Brave advertises built-in third-party ad blocking; Firefox offers an optional blocker that is off by default and does not catch every ad. If you want Safari’s tab groups and pinned tabs, Firefox Focus/Klar can instead act as a separate content blocker for Safari—but that is not the same as choosing a browser with an integrated blocker.
Which iPhone browser should you choose?
| Option | How ad blocking works | Tab features documented here | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brave for iPhone | Brave’s iOS App Store listing advertises built-in third-party ad blocking. This is Brave’s feature claim, not an independent blocking comparison. | Brave describes customizable browsing and tab organization generally, and its release notes mention iOS tab-tray interface improvements. The cited sources do not establish a specific current set of iPhone tab controls. Brave Browser Features | Start here if you want a browser that advertises an integrated blocker; check the app’s current iPhone controls for the tab setup you want. |
| Firefox for iOS | Optional built-in blocker based on an EasyList filter list. It is off by default and some ads remain. | Firefox supports multiple tabs and switching between regular and private browsing. Mozilla’s tab guide | A match if you want a familiar multi-tab browser and can accept enabling the blocker and its limits. |
| Safari + Firefox Focus/Klar | Mozilla documents Focus/Klar as a separate app that can provide content blocking in Safari; it is not Safari’s built-in browser blocker. | Safari supports Tab Groups and pinned tabs within a group. It also syncs tabs across Apple devices. Apple’s Safari tab guide | Consider this if Safari’s tab organization and Apple-device continuity matter more than having the blocker inside the browser. |
These documented features do not establish which option blocks the most ads, loads pages fastest, or uses the least battery. No comparative blocking measurements or independent privacy scores are available in the cited material.

What Firefox’s built-in ad blocker does—and misses
Firefox’s iOS blocker uses a filter list based on EasyList to block many ads before they load. Mozilla says it uses Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology and works alongside Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection. These are Mozilla’s descriptions of its implementation, not independent test results. Mozilla’s explanation of the iOS Ad Blocker
The blocker is not comprehensive. Mozilla says it does not block search-result ads, sponsored Firefox Home/New Tab content, or ads served directly by sites or otherwise missed by the current filter list. Enabling it should not be taken to mean that every page will be ad-free.
Turn it on in Firefox for iOS
- Open Firefox and go to Settings > Browsing > Content controls.
- Enable the ad-blocking option. Mozilla also says you can turn it on from the Site menu while visiting a page.
Mozilla Support’s instructions, updated August 16, 2026, say the feature is off by default. Menu names can change as the app is updated, so use the current Firefox settings if your screen differs. Block ads in Firefox for iOS

What “customizable tabs” means on iPhone
Firefox: regular and private browsing
Firefox’s documented iOS tab features include managing multiple tabs and switching between regular and private browsing. The cited Mozilla tab guide does not establish tab groups or pinned tabs for Firefox on iPhone, so do not assume those specific desktop-style controls are available. Manage tabs in Firefox for iOS
Safari: Tab Groups and pinned tabs
Safari lets you create Tab Groups and pin a tab within a group. These features organize pages inside Safari; they do not add ad blocking on their own. Apple also describes automatic suggestions for grouping tabs by topic using Apple Intelligence. The guide identifies supported devices running iOS 27 or later and says language and region availability varies, so treat this as an eligibility-dependent option rather than a standard feature on every iPhone. Use Firefox Focus/Klar as a separate Safari content blocker
Mozilla documents Firefox Focus, called Firefox Klar in some regions, as both a standalone privacy browser and an app that can act as a Safari content blocker. Its protection settings can be customized. This arrangement means using Safari for browsing and configuring a separate app for content blocking—not getting a blocker built into Safari. The Mozilla support page dates to August 29, 2024; check its current instructions against your iOS and app versions rather than relying on an older settings path. What is Firefox Klar for iOS?
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose based on setup, tabs, and your other devices
- Choose Brave if your priority is a browser whose iPhone listing advertises built-in third-party ad blocking. Confirm its current iOS tab controls in the app before choosing it for a particular tab workflow.
- Choose Firefox if you want multiple tabs and a regular/private browsing distinction alongside an optional integrated blocker, and are comfortable enabling it and accepting that some ads remain.
- Choose Safari with Focus/Klar if you value Safari Tab Groups or pinned tabs and do not mind adding and configuring a separate content-blocking app.
Safari can sync passwords, bookmarks, history, and tabs across Apple devices, and Apple documents Handoff for nearby devices. That may make it convenient if you already use Apple’s ecosystem; it is a continuity feature, not evidence of stronger ad blocking. Apple Safari
