If you want manual control over iPhone photos but Halide is not the right fit, start with Camera M for still-photo controls and multiple RAW options, Obscura for a tactile capture workflow with editing built in, or ProCamera for a broader stills-and-video toolkit. Moment Pro Camera II is worth considering if you want processing controls or use Moment accessories. These are feature-based recommendations, not a claim that one app makes better images: no controlled image-quality comparison is established here.
How to choose a Halide alternative
Manual controls are only part of the decision. Consider whether you need independent control of ISO and shutter speed, manual focus aids, a particular RAW workflow, editing in the same app, or substantial video tools. Also verify compatibility for your exact iPhone model and lens: app features and Apple ProRAW support vary by device.

What to compare before switching
Exposure and focus
Check whether the app lets you set ISO and shutter speed independently, offers exposure-priority or automatic modes, and provides manual focus. If you depend on focus peaking, magnification, or lens selection, confirm that each is listed for your device rather than assuming every advertised feature works on every iPhone.

RAW is not one single workflow
Camera M advertises zero-process RAW as well as RAW with stabilization, while several apps list Apple ProRAW support. These labels should not be treated as interchangeable. Apple says ProRAW combines information from a standard RAW format with iPhone image processing, allowing more flexibility when adjusting exposure, color, and white balance. Device and lens compatibility
Apple ProRAW is available only on supported iPhone models. Depending on the device, Apple says resolution choices can include 12 MP, 48 MP, or HEIF 48 MP. An app may impose additional limits on formats, stabilization, video, resolution, or lens selection. Before paying or building a workflow around a particular mode, check the app’s current compatibility notes and test it with the lens you actually use.
Stills, video, editing, and cost
ProCamera’s developer describes a broad mix of still capture, video, and editing. Obscura includes editing in its listing, while Moment Pro Camera II pairs manual capture with processing controls and video capabilities. Those features matter if you want a single-app workflow; they may add complexity if your priority is still photos alone. App prices and purchase models can change by storefront and date, so verify the current listing in your region rather than relying on an older comparison.

When a tripod helps
For low-light scenes or long exposures, a tripod can reduce camera movement while the phone is exposing. NASA’s smartphone astrophotography guide includes tripod use in that context. It is an optional aid for those situations, not a requirement for everyday manual photography.
