Start by checking whether the exact service and region you want are available, whether your workload needs only to relay an already encoded file or to transcode it, and what outbound traffic will cost. Then test a real stream to YouTube before committing. Google Cloud is worth evaluating early: its Live Stream documentation lists Mumbai and Delhi regions, and its network-pricing page describes a no-charge category for VM-to-Google-service transfer that includes YouTube. That pricing rule is not proof that every Google Cloud workload is free, fastest, or cheapest overall.
If you want a cloud service rather than managing a server, StreamNeo is a simpler alternative for prerecorded YouTube video: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs continuously from the cloud, with no home computer to keep on.
Which Indian cloud server should you choose?
Treat Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure as options to evaluate, not as a ranked performance list. The available official documentation establishes India-region presence for these providers and a relevant Google Cloud network-pricing category, but it does not provide a comparable benchmark of sustained YouTube ingest from their virtual machines. Region proximity alone cannot establish stream quality.
| Provider | India-region evidence | YouTube-bound outbound pricing evidence | What remains to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud | Its Live Stream documentation lists Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2). Google Cloud Live Stream documentation | Its network-pricing page says transfer from a VM to specified Google products, including YouTube, is not charged under the documented VM-to-Google-service category. Google Cloud network pricing | Confirm that the exact VM or managed service, route, and account qualify. The rule does not cover every Google Cloud workload or establish total cost. |
| AWS | AWS documents India regions. AWS India regions | A comparable YouTube-bound egress exception is not established here. | Check the exact region, product, and current account-specific outbound charges. |
| Microsoft Azure | Microsoft says it has four cloud regions in India. Microsoft India region announcement | Azure’s bandwidth pricing page says outbound data transfer is charged at normal rates, subject to its pricing terms and exceptions. Azure bandwidth pricing | Check the exact product, destination, applicable exceptions, and current account-specific rate. |
This is a comparison of documented considerations, not a total-cost or speed ranking. Verify product availability separately from region availability: a provider may have a data center in India without offering your intended compute or managed streaming product in the specific region.

Decide what the server needs to do
A basic prerecorded-video stream needs a cloud machine or compatible streaming service, a video file accessible to it, an encoder or relay, and a YouTube ingestion endpoint and stream key. The key question is whether the machine only relays a compatible, already encoded file or must transcode it. Transcoding can change the CPU or GPU requirements and the bill; no universal VM size or instance type is established for this task.
- Relay an existing encode: Check that the source file’s format and settings are accepted by the chosen encoder and YouTube workflow. Avoid paying for transcoding capacity if you do not need to change the video.
- Transcode: Confirm the encoder’s requirements against the exact VM, including whether it needs a hardware encoder. Do not assume a typical cloud VM can handle a particular resolution or codec without checking.
- Run unattended: Plan how the encoder starts after a restart, how its stream key is protected, and how you will notice an interruption. These are operational checks to make for whichever provider you choose.
The published provider and YouTube guidance cited here does not establish a tested VM size, operating-system image, GPU requirement, or ready-to-run FFmpeg or OBS command for this use case. Treat implementation settings as workload- and encoder-specific rather than copying an unverified instance recommendation.

Choose an ingest protocol
RTMPS for a straightforward, lower-latency stream
RTMPS is the sensible starting point for ordinary continuous contribution when lower latency matters. Google describes it as RTMP carried through an SSL connection and says it requires port 443. Its guidance calls RTMPS “a good choice for most ordinary user content, especially if it requires low latency.” Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide
Use a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and configure the encoder with that server URL and the stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide describes entering those values, starting transmission, checking the preview, and then going live. YouTube’s encoder guide

HLS when its supported features fit
HLS can suit workflows that require HLS ingestion or particular HDR capabilities, but it uses segments rather than a continuous stream and therefore has higher latency, according to YouTube. Its operational requirements include TS segments 1–4 seconds long, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT requests. YouTube’s HLS instructions
For HDR, consult YouTube’s specific guidance, which specifies HEVC and encoder requirements. Verify that the selected cloud instance can meet those requirements; do not assume a VM includes the needed hardware encoding capability. YouTube HDR guidance

Compare providers with a real workload
- Confirm product and region: Check availability for the exact VM or managed live-stream product in your chosen India region. Do not infer service availability from a provider’s overall regional footprint.
- Classify the job: Decide whether the cloud service will relay an existing encode or transcode the file. Identify the encoder and any CPU, GPU, or hardware-encoding needs from that product’s current documentation.
- Estimate outbound traffic: Calculate the volume for your intended schedule and bitrate, then check the exact product’s current pricing category, destination, and account terms. Google’s VM-to-Google-service rule is specific; it should not be generalized to every route or workload. Azure lists outbound charges subject to its terms. A comparable AWS YouTube-specific exception is not established here.
- Test the actual stream: From the selected machine and region, run the real video, encoder, and YouTube endpoint. Check sustained bitrate, dropped frames, reconnect behavior, and whether the stream remains stable over the period you need. No comparative provider benchmark establishes which one performs best.
- Check unattended operation: Test restart behavior, safe handling of the stream key, and how you will detect a stopped or degraded stream before relying on it.
Do not choose on a headline compute rate alone. The relevant cost is account- and configuration-specific and can include compute, storage, and outbound traffic; the sources cited above are not enough to calculate a single monthly total for every workload.

- Protect the stream key: Treat it like a credential; keep it out of public scripts, screenshots, and shared logs. If it is exposed, replace it using YouTube’s current live-control settings and update the encoder.
- Check rights before streaming: A prerecorded file still needs appropriate rights for its video, music, and other included material. Review YouTube’s copyright rules and channel-specific monetization and reused-content policies before scheduling repeated or continuous playback.
- Verify the live preview: Confirm the correct video, audio, ingest status, and intended visibility in YouTube before relying on the stream.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | What to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | Server URL, stream key, selected ingest protocol, and network access to the required endpoint and port. | Re-enter the endpoint and key from YouTube’s current live controls; for RTMPS, confirm port 443 is reachable. |
| Stream connects but drops frames or stops | Sustained upload rate, machine load, encoder behavior, and connection stability from the selected region. | Test the real workload over a longer period; reduce encoding demands only if your output requirements permit it, or evaluate a different instance or region. |
| Server is running but the broadcast is not live | Whether video is reaching YouTube’s preview and whether the YouTube live workflow has been completed. | Check the preview and follow YouTube’s go-live controls; a running encoder alone does not complete the broadcast workflow. |
| HLS stream is rejected or delayed | TS segment format and duration, rolling playlist limit, HTTPS requests, and the expected segment-based latency. | Meet YouTube’s HLS requirements: 1–4 second segments and no more than five outstanding playlist segments. |
| HDR workflow will not encode as expected | Codec and encoder requirements, plus whether the selected cloud instance supports the needed encoding path. | Check YouTube’s HDR guidance and the exact instance’s capabilities before deploying. |
| Unexpected network bill | Whether the traffic qualifies for the chosen product’s specific pricing category and destination exception. | Inspect account-specific billing details and recalculate using the precise VM, route, and service rather than applying a provider-wide assumption. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo avoids configuring and maintaining a general-purpose VM: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo is for prerecorded video streamed to YouTube; it is not a camera-streaming service. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
