There is no single best LiteLLM alternative for every enterprise. LiteLLM already offers an enterprise tier, while PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway (formerly Portkey) and Cloudflare AI Gateway emphasize different approaches to governance, deployment, routing, and security. The right shortlist depends on how you need to control data and credentials, administer users, route model traffic, enforce safeguards, and manage operating cost.
Does your enterprise need a LiteLLM alternative?
Not necessarily. LiteLLM’s official Enterprise documentation describes its open-source gateway as providing OpenAI-compatible access, virtual keys, spend tracking, budgets, fallbacks, and request/response logging. Its enterprise tier adds controls such as SSO/SCIM, OIDC/JWT, audit logs, role-based access control (RBAC), organization and team administration, secret-manager integration, key rotation, route controls, and multi-region deployment. Those capabilities may address a requirement that a team initially thought required switching products. LiteLLM Enterprise documentation

LiteLLM describes its OSS gateway as free to self-host. Its pricing page says Enterprise pricing is sales-based and depends on gateway request capacity, deployment architecture, and support needs; it also lists air-gapped deployment availability. The page does not publish a fixed Enterprise price, so request a quote based on your intended architecture and workload. LiteLLM pricing

LiteLLM vs. Portkey vs. Cloudflare AI Gateway
Portkey’s current official product name is PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway. The table summarizes vendor-documented capabilities, not independently verified outcomes. Confirm availability, deployment boundaries, and contract terms directly with each vendor.
| Option | Documented fit and capabilities | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| LiteLLM OSS and Enterprise | OSS: OpenAI-compatible gateway, virtual keys, spend tracking, budgets, fallbacks, and request/response logging. The documentation is a starting point, not proof that a particular isolation boundary, retention policy, or deployment option meets your requirements. During evaluation, ask which deployment models and controls are available to your organization, how they are implemented, and which commitments appear in the contract.
When Cloudflare AI Gateway may be the better fit
Cloudflare AI Gateway may be worth evaluating when its gateway functions align with your use of Cloudflare services. Its feature documentation lists routing, caching, spend controls, logging, analytics, authentication, and security functions, including guardrails and data-loss prevention. These are documented product capabilities, not evidence of independent performance comparisons. Cloudflare AI Gateway features

Understand the Access configuration
Cloudflare’s Access integration documentation says identity-aware control requires a custom domain and Cloudflare Access. With that setup, verified identity can be used to filter logs, analytics, and spend. Do not assume the default gateway endpoint receives this protection: the documentation says it is not protected by Access. Cloudflare Access integration
Check guardrails against streaming requirements
Cloudflare’s documented guardrail behavior differs by request path. On gateway endpoints, responses are buffered for evaluation and returned as non-streamed payloads. On the REST API path, evaluation is logged but is not enforced on the returned streaming response. If your application needs both streaming and enforced guardrails, test the exact path and behavior against your design before choosing the gateway. Cloudflare Guardrails usage

How to choose an enterprise LLM gateway
Compare candidates against the same requirements and representative traffic. A feature checkbox alone will not resolve differences in architecture, policy enforcement, or operating effort.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Set deployment and data boundaries. Decide whether you require self-hosting, private cloud, air-gapped deployment, or a managed service. Establish where prompts and provider credentials are processed and which deployment options are contractually available.
- Specify identity and governance. Record required SSO, SCIM, role boundaries, auditability, team or project separation, budgets, and rate limits. Verify what applies to your edition and how administrators configure it.
- Map routing and resilience needs. List the model/provider coverage, fallbacks, retries, load balancing, routing policies, and client compatibility your services depend on. Test failure and fallback behavior with your own integrations.
- Define observability and retention. Check request logs, analytics, retention controls, export options, and whether usage can be attributed to teams or users. Confirm what data is recorded and who can access it.
- Test safety behavior in the actual request flow. Determine whether guardrails and data-loss prevention block or merely log a result, and whether they alter streaming, response handling, or latency. Validate the precise endpoint and configuration.
- Estimate total cost and operating load. Include license or usage terms, infrastructure, observability storage, and engineering and on-call effort. Ask each vendor for a quote and assess representative traffic; public product pages do not establish comparable total cost.
- Run a focused pilot and review the contract. Use the same workload and acceptance criteria across shortlisted options. Validate security boundaries, availability, support, retention, and deployment commitments before procurement.
What a fair comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The available vendor documentation supports a practical shortlist, not a universal ranking. It does not establish an independent cross-vendor benchmark, comparative customer outcomes, or which gateway will be fastest, cheapest, or most reliable for your workload. Treat product pages as statements of documented capabilities, then verify important behavior in a pilot and contractual review.
