If the problem is that the letters on the iPhone’s onscreen keyboard are hard to make out, the best starting point is already on your phone. Turn off Show Lowercase Keys so the keys display capital letters, and rotate to landscape, which gives many apps a larger keyboard. Neither step requires buying anything. A Bluetooth keyboard does not enlarge the onscreen keys. It gives you physical keys and keyboard navigation, so it solves a different problem: typing without relying on the touchscreen, or moving around the iPhone with a keyboard.
Because Apple and Logitech document setup and compatibility rather than how readable any keyboard’s keys are, this guide does not name a single best model. It explains which adjustments change visibility, which ones only change screen layout, and when a physical keyboard is worth considering.

| What you are struggling with | What helps | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Reading the letters on the onscreen keys | Turn off Show Lowercase Keys; rotate to landscape in a supported app | Does not change the font or contrast of the keys themselves |
| Reading text and interface elements across the whole screen | Larger Text, Bold Text, Larger Accessibility Sizes, Display Zoom, Show Borders, or color adjustments | Does not change the keyboard layout |
| Seeing what you type when the keyboard covers the screen | Zoom with Follow Focus or Smart Typing | Magnifies the view rather than redrawing the keys |
| Typing with physical keys or navigating without touch | A compatible external Bluetooth keyboard, with Full Keyboard Access if you need keyboard navigation | Does not enlarge the onscreen keyboard |
Make the onscreen keyboard easier to read
Turn off Show Lowercase Keys
This setting changes which letters appear on the keys. With it off, the keys display uppercase letters, which some readers find easier to distinguish.

Check the result by opening Notes and switching to the keyboard. The keys should now show capitals, while the text you type still follows your normal capitalization rules.
Rotate to landscape for a larger keyboard
Apple’s accessibility guidance says that rotating the iPhone to landscape can give you a larger onscreen keyboard in many apps, and names Mail, Messages, Notes, and Safari as examples. Apps that do not change their layout in landscape will keep the portrait keyboard, so test the apps you use most. Holding the phone sideways is also the only way to get a larger keyboard without changing any settings.
Make the rest of the screen easier to see
Keyboard visibility and overall screen visibility are separate problems. If the text in your apps is hard to read, Apple documents these options under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size:

- Can't Connect the Bluetooth? Please reset the keyboard and then reconnect the Bluetooth: 1. Turn on the keyboarad; 2. Press and hold the first and the last key at the top row of the keyboard until all indicators start flashing; 3. Bluetooth light flickers quickly, auto entering Bluetooth pairing mode (If not, press Fn + 1 or 2); 4. Search and find "Wireless keyboard".
- Multi-OS Compatible: The keyboard is widely compatible with Android, Windows and iOS devices. Also the basic typing function works with other OS devices such as fire tablets.
- Connect 2 Devices: Seamless switching between 2 Bluetooth devices (iOS/Android/Windows) with single-tap transitions (Fn+"1"/ "2").
- Orange Keys for Productivity Boost: The color-coded design help you to position the keys effortlessly and reduce mistyping. The orange keys are more visible than standard keys, engineered for speed typists.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: Only 6oz weight and slim 0.6in profile fits in most handbags. The flexible hinge allows you to fold it up for travel – perfect for coffee shops, flights, or campus life.
- Larger Text: increases the size of text in apps that support Dynamic Type, including Larger Accessibility Sizes.
- Bold Text: thickens text across the interface.
- Display Zoom: makes the whole screen’s elements larger, at the cost of showing less content at once.
- Show Borders: adds outlines to buttons and controls, which can help you find them.
These settings adjust the screen generally. They do not change how the keyboard is laid out, so use them alongside the keyboard steps above rather than instead of them.
Magnify what you type
Zoom magnifies part or all of the screen. It is useful when the keyboard and the text you are writing are both small to you.
- Open Settings and tap Accessibility, then tap Zoom.
- Turn on Zoom, then choose Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom.
- Turn on Follow Focus so the magnified area moves with the insertion point or the item you are working on.
- Turn on Smart Typing if you want the view to switch to Window Zoom when a keyboard appears.
Expect a trade-off. Magnification shows less of the screen at once, so Window Zoom is usually easier to live with for typing than Full Screen Zoom. Test a few minutes in your usual app before deciding.

Where a physical keyboard fits
An external keyboard connected over Bluetooth gives you physical keys. It can be useful if you find the touchscreen keyboard hard to use, or if you want to type with fewer touches. It is not a way to make the onscreen keys larger. Apple’s support documents describe how to connect a keyboard and navigate with it; they do not establish that any particular keyboard’s keys are easier to see.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse Full Keyboard Access to navigate with a keyboard
Full Keyboard Access lets you move around the iPhone with a connected keyboard, rather than only typing into fields. Apple documents customizable keyboard commands and options for the focus highlight, including its color, contrast, and size.
- Connect the keyboard first, as described below.
- Open Settings and tap Accessibility, then tap Keyboards & Typing.
- Tap Full Keyboard Access and turn it on.
- Adjust the focus highlight and commands there if the default highlight is hard to see.

Check before you buy a physical keyboard
- Confirm the connection method is Bluetooth and that the current listing says it works with iPhone and iOS.
- Check the key layout and spacing, since these decide how comfortable it is for your hands and eyes.
- Decide whether you need physical typing, keyboard navigation, or both. Full Keyboard Access is for navigation, not just typing.
- Consider portability if you will carry it, since it has to pair with the phone wherever you use it.
- If key size or key legibility matters most, try the keyboard in person before buying.
What the evidence does and does not establish
The Apple and Logitech pages behind this guide cover settings, navigation, and pairing. They do not measure key size, key contrast, or legibility across keyboard models, and they do not provide statistics on how many people find any option easier to read. For that reason this article does not rank external keyboards by how visible their keys are. The sources used are:
