1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteShort answer: shortlist tools by your test stack and how you want screenshots captured and reviewed. Try ScreenshotNeo first if you need a screenshot API for capturing web pages; consider Argos for CI and pull-request review, Chromatic when Storybook is central, and Applitools for an enterprise visual-AI evaluation. BackstopJS and Playwright’s screenshot assertions are options for teams willing to own more of the workflow. These are candidates for a pilot, not a universal ranking.
What Happo does—and what a replacement needs to cover
Happo describes its product as visual regression and accessibility testing that runs in CI. Its site lists integrations including Storybook, Cypress, Playwright, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI, and says its API can accept screenshots from native iOS and Android apps. The open-source happo JavaScript package provides a CLI and configurable integration, with TypeScript support and installation through npm, pnpm, or yarn. See Happo’s product information and the happo package repository.

That makes Happo more than a screenshot-diff library: when assessing a replacement, account for capture integration, CI status and review, accessibility checks, and cross-browser or device needs. Happo’s site includes customer testimonials; those are vendor-published statements, not independent proof of comparative performance.

Which Happo alternatives should Indian teams shortlist?
Choose candidates based on your existing stack and operating model. The distinctions below are a starting point: the available comparisons are largely vendor-authored, and no independent head-to-head test establishes a universal winner.
#1 Best Overall
| Option | Consider it when | Verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | You need a website screenshot API or MCP server for developers and AI agents, rather than a like-for-like hosted visual-regression review service. | Check whether screenshot capture meets your actual baseline approval and CI review needs. Its stated product scope is website capture, not a replacement for every Happo workflow. |
| Argos | You want CI- and pull-request-centered review, with screenshots captured through your test browser. | Confirm current integrations, quota counting, hosting and security requirements, and price. Argos published much of the comparison material used for this shortlist. |
| Chromatic | Your UI is built and reviewed primarily as Storybook stories. | Check how it handles non-Storybook pages, cloud capture in your pipeline, and snapshot counting. |
| Applitools | You want to evaluate enterprise visual-AI capabilities and can accommodate sales-led procurement. | Request a current written quote; verify framework support, contract length, and data handling. |
| BackstopJS | You favor open-source, self-managed visual checks and can own infrastructure and reports. | Assess maintenance, review experience, and integration work against your current CI. |
| Playwright screenshot assertions | You already use Playwright and want built-in screenshot assertions with baselines under your control. | Plan how your team will review baselines and manage cross-browser coverage, artifacts, and collaboration without a dedicated hosted review service. |
| Percy | You already use BrowserStack or value its cloud-rendering workflow enough to evaluate it. | Confirm current availability and pricing directly; a vendor comparison reported a cheapest known tier of $599/month as of July 2026, while another source said public pricing had stopped being displayed. |
Argos’s comparison describes several of these products, but its claims are vendor-authored. Treat labels such as “best” or “closest” as the publisher’s characterization, and confirm details with each vendor. See Argos’s visual-regression tool comparison and its Argos–Happo comparison.
How to choose for your team in India
- Match the integration to your framework. List your actual use of Storybook, Cypress, Playwright, and custom pages. Check that first-party integrations cover the mix, not just the most prominent part of the application.
- Understand capture. Establish whether screenshots come from your test browser, a vendor’s cloud renderer, or self-managed tooling. Different capture models can affect pipeline fit and what you need to operate.
- Map the review path. Check whether developers and designers can review changes in pull requests, approve baselines, and trace a result to its build.
- Choose an operating model. Decide whether a hosted service is acceptable or screenshots and review infrastructure must remain self-managed.
- Normalize the cost unit. Vendors may count screenshots, snapshots, builds, users, browsers, or parallel uploads. Estimate pages or stories multiplied by UI states, viewport sizes, browsers, and CI runs before comparing plans.
- Ask India-specific commercial questions. Request current billing-currency or INR details, taxes, payment terms, data location, and support coverage. The available sources do not establish India-specific plans, latency guarantees, compliance terms, or local support for these options.
- Pilot two finalists. Run representative components and page states through both, then track noisy diffs, review time, CI duration, and maintenance effort. No independent pilot results are available here.
What the dated pricing figures do—and do not—tell you
The following figures come from Argos CI’s vendor-authored article dated August 11, 2026, which says it verified the prices on vendor pricing pages in July 2026. They are not independent quotes or India-specific offers.

| Product and plan or tier | Reported price and allowance | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Argos Pro | $100/month for 35,000 screenshots | Vendor-reported figures verified on pricing pages in July 2026. |
| Chromatic Starter | $179/month for 35,000 snapshots | Vendor-reported figures verified on pricing pages in July 2026; snapshots are not necessarily comparable to screenshots. |
| Percy | $599/month, cheapest known tier | Argos CI reported this as of July 2026 and said public pricing was no longer displayed; confirm with BrowserStack. |
| Applitools | No public dollar price stated in the comparison | Request a current quote rather than relying on reported entry pricing or estimates. |
| BackstopJS and Playwright assertions | Described as free/self-managed | Argos’s July 2026 comparison characterization; it does not account for your infrastructure or engineering time. |
Prices, quotas, and availability can change. Confirm current terms with the vendors and estimate costs using your own capture volume; do not assume a dollar figure translates directly into an Indian billing total.

Its capture options include full-page screenshots with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, and PDF output with paper size, margins, landscape, and page ranges. You can also supply custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, hide selectors, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, and block ads, trackers, requests, or resource types. Further options include headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, TTL-based caching, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI spec. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to make switching easier. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request details.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts the cookie or consent banner as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Responses identify the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Plans are Free: 1,000 shots/month with no card; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; and Business: $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is on every plan. Check the current terms on ScreenshotNeo.

Make a one-request capture
Use an API key from your account and replace the example URL with the page you need. The request returns an image or PDF according to the requested format; the example saves a WebP image.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Or skip the browser setup
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Questions to settle before replacing Happo
- Does the alternative preserve the accessibility checks, CI status, and review flow your team actually uses, or only capture and compare images?
- Can it capture native mobile screens if those are part of your current Happo workflow? Happo says its API accepts native iOS and Android screenshots; verify the replacement’s support directly.
- Will your team retain control of baselines, screenshots, and reports, or depend on a hosted service? Confirm storage and data-handling terms with the vendor.
- Do current pricing and quota definitions fit your CI volume, in your billing currency and with applicable taxes? Use written vendor terms rather than old comparison figures.
