smaller screens.
- Check whether edits to one device layout affect other screen sizes or can be tailored by breakpoint.
- Test the published or trial site on a real phone; a preview alone does not establish how every interaction works.
Match control to your skills and time
A simple editor and polished starting design can reduce setup work, while more granular layout controls can require additional decisions and maintenance. Choose the least complex tool that gives you the mobile adjustments your site actually needs. A highly customizable builder is not automatically better if you do not want to manage responsive details.
For stores, assess operations as well as appearance
Compare product setup, checkout, order handling, and the other workflows your business relies on. A good-looking mobile template does not establish that the platform can support your catalog or day-to-day operations. Shopify and Squarespace both publish commerce-focused comparisons, but plan features and availability should be confirmed for your country and account.

Which builder fits each project?
Choose Wix for a general-purpose starting point
Wix is a candidate for a business, service, or informational site when you want a broad website-building option rather than a commerce-only decision. Wix publishes separate comparisons for mobile and responsive builders, useful for identifying features to check. Those vendor-authored pages are not independent tests, so verify the specific mobile editing controls in the current product.
Choose Shopify when selling is the main job
Shopify belongs on a store-first shortlist. Its 2026 builder comparison distinguishes ecommerce and content-site use cases and includes other platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, and Big Cartel. Make the choice based on whether the current store and order workflows fit your needs, then evaluate the mobile storefront separately.
Rank #3
Shopify reports that merchant UroTuning saw increases of 50% in both sales and conversion after moving to Shopify in an example published in 2026. That is a company-published case-study result, not a typical or promised outcome for other merchants.
Choose Squarespace for a design-led or retail site
Squarespace is a candidate when the visual presentation is a major priority and the site may also sell products. Its 2026 ecommerce and retail comparison can help identify features to investigate, but it does not establish that a particular template or plan is right for your project. Preview your own content on a phone and verify the sales tools you need.
Rank #4
Consider Webflow when responsive layout control matters
Webflow is a candidate for people who want more hands-on visual control over a responsive layout. That control may be useful when a template’s mobile arrangement is not enough, but it can also mean more work to configure and maintain. Check the actual breakpoint workflow and current commerce offering before choosing it for a store.
Consider WordPress for a flexible content site
WordPress appears in Shopify’s 2026 builder shortlist and may suit content-focused projects. Its mobile experience is not a single uniform feature: the theme, editor, and extensions in a particular setup affect what adapts automatically and what you can change. Review the complete setup you intend to use rather than judging WordPress by the platform name alone.

Current plan prices, regional availability, exact mobile editor limits, and feature inclusions were not consistently established in the available 2026 comparisons. Check the provider’s live plan and feature information for your country before choosing; do not compare headline prices without checking which features and recurring costs are included.
Quick Recap
- Confirm that the plan includes the sales, publishing, or hosting features your project needs.
- Check whether mobile editing and responsive controls are included in the plan or limited by edition.
- Review any platform or payment fees applicable to your region and sales setup.
- Test the mobile version of your real content, not just the builder’s sample template.
