Best Low-Cost Cloud Setup for a 24/7 YouTube Live Channel in India

A low-cost 24/7 YouTube stream depends on more than VM price. Estimate bitrate-driven transfer for your region, test encoding performance, and weigh DIY maintenance against managed cloud streaming.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a do-it-yourself 24/7 YouTube channel, start with a cloud VM that sends an RTMPS feed to YouTube Live—but calculate its monthly data transfer before choosing the cheapest instance. A constant stream at YouTube’s recommended 720p settings can use close to 1 TB in 30 days, and AWS says Mumbai-region Lightsail bundles include only half the transfer allowance shown in its general pricing table. The VM’s advertised monthly price is therefore not enough to establish the total cost or whether it can encode your content continuously.

If you only need to loop prepared videos and would rather avoid VM setup and maintenance, StreamNeo is the managed alternative to consider first: it runs an uploaded-video stream from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with a free first day.

Choose the right kind of stream before choosing a VM

The lowest-cost setup depends partly on what you are sending to YouTube. A prepared video loop and a live camera or complex scene do not necessarily place the same workload on a virtual machine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Prepared video: The VM must read the source and send a continuous feed. Whether it can do this without re-encoding depends on the tools and configuration you use.
  • Live camera or composed scene: The VM must also capture and encode live input. Do not assume a low-cost, burstable instance can encode your particular scene continuously; test the actual workload.

AWS describes live streaming architectures that use an encoder to send a feed onward, and its FFmpeg example for Amazon IVS illustrates recorded-video streaming software. That IVS example is not a YouTube-specific setup guide. The YouTube settings below are the relevant basis for a YouTube Live feed.

Set YouTube’s output settings, then estimate the data

YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP and RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1. YouTube recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and RTMPS. Its published settings reviewed on October 3, 2026 give these bitrate recommendations:

Output Codec Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps AV1 or H.265 2 Mbps 6 Mbps
720p at 30 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps AV1 or H.265 not stated in the cited YouTube figures 10 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps H.264 not stated in the cited YouTube figures 14 Mbps

These are YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates, not a promise that a particular VM can encode at that rate. YouTube recommends testing with representative motion and audio and monitoring stream health. Its guidance says, “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.”

Thirty-day transfer planning

For a continuously sent feed, outgoing bitrate is the main driver of transfer volume. Using decimal units and assuming a constant bitrate for 30 days, the arithmetic is approximately:

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Constant outgoing bitrate Estimated transfer in 30 days
1 Mbps 324 GB
3 Mbps 972 GB
8 Mbps 2.592 TB

These are planning calculations, not published benchmarks. They exclude any traffic beyond the assumed stream and do not account for bitrate variation. Compare the estimate for your full outgoing stream with the allowance for the VM’s actual region before committing.

What the low-cost AWS Lightsail example does—and does not—show

AWS’s general public pricing table, checked on October 3, 2026, lists a Linux/Unix public-IPv4 Lightsail bundle at US$7 per month with 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 40 GB SSD and 2 TB of listed transfer. AWS states that bundles in the Mumbai region include half the transfer allowance shown in that general table, so this example has a 1 TB Mumbai allowance.

That leaves a constant 3 Mbps feed—about 972 GB over 30 days—close to the Mumbai allowance before overhead or other traffic. A constant 8 Mbps feed—about 2.592 TB—exceeds it. The advertised bundle price is not a complete cost estimate for every architecture; check the current AWS pricing and regional transfer terms before choosing a plan.

Nor does the bundle specification prove that the VM can encode your video continuously. AWS describes Lightsail CPU performance as burstable and points to EC2 for workloads needing consistently high CPU performance, including video encoding. The evidence does not establish that a particular Lightsail size can encode a particular scene without interruption.

Build and validate the DIY cloud setup

  1. Choose the workload. Decide whether the channel needs live camera or scene encoding, or only a prepared video loop. This determines what you must test on the VM.
  2. Pick YouTube output settings. Select resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder settings. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends.
  3. Choose the VM region and plan. Compare the expected monthly transfer with that region’s allowance. For Mumbai Lightsail, apply AWS’s half-allowance rule rather than relying on the general table figure.
  4. Configure the encoder to send to YouTube over RTMPS. Use the stream key from YouTube Live in your streaming software. Treat the key as a credential: keep it private and do not include it in public screenshots, logs or shared configuration.
  5. Run a representative test. Test the actual source, output settings, audio and motion on the selected instance. Check CPU and network usage, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before relying on the setup for continuous operation.
  6. Test recovery and monitoring. Confirm how your encoder behaves if the network connection or YouTube ingest drops. Decide who will monitor the VM, restart software and respond to a failed stream; do not assume that a low instance price includes managed recovery.

Compare total cost and responsibility, not just the VM price

Consideration DIY cloud VM Managed YouTube streaming
Monthly cost Include the VM, regional transfer allowance and any applicable overage or additional architecture costs; the public instance price alone is not a full estimate. Check the service’s current plan, billing period, storage terms and availability directly.
Encoding You administer the encoder. Sustained performance depends on the actual workload and VM; test before depending on it. Check whether the service plays uploaded videos or supports the live inputs you need.
Setup and maintenance You configure the VM, encoder, stream key, monitoring and recovery. A managed service can reduce VM administration, but confirm its features and terms.
Recovery You are responsible for reconnect behavior and monitoring unless you build or arrange otherwise. Verify the provider’s recovery behavior rather than assuming a particular uptime or reliability level.

AWS’s public Lightsail figures establish bundle specifications and a regional transfer rule, not guaranteed 24/7 uptime for a particular stream. Likewise, public vendor material is not independent evidence of comparative reliability or total cost. Evaluate the duties and charges that apply to your own channel.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube channel that loops prepared videos, StreamNeo avoids leaving a home computer or connection running: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs the loop from the cloud; it does not go live from a camera. Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers. You can pay for a day, a week, a month, six months or a year and cancel any time. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.

The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for the service details, then start your free day.

Check copyright and YouTube policy before looping content

Having a working encoder or cloud loop does not establish that you have the right to broadcast the video, music or other material in your playlist. Confirm that you own or are licensed to use every element, and review YouTube’s applicable live-stream rules and channel monetization policies before scheduling a continuous feed. A stream’s technical availability does not guarantee monetization or policy approval.
