The best lavalier microphone for live streaming is the one your phone, computer, camera, or wireless receiver can actually use. For a compatible 3.5 mm TRS input, consider the RØDE Lavalier GO; for a direct USB-C connection, consider the Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C; and if you need to move without a cable to the device, look at a wireless system such as DJI Mic 2. Check the complete connection path before buying—plug shape alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Start with your streaming device and input
“Lavalier” describes a small clip-on microphone, not a universal connector. Before choosing a model, identify the input your streaming setup will use: the phone or computer itself, a camera, or a wireless receiver connected to the device. A microphone that fits one of those paths may need a cable, adapter, receiver, or software setting to work in another.

- Phone: Check whether it accepts USB-C audio, has a 3.5 mm microphone input, or needs an audio adapter. A USB-C port does not by itself guarantee that every microphone and app will work with the phone.
- Computer: Find out whether you will connect through USB-C, a 3.5 mm microphone input, or a wireless receiver. Confirm the selected microphone in both the operating system and streaming software.
- Camera or recorder: Check the microphone input and whether it expects a TRS connection. A connector that physically fits may still have the wrong wiring or locking mechanism.
- Wireless kit: Check the transmitter’s lavalier input and the receiver’s connection to your streaming device. The receiver is part of the audio path, not an optional detail.
Choose wired or wireless
Choose wired when a cable is practical
A wired lavalier has a direct cable to the device or transmitter. It avoids the need to connect a separate receiver to the streaming device, but cable length and routing can limit movement. For a phone or computer with a compatible USB-C audio input, the Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C is a straightforward example; for a compatible 3.5 mm TRS microphone input or Wireless GO transmitter, the RØDE Lavalier GO is another.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose a wireless system when you need room to move
A wireless setup sends audio from a transmitter worn by the speaker to a receiver connected to the streaming device. Check how the receiver connects to your specific phone or computer, and select it as the input in the software. DJI Mic 2 is a wireless-system option marketed for livestreaming, but it is not a like-for-like standalone lavalier capsule.

RØDE Lavalier GO: for compatible 3.5 mm TRS inputs
The Lavalier GO is a wired, omnidirectional microphone with a 3.5 mm TRS connector. RØDE describes it for Wireless GO transmitters and other devices with a compatible 3.5 mm TRS microphone input. That makes it a sensible match when your input path is confirmed to accept that connection. It is not automatically compatible with every phone or 3.5 mm socket. See RØDE Lavalier GO specifications.

DJI Mic 2: a wireless-system option
DJI describes Mic 2 for livestreaming and provides computer connection instructions. The relevant choice is the full transmitter-and-receiver setup and its connection to your streaming device, rather than a bare lavalier capsule. On a computer, DJI’s instructions say to set “Wireless Microphone RX” as the system microphone input and as the input in the streaming or conference software. Follow the instructions for your specific receiver connection. See DJI Mic 2 and DJI’s computer connection and input-selection guidance.
Check adapters and connectors before you order
TRS and TRRS plugs can look similar but serve different wiring arrangements. RØDE explains that many of its 3.5 mm camera microphones come with TRS-to-TRS cabling for cameras or recorders, while mobile devices may need a TRRS-to-TRS cable. A phone without a 3.5 mm input may also need the appropriate USB-C or Lightning audio adapter. RØDE names its SC4 and SC7 among supported cables; check the cable and adapter guidance for your microphone and phone rather than assuming any adapter will work. Read RØDE’s mobile-device connectivity guidance.

Moreover, it can also with laptop and tablet, which is convenient for content creators to make recordings with various devices for podcasting, vlogging, live streaming and interviewing
- Longer Receiver: The interface of the receiver for the mini microphone has been upgraded to be longer for phone connection. Compared with other professional wireless microphones, this one has the advantage of using together with most of the phone cases. In other words, for youtube or tiktok influencers or online celebrities on different social media platforms, they don’t have to take off the phone case before filming or online teaching, video conference
- Easy Automatic Connection: This wireless lapel microphone is much easier to set. No adapter or application needed. Just choose the right adapter and get it into your device, then turn on the lav mic, you will see there is a solid green light on both of the receiver and the mic, which means the two parts are connected successfully. Then you can start audio/video recording
- Omnidirectional Pick Up & Crystal Clear Sound: Equipped with microphone windscreen and noise reduction chip, our wireless mic on the one hand can clearly records every detail of the sound regardless of surrounded environment. On the other hand, it helps to cuts off noise interference while recording so as to deliver high quality audio and ensure you a better sound experience

- Write down the exact device model and the app you will stream with.
- Identify the intended mic input: TRS, TRRS, USB-C, or a receiver connection.
- For a wireless setup, check both transmitter-to-mic and receiver-to-device compatibility.
- For a 3.5 mm microphone on a phone, check whether a TRRS-to-TRS cable and the correct USB-C or Lightning audio adapter are needed.
- Consider whether the included clip and windscreen suit your placement and environment; accessory kits differ by model.
Set up and check the audio path before going live
- Connect the microphone using the compatible cable or adapter. For a wireless system, connect its receiver to the streaming device using the method specified for that receiver.
- Select the input in the device settings. If you are using DJI Mic with a computer, DJI’s documented workflow is to choose “Wireless Microphone RX” as the system microphone input.
- Select the same input in the streaming app. A correct device-level input does not ensure that the app is using it. For DJI’s computer workflow, set “Wireless Microphone RX” in the streaming or conference software too.
- Make a test recording or private test stream. Speak at your normal distance and check that the intended microphone—not a built-in phone, camera, or computer mic—is capturing sound.
- Check clothing noise and wind. Secure the clip so the capsule does not rub against fabric, and use the included windscreen where appropriate. Recheck levels and placement after moving.
Common compatibility problems
- The plug fits, but the device records no sound: The plug wiring or adapter may be wrong, or the device may not accept that microphone input. Verify TRS versus TRRS requirements and use the appropriate mobile audio adapter.
- The phone uses its built-in microphone: Confirm that the phone and livestream app recognize the connected USB-C microphone or receiver, then select it in the app if an input choice is available.
- The computer receives no wireless audio: Check the receiver’s connection and select the receiver as both the operating-system input and the streaming-software input. For DJI Mic, DJI specifies “Wireless Microphone RX.”
- A locking connector does not seat or lock: The receiving jack may not support that connector mechanically. Confirm fit as well as electrical compatibility before using the Lavalier II with another device.
- Audio is muffled, rustling, or wind-affected: Reposition and secure the capsule, keep it from rubbing on clothing, and try the supplied windscreen when wind is a factor.
Copyright and the rest of your livestream setup
A microphone choice solves the audio-input question; it does not grant rights to music, video, or other material included in a stream. Before broadcasting recorded material, check that you have the necessary rights and review the platform’s current rules for copyright and reused content. Also confirm that your audio source is the one you intend to broadcast before starting a public stream.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your livestream uses uploaded, pre-recorded video rather than a live camera and microphone, StreamNeo is a separate way to keep a YouTube channel live: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo sends video to YouTube, not audio from a live microphone.
