The JBL PartyBox Club 120 is the closest party-focused option, with dual microphone and guitar inputs, lighting and a replaceable-battery option. For easier shoulder-strap carry and an IP67 rating, consider the JBL Xtreme 4; for an IP68 rating, consider the JBL Boombox 4. These products are not interchangeable, and the available specifications do not establish which sounds louder or better in a direct comparison.
What the Encore Essential 2 offers as a baseline
JBL lists the PartyBox Encore Essential 2 at 100 W RMS and 6.2 kg, with a 34 Wh lithium-ion battery, Bluetooth 5.4, a 3.5 mm auxiliary input, and microphone and guitar inputs. Its listed frequency response is 40 Hz–20 kHz (-6 dB). JBL also advertises party lighting and an IPX4 splash-proof design. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. JBL’s listing does not establish a dependable playback-time figure for this model, so a runtime comparison is not possible from the published information cited here. Compare the alternatives
| Model | What JBL’s published information supports | Tradeoff or limit |
|---|---|---|
| JBL PartyBox Club 120 | 160 W RMS, dual microphone and guitar inputs, party lighting, IPX4 splash protection, and up to 12 hours of playback. A spare replaceable battery is sold separately. JBL/HARMAN’s specification sheet lists a weight of 11.05 kg. | At 11.05 kg, it is substantially heavier than the Encore Essential 2’s listed 6.2 kg. The stated maximum playback time varies with volume and audio content; it is not a guarantee at party volume. IPX4 is splash protection, not protection against immersion. JBL/HARMAN Club 120 specification sheet |
| JBL Xtreme 4 | IP67 rating, shoulder strap and manufacturer-stated playback of up to 24 hours. | It is a portable-speaker alternative rather than a like-for-like party-box replacement. JBL lists different output depending on whether it is powered by AC or its battery. The cited product information does not establish dedicated party-box karaoke or lighting features. |
| JBL Boombox 4 | JBL states an IP68 water- and dust-resistance rating and lists separate AC and battery output modes. | The cited official information does not establish its weight, playback time or comparative listening performance, so those cannot be reliably compared here. |
The figures above come from JBL’s product pages or, for the Club 120, JBL/HARMAN’s specification sheet. The available sources do not provide controlled, same-method loudness or sound-quality tests across the models. RMS wattage alone cannot establish which speaker will sound louder in a particular outdoor setting.
Choose by the conditions at your party
Pick the Club 120 for party features and connections
Choose the Club 120 if you expect to use microphones or a guitar, want party lighting, and value its replaceable-battery option. Its listed 160 W RMS output is higher than the Encore Essential 2’s 100 W RMS, but that specification is not a direct loudness comparison. The weight difference matters if you will carry it far: the Club 120 is listed at 11.05 kg, compared with 6.2 kg for the Encore Essential 2.

Pick the Xtreme 4 for strap carry and a higher protection rating
The Xtreme 4’s shoulder strap and IP67 rating suit a different priority: carrying a portable speaker around an outdoor gathering and choosing a model with a higher stated water-and-dust protection class. JBL’s “up to 24 hours” figure is a maximum manufacturer claim, not a promise of that duration under every listening condition. Do not assume it offers the Club 120’s party-box features based on the information cited here.
Consider the Boombox 4 when IP68 is the deciding factor
If the stated IP68 rating is your main reason for choosing, the Boombox 4 is worth considering. The cited listing also gives distinct output ratings for AC and battery operation, so check the official product details for the mode relevant to your use. The cited material does not establish its weight or runtime, which makes it difficult to judge for a carry-focused or long-duration event.

Understand the water-resistance ratings
IP ratings describe defined protection classes; they are not interchangeable guarantees that a speaker can withstand every outdoor hazard. JBL describes the Encore Essential 2 and Club 120 as IPX4 splash-proof. JBL describes the Xtreme 4 as IP67 and the Boombox 4 as IP68, with the latter also stated to resist dust. Do not treat an IPX4 speaker as waterproof or suitable for immersion, and check the manufacturer’s guidance for the specific rating before placing any speaker near water.

JBL describes the Club 120 as “IPX4 splashproof” for settings such as a park or seaside gathering, adding that “a little rain won’t stop the fun.” That wording refers to splash protection; it does not make the speaker immersion-proof. JBL PartyBox Club 120 product information

A quick decision checklist
- Need microphone or guitar inputs and party lighting? The Club 120 is the clearest alternative supported by the listed features.
- Need a strap and a stated IP67 rating? Consider the Xtreme 4, recognizing that it is a different category of speaker.
- Is an IP68 rating the deciding feature? Consider the Boombox 4, but do not infer unlisted weight or runtime.
- Will you carry the speaker a long distance? Compare the Club 120’s 11.05 kg listed weight with the Encore Essential 2’s 6.2 kg; the cited evidence does not establish weights for the other two alternatives.
- Are you comparing volume or sound quality? Look for independent, controlled comparisons; the manufacturer specifications cited here do not settle that question.
