For mobile websites, evaluate Percy’s separate mobile-browser workflow rather than assuming native-app coverage includes it. There is no independent head-to-head evidence here to establish a universal winner: the right choice depends on what you test, how you run automation, and how your team reviews visual changes.
What mobile visual testing checks
Mobile visual testing captures rendered app screens or web pages and compares them with approved baselines to flag appearance changes. It can reveal unintended differences in layout, typography, colors, or other visible details. It complements functional testing; a visual comparison does not establish that an interaction or workflow behaves correctly.
First distinguish the target: a native iOS or Android application, or a website displayed in a mobile browser. The tools and documented workflows differ.
How the leading options compare
| Tool or workflow | What the vendor documents | Useful fit | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Applitools Eyes | Visual checkpoints in Appium, Espresso, or XCUITest scripts; real or emulated iOS and Android coverage; comparison match levels and controls for regions expected to change. | Teams wanting to add visual checkpoints to an existing supported mobile automation suite. | Applitools describes integration with 50+ frameworks and tools and rendering across 100+ browser, viewport, and mobile-device combinations; these are vendor-stated figures, not independent measurements. Mobile testing support, mobile testing product page, and Eyes documentation. |
| BrowserStack App Percy for native apps | Native iOS and Android visual testing, with documented entry points including Appium, Espresso, Maestro, XCUITest, Storybook React Native, and Playwright. | Teams whose native-app framework is listed and who want a real-device testing workflow. | BrowserStack advertises 20,000+ real devices; this is a vendor claim, not independently verified. Confirm current framework and device availability in the App Percy documentation. |
| Percy for mobile browsers | A separate mobile-web workflow listing Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android (Beta), using real mobile devices. Screenshot width follows the device, and capture defaults to portrait orientation. | Teams checking mobile websites in the documented browser and platform combinations. | The reviewed documentation says this requires the Percy Desktop & Mobile plan. Browser support, beta status, access, and plan terms can change; check the mobile-browser workflow documentation for current details. |
These are product-documentation descriptions, not an independent comparison of speed, accuracy, reliability, or price. The available evidence does not establish a performance winner or current pricing comparison.

Choose by application, framework, and review workflow
Start with what you are testing
- Native app: Check that the tool supports your iOS or Android automation framework and the way you execute tests.
- Mobile website: Confirm the exact browser, operating system, device behavior, plan access, and any beta limitations in the mobile-browser workflow. Do not treat native-app support as evidence of mobile-browser support.
Check the device matrix you actually need
List required operating-system versions, screen sizes, and device types. Decide whether emulated coverage is sufficient or whether your release checks require real devices, and establish who operates the device grid. Vendor statements about the size of a device catalog do not by themselves prove that your specific models and OS versions are available.
Evaluate diffs and intentional changes
Ask how the product establishes and updates baselines, how reviewers inspect a failed comparison, and how the team marks dynamic or expected-to-change content. Applitools documents match levels and region handling for mobile testing. For either product, verify the review controls and approval flow against your team’s needs rather than assuming a feature name means the same workflow in practice.
Fit it into CI and change approval
Map the proposed checkpoints to your current test run, branch or commit review, and process for approving intentional visual updates. Confirm how failures reach the people who can assess them, and who is allowed to approve a changed baseline. The cited pages establish framework entry points but do not provide a neutral comparison of CI workflows.
Verify commercial access before choosing
Confirm current plan requirements, trial terms, usage limits, and pricing directly with each vendor. The documented mobile-browser Percy workflow specifies a Desktop & Mobile plan, but the available product pages do not establish a current price comparison or equivalent plan access for every workflow.

A practical evaluation process
- Define the target. Record whether you need native-app checks, mobile-web checks, or both, and name the required iOS and Android versions, browsers, and device sizes.
- Match your automation stack. Compare your existing framework with the integration entry points each vendor documents. Treat unsupported or unverified combinations as questions to resolve before adoption.
- Run representative screens. Choose screens with different layouts and include realistic dynamic content. Review whether the resulting comparisons are understandable and whether expected variation can be managed.
- Test the review path. Walk through a genuine intentional change and an unintended change. Confirm that reviewers can identify the changed region and that baseline updates follow your approval process.
- Check access and operating needs. Verify device availability, execution approach, plan requirements, limits, trial terms, and price with the vendor before estimating rollout cost.
- Choose based on evidence from your workflow. Prefer the product that fits your frameworks, required devices, and review process; do not infer a winner from vendor coverage figures alone.
ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for mobile website screenshots
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers, not a substitute for native-app visual regression tooling such as App Percy or Applitools Eyes. It is an option to try first when the need is capturing mobile-web pages or generating screenshots for a web-oriented workflow. It can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request, and its parameters match those used by other screenshot APIs to make switching easier.
For example, request a mobile viewport screenshot by adding viewport parameters as documented:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and supported request parameters. ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie or consent banners before capture and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of these steps can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with page-verdict and billing information in response headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients. Plans include 1,000 screenshots per month free without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. ScreenshotNeo offers 63 options, including viewport and device presets, full-page capture, element capture, wait conditions, and custom CSS or JavaScript; these website-capture features do not turn it into a native-app visual testing service.
