Start by defining your customers, jurisdictions, regulatory obligations, and existing systems; then shortlist vendors against those needs. The provider lists below are starting points from secondary comparisons, not results of a uniform, independent product test.
What KYC software does—and what the label can hide
Know Your Customer (KYC) is a set of customer due-diligence activities, not one software function. A product that checks an identity document may support one part of onboarding without supplying screening, ongoing monitoring, or the records your compliance process needs.

Identity verification
Identity-verification tools may check identity documents, compare a face with a document image, assess biometric liveness, or use electronic identity sources. Coverage and available methods vary by country and customer type. A general identity check is not, by itself, proof that an organization has completed every required KYC step.
AML and watchlist screening
Anti-money-laundering (AML) functions can include sanctions and politically exposed person (PEP) screening, as well as screening workflows or ongoing monitoring. Do not assume these are included in an identity-verification product or plan; confirm which checks are native, which are supplied by partners, and what is an add-on.

Business verification, case management, and orchestration
Know Your Business (KYB) checks concern business customers and related parties. Compliance case management helps reviewers investigate, record decisions, and retain evidence. Orchestration routes checks across services or data sources. A vendor may focus on one of these layers rather than provide every check directly, so identify what the vendor actually supplies and what depends on integrations.
Define your requirements before comparing vendors
Write down the workflows the software must support before requesting demos. A shortlist built around your actual customer mix is more useful than one based on a broad “best” ranking.

Map the regulated use case and customer types
- List the jurisdictions where you onboard or serve customers, and where the relevant entity is regulated.
- Separate individual customers from businesses, beneficial owners, and other parties you need to verify.
- Describe when checks happen: at signup, before a transaction, during periodic reviews, or when a risk event occurs.
- Confirm the applicable obligations with qualified compliance advice for each jurisdiction. A vendor selection or automated check alone does not establish compliance.
Inventory systems and review operations
- Document your onboarding platform, customer database, case-management tools, and any existing screening providers.
- Decide which team reviews exceptions and what information reviewers need to make and record decisions.
- Set requirements for evidence retention, access controls, exports, audit records, and manual fallback when an automated check cannot complete.
Which providers appear in 2026 comparisons?
Recent comparison articles name a varied field of providers. Their lists can help generate candidates, but they do not establish that every named company offers the same product category or covers the same capabilities.

It is not a uniform independent test. |
| Authenticate Blog, updated 8 September 2026 | Alloy, AU10TIX, Authenticate, ComplyAdvantage, Jumio, Onfido, Persona, Sumsub, Trulioo, and Veriff. | Highlights that providers have different roles, including identity checks, screening, and orchestration. The list is not evidence that each vendor supplies all those functions. |
| Authologic, updated 27 August 2026 | Authologic, Hopae, Persona, Shufti, Signicat, Socure, Trinsic, Trulioo, and Veriff. | Frames comparison around authoritative-source identity checks, sanctions and PEP screening, source-of-funds evidence, and auditable methods; it does not establish that every provider covers every dimension. |

Compare candidates on the work they must do
Use the same requirements for each vendor. Ask for written, dated answers tied to your countries, customer types, and expected workflow rather than relying on a generic coverage statement.
| Evaluation area | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Provider role and included services | Does the vendor perform identity proofing, KYB, AML or watchlist screening, case management, or orchestration? Which functions are native, provided by partners, or separately licensed? |
| Country and evidence coverage | Which countries and document types are supported for your customers? Which authoritative data sources and local identity methods are used? What happens when a customer has an unsupported document? |
| Verification methods | Can the workflow use document-authenticity checks, face matching, liveness, electronic identity sources, and manual review? Request test evidence for your own representative cases; published comparisons did not establish comparable pass rates or accuracy. |
| Screening and lifecycle | Are sanctions and PEP screening included? Can the system support source-of-funds evidence where relevant, rescreening, and ongoing monitoring? What triggers a new review, and how are changes surfaced? |
| Operations and auditability | Can reviewers see reason codes, evidence, overrides, and decision history? Can you control reviewer access, retain records for the required period, and export case data? |
| Integration and resilience | Are the needed APIs or SDKs available for your stack? How do webhooks, exports, retries, outages, and manual fallbacks work? What implementation work is required from your team? |
| Commercial terms | Is billing per check, subscription-based, or a combination? Clarify minimums, retries, manual-review fees, screening add-ons, geography-based charges, volume tiers, and contract commitments. |
Run a procurement process that exposes gaps
- Send vendors the same use-case brief. Include customer types, target jurisdictions, expected volumes, required checks, existing systems, review procedures, and retention needs.
- Request a workflow demonstration using representative scenarios. Include successful checks, failed or inconclusive checks, unsupported documents, and cases that need human review. A polished happy-path demo cannot show how exceptions are handled.
- Ask for dated, region-specific evidence. Request coverage documentation, supported document and data-source details, and measured outcomes relevant to your customer mix. Do not treat an undated global claim as confirmation for your particular market.
- Inspect reviewer controls and audit records. Have the vendor show reason codes, override records, evidence access, retention settings, and an exported case record. Confirm that these fit your internal process.
- Validate integration and failure handling. Review API or SDK documentation, webhook behavior, data export, retry logic, implementation responsibilities, and the manual process used when a check or service is unavailable.
- Get the full commercial proposal in writing. Price your expected mix of checks, retries, manual reviews, screening, geography, minimums, and renewal or termination commitments. Current prices were not established on a comparable basis in the available 2026 comparisons.
- Have compliance and technical owners approve the fit. Confirm that the selected workflow maps to applicable obligations and that engineering, operations, security, and records-management requirements are met before deployment.
How geography affects the decision
Jurisdiction affects both what evidence can be checked and what procedures an organization may need. A provider’s coverage in one country does not establish coverage elsewhere, and an automated identity result does not prove that every local due-diligence requirement has been met.
Authologic’s 27 August 2026 comparison says Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 applies from 10 July 2027 and describes its customer due-diligence requirements as directly applicable across EU member states. That is a secondary-source summary, not a jurisdiction-specific legal assessment. Confirm the regulation’s scope, transitional details, and implications for your organization with official materials and qualified counsel before relying on it.
What the available comparisons cannot tell you
The 2026 articles are useful for discovering providers and evaluation dimensions, but they do not provide a consistent primary-source basis for ranking products by accuracy, false-rejection rates, security certifications, customer outcomes, current pricing, or performance across regions. No comparable independent product test is established here. Request current vendor documentation and test the workflow on an appropriate sample before making a decision.
Best Value
Software can support controls; it cannot make an organization compliant simply by being purchased. The appropriate configuration depends on the organization’s activities, customers, and applicable rules, so validate the program with qualified compliance advice for the relevant jurisdictions.
