1. Microsoft Copilot Studio IT Helpdesk: for a ServiceNow knowledge-based agent
Microsoft’s IT Helpdesk template is aimed at organizations that want to build an internal conversational agent using their ServiceNow knowledge base. The documented support path is practical: an employee asks a troubleshooting question, the agent uses organizational ServiceNow knowledge articles, and when it cannot answer it can create a ServiceNow ticket. Employees can then inspect ticket details and status.

What it does well
- Grounds troubleshooting answers in the organization’s ServiceNow knowledge content rather than relying only on a generic chat experience.
- Connects unanswered questions to ticket creation and follow-up, bridging self-service and the service desk.
- Uses Copilot Studio, allowing an organization to prototype and customize an internal agent.
Requirements and limits
The documented template requires Copilot Studio maker licensing and message capacity, as well as a ServiceNow connection with the knowledge-base plugin. Microsoft says managed agents and templates are English-only and should be limited to internal use. Its documentation also warns that AI-generated content can be mistaken, so the agent should not be treated as an authority for high-impact fixes without appropriate review and safeguards. A reliable deployment also depends on the accuracy and maintenance of the underlying ServiceNow articles.
Best fit
Consider it when ServiceNow is already the source of truth for support knowledge and tickets, and the goal is a customizable employee-facing agent. It is a less direct fit if the organization expects an out-of-the-box chatbot spanning unrelated ITSM systems.
2. ServiceNow Virtual Agent and EmployeeWorks: for employee service in ServiceNow
ServiceNow Virtual Agent provides a conversational interface for employee support. ServiceNow documents Microsoft Teams and Slack as optional channels. EmployeeWorks is positioned as a conversational front door that combines search with actions across workflows, extending the idea beyond a conventional FAQ bot.
Capability and availability distinctions
Virtual Agent and EmployeeWorks should not be treated as interchangeable labels for one identical feature set. ServiceNow’s March 2026 release announcement described EmployeeWorks as generally available, while its Level 1 Service Desk AI Specialist was then in controlled availability with planned general availability in Q2 2026. That announcement does not establish the specialist’s current status as of October 2026; organizations considering it should confirm availability and eligibility with ServiceNow.
ServiceNow’s product page also reports a 50% reduction in live-agent chats in 30 days. That is a ServiceNow-published vendor claim, not a comparable independent result; the cited material does not establish a common measurement method for comparison with other vendors’ figures.
Best fit
ServiceNow customers looking to put employee support on top of existing workflows are the clearest audience. Before choosing a specific ServiceNow capability, distinguish what is available in the organization’s current deployment from newer AI specialist functionality, and confirm supported channels and permissions for the workflows employees will use.
3. Moveworks AI Assistant and Service Management: for cross-system employee support
Moveworks documents an employee-facing assistant and service-management capabilities that go beyond answering questions. Its documented functions include creating and looking up tickets, checking status, collecting information through forms, triaging tickets, mirroring approvals, and handing a conversation to a human while preserving its context. Its product information describes access through Slack, Teams, web, and mobile, along with ITSM integrations.

What to evaluate
This breadth makes Moveworks relevant to enterprises seeking a single employee-facing front door over an existing ITSM stack or multiple systems. The important procurement question is which systems and actions will actually be connected and enabled in the organization’s instance. Confirm permissions, approval rules, and what context reaches a human agent at handoff; a capability listed in product documentation is not proof that every action is configured in a particular deployment.
Vendor-published customer examples
- Moveworks reports that 95% of password resets were automated at Achieve.
- It reports a seven-second average time to fully resolve a support issue at Nutanix.
- It reports 96% accuracy in routing IT issues to the right experts at Equinix.
Moveworks does not state a year on the cited page for these examples. They are vendor-published customer figures, and the cited material does not supply a consistent denominator, use-case scope, or measurement method for comparing them with other products.
Best fit
Evaluate it when employees need support across several systems or channels and the organization wants ticketing, routing, approvals, and contextual human handoff alongside knowledge answers.
4. Freshservice Freddy AI Agent: for a Freshservice-centered service desk
Freshworks describes Freddy AI Agent as handling employee requests end to end across Microsoft Teams, Slack, and service portals. The same Freshservice AI offering includes ticket triage, knowledge creation, summarization, and insights, making it a candidate for teams that want the assistant and service-desk operations within one Freshservice environment.

Reported outcome and qualification
Freshworks reports that Freddy AI Agents deflect 66% of incoming tickets. This is a Freshworks-published figure; the cited page does not provide an independent, directly comparable test methodology. The cited information also does not establish current packaging or price, so the buyer should distinguish included functionality from any plan, usage, or add-on requirements in a quote.
Best fit
Freshservice users seeking an employee-facing request agent alongside service-desk capabilities such as triage and knowledge workflows are the natural audience. Its documented channels are Teams, Slack, and service portals; do not assume other channels are included on the strength of this information.
5. Jira Service Management Virtual Service Agent: for Atlassian knowledge and request flows
Jira Service Management’s Virtual Service Agent supports two documented self-service patterns: AI answers based on linked knowledge, and configured intents with conversation flows. It can gather information, route requests, take configured actions, and offer escalation to a human when a request is unresolved. Its usefulness therefore depends on both the quality of linked knowledge and how administrators configure intents and actions.

- Rotating Noise-Canceling Mic: Minimizes unwanted background noise for clear conversations; the rotating boom arm can be tucked out of the way when not in use

Eligibility and limits
Atlassian documentation lists Service Collection Premium or Enterprise and administrator activation of AI as prerequisites. The feature is unavailable in Atlassian Government environments. Confirm that the organization’s plan and environment are eligible before designing around the assistant.
Best fit
It is a natural shortlist option for teams already using Jira Service Management and Atlassian knowledge content that want guided self-service through a portal or supported channel. It is not a stack-neutral recommendation: the documented answer path is tied to linked Atlassian knowledge and configured Jira Service Management workflows.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose an IT help desk chatbot
1. Start with approved knowledge
List the knowledge sources the chatbot can search, who owns them, and how often they are updated. Microsoft’s documented template relies on organizational ServiceNow articles; Atlassian’s AI answers rely on linked knowledge-base spaces. Moveworks also presents knowledge retrieval as a core route to support. If key articles are stale, incomplete, or contradictory, a fluent answer can still be wrong.
2. Define the actions employees should be able to complete
Separate information retrieval from workflow execution. Decide whether employees need only answers, guided intake, ticket creation, ticket-status lookup, approvals, or system actions. Then confirm which actions are actually enabled and governed in the buyer’s configuration. A chatbot that can answer a question is not automatically able to perform the fix or update the service record.
3. Match the incumbent service desk, identity, and catalog
Check integration with the existing ITSM platform, identity provider, endpoint tools, and service catalog. Microsoft’s template is ServiceNow-connected; Moveworks describes integrations across multiple ITSM systems. For every proposed action, establish how identity and permissions are checked and what appears in the audit trail.

4. Confirm employee access channels
Map the surfaces employees actually use: Teams, Slack, service portal, browser, or mobile. ServiceNow documents Teams and Slack as optional Virtual Agent channels; Moveworks describes Slack, Teams, web, and mobile; Freshservice documents Teams, Slack, and service portals. Confirm whether each channel is available in the proposed package and what configuration it requires.
5. Review escalation and safety controls
Ask for a demonstration of handoff to a human, including whether the conversation history and collected details carry over. Review permission checks, approval gates, audit logs, and rollback options for actions that change accounts or systems. Microsoft explicitly cautions that generated content can be wrong; human escalation and controlled actions are therefore part of product fit, not optional polish.

- Rotating Noise Canceling Mic: Minimizes unwanted background noise for clear conversations; the rotating boom arm can be tucked out of the way when you’re not using it

6. Check eligibility and total operating cost
Confirm plan requirements, AI activation, supported language, government or regulated-environment eligibility, data controls, implementation work, connector costs, and usage or message allowances. Microsoft’s template has licensing and message-capacity requirements; Atlassian lists plan and AI-activation requirements and excludes Government environments. Comparable total pricing was not established for the products here, so obtain a deployment-specific quote rather than infer a cost from feature descriptions.
How to compare vendors in a pilot
Run the same representative cases in each candidate’s test environment rather than comparing headline vendor percentages. Include a password or account-access issue, a software request, VPN or network troubleshooting, a knowledge question, ticket creation and status lookup, and an escalation to a person. Use approved test accounts and define in advance which system changes are allowed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Resolution correctness: Was the answer accurate and grounded in approved knowledge?
- Safe action completion: Did the chatbot complete only authorized steps and respect approval requirements?
- Handoff quality: Did the human receive the conversation and relevant details without making the employee start over?
- Employee effort: How many clarifications or repeated details did the interaction require?
- Time and cost: Measure time to resolution and cost per resolved request using the same scope and accounting method across candidates.
For any claimed return on investment, request the deployment scope, denominator, measurement period, excluded cases, and independent validation. Vendor outcome examples can help identify questions to ask, but they are not a substitute for a controlled comparison in the buyer’s own environment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can employees use an IT chatbot to create a help desk ticket and check its status?
Yes, some documented products support both steps. Microsoft’s Copilot Studio IT Helpdesk template can create a ServiceNow ticket when it cannot answer and lets employees inspect ticket details and status; Moveworks documents ticket creation, lookup, and status functions. The exact fields and permitted actions depend on the configured connection and workflow.
Do these products have published, comparable 2026 prices?
The product information cited here does not establish comparable current total prices. Plan eligibility, AI packaging, usage allowances, integrations, and implementation can affect the quote, so a feature comparison alone cannot establish total cost.
Are the reported resolution and deflection percentages comparable across vendors?
No. The cited pages present vendor- or customer-deployment figures, not a like-for-like independent benchmark with shared use cases, denominators, and measurement periods. Treat them as examples to investigate, not as a ranking.
Can these chatbots be used in government environments?
Atlassian documents Jira Service Management Virtual Service Agent as unavailable in Atlassian Government environments. The cited information does not establish government-environment eligibility for every other product, so confirm it for the specific product and deployment.
