Builder.io’s Visual Copilot article describes URL and selected-section imports, but it was published on August 6, 2025, so confirm that workflow and the plugin’s current availability before relying on it. Neither vendor claim guarantees a clean conversion of every page; try a representative screen first and expect to inspect the result.
Which alternative fits your website?
For the two workflows with direct website-to-Figma instructions in the sources checked on October 3, 2026, html.to.design is the clearest documented option when you need to capture a private or local page. Builder.io Visual Copilot is worth checking if you want to import a public URL or copy a selected section, but verify that its documented 2025 steps still work. The available evidence does not establish current direct website-to-Figma workflows for html2design, Anima, or Locofy.ai, so treat those as options to investigate rather than confirmed substitutes.

The table describes documented workflows, not a quality ranking. No independent side-by-side test established conversion fidelity, speed, or the amount of cleanup required. Editable imports are a starting point, not a promise that every component, font, interaction, or responsive behavior will arrive intact.

Check access before output polish
If the page is public, URL import may be the simplest route. If it requires sign-in or runs on localhost, check for browser capture support before spending time comparing layer quality. html.to.design documents its browser extension for local and private/login pages. The cited Builder.io Visual Copilot article documents URL and section import, but does not establish private or local-page support.
#1 Best Overall
Decide whether you need the whole page or one section
For a complete page, compare whether the workflow imports the page you need and whether it supports the viewports relevant to your design. html.to.design documents desktop, tablet, and mobile viewport choices. Builder’s article describes both entering a page URL and selecting an element with the Chrome extension’s “Copy Layout” command. It does not provide a comparable viewport specification.
Plan for review and cleanup
Inspect the imported Figma file for missing images, unexpected grouping, typography or spacing differences, and layout behavior at the intended viewport. Dynamic pages can also show different content depending on login state, timing, or other page conditions. Capture the state you actually want to reference and compare it with the source. The sources do not provide independently verified accuracy measurements, so do not treat a vendor’s editable-output description as a fidelity guarantee.
What the documented alternatives do
html.to.design: best-documented choice for local or private pages
html.to.design describes a Figma plugin and browser extension for converting webpages into editable Figma designs. Its documented sequence is to enter a URL, choose viewport and theme options, and import; it also describes importing a landing page or pages in bulk. Its features documentation distinguishes public URL import from extension capture for local or private login pages, and lists desktop, tablet, and mobile viewports.

The html.to.design homepage lists up to 10 imports every 30 days on Free. It says Pro adds unlimited imports, high-resolution images, bulk imports, and a re-import shortcut; the retrieved homepage text does not state the plan prices. Check the live page for current quotas and pricing before choosing a plan.
The Chrome Web Store listing says the extension can send captured pages directly to the Figma plugin, save them locally as .h2d, download a .make file, or copy them to the clipboard. It notes that some features require the companion plugin.
Builder.io Visual Copilot: URL and section import, subject to a current-workflow check
In its article “Convert a Website to Figma Designs for Free,” published August 6, 2025, Builder.io describes opening the Visual Copilot Figma plugin’s Import tab, entering a URL, and importing the page. It also describes selecting an element with the Builder Chrome extension’s “Copy Layout” and pasting it into the plugin. The article called website and section import free at publication; it does not establish current pricing, plugin availability, or present-day behavior. Check the live plugin and instructions before building a workflow around them.
Rank #3
Do not confuse that website-to-Figma article with Builder’s separate existing-site-content import into Builder. The Builder documentation for that separate feature says, “This feature has been removed from Builder,” and recommends Visual Copilot. The warning is about importing site content into Builder’s editor; it does not, by itself, establish that the distinct Visual Copilot website-to-Figma workflow has been removed.
Other names to verify before adopting
An html2design alternatives guide updated August 17, 2026 names html2design, html.to.design, Anima, Locofy.ai, screenshot import, and manual recreation among possible workflows. Because it is written by a vendor, regard its rankings and product descriptions as promotional rather than independent comparisons. The material checked here does not verify current authoritative inbound website-to-Figma documentation for html2design, Anima, or Locofy.ai. Verify their live product documentation, input routes, and Figma output before treating them as direct alternatives.
How to test an import before committing
- Choose a representative page. Use one with the kinds of content you actually need—such as navigation, imagery, text, and responsive layout—rather than a trivial page.
- Confirm access. Test whether the page is public, requires a logged-in browser session, or is only available locally. Pick a workflow that documents the access route you need.
- Set the intended capture scope. Decide whether you need a whole page or one section, and choose the relevant viewport. Do not assume section selection or responsive variants exist unless the current tool documents them.
- Import and inspect in Figma. Compare the result with the source page. Check key text, images, spacing, grouping, and the specific page state you intended to capture.
- Check current limits and availability. Revisit the vendor’s current plan, quota, plugin listing, and workflow documentation before importing a large site or standardizing the process.
When a screenshot is enough—and when it is not
A screenshot imported into Figma can be useful as a visual reference, but it is a flat image rather than a reconstructed set of editable design layers. Manual recreation gives you control over the design file but requires rebuilding the layout yourself. If the goal is to revise page structure or individual elements, verify that the chosen importer produces editable content and budget time to review it.

If you only need a clean visual capture for documentation or review, rather than editable Figma layers, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server that can return a screenshot or PDF. It is not a website-to-Figma importer: use it for capture, not as a substitute for editable layers.

For a screenshot rather than an editable Figma import, ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one request. Its API accepts options for output format and capture behavior; the code below uses the supplied one-call example. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup and request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Common problems and what to check
- The page cannot be reached by URL: Check whether it requires authentication or is only available on a local development server. html.to.design documents browser-extension capture for private or local pages; the cited Builder article does not establish that capability.
- The imported page looks incomplete: Compare the live source and imported design at the same intended page state and viewport. Check whether the relevant content had loaded before capture and whether the workflow supports the page or section you selected.
- The result is not editable in the way you need: Confirm that you used an import workflow described as producing editable Figma content, not a screenshot-only route. Then inspect the resulting layers rather than assuming every visual element is separately editable.
- A step in a published tutorial does not match the product: Plugin listings, pricing, and feature behavior can change. Check the current plugin listing and vendor documentation; Builder’s cited Visual Copilot steps date to August 6, 2025.
- You are unsure whether a named tool is a direct alternative: Find current product documentation that explicitly shows website input and Figma output. A vendor comparison guide or a mention in an alternatives list is not enough to verify that workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Does a website importer reproduce interactions in Figma?
The cited documentation describes webpage content imports, not a guarantee that live interactions will be recreated as working Figma prototypes. Treat interactive behavior as something to rebuild or verify separately.
Is importing a website the same as converting its source HTML?
Not necessarily. The documented workflows here describe importing or capturing a rendered page. The sources do not establish that these workflows ingest a website’s original source code as a faithful design-system conversion.
