What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The best settings for smooth performance in Gears of War: E-Day depend on your PC and frame-rate target; there is no verified universal preset. Start at your display’s native resolution, use the built-in benchmark to compare one change at a time, and try a compatible upscaler before lowering visual settings. The PC version requires a graphics card that supports hardware ray tracing, so ray tracing is a hardware prerequisite—not a setting you can simply turn off to bypass the requirement.
Check your PC and choose a target first
Before tuning, confirm that your system meets the current PC requirements. The Steam listing requires a hardware ray-tracing-capable graphics card. For the specific processor, memory, and GPU tiers, check the final PC specification announcement from Xbox or the live store listing; the earlier open-beta specifications are not a substitute for launch requirements. Xbox said the team continued work on stability and performance after the July open beta. Requirements and feature availability can change with patches, drivers, or storefront updates.

Pick a realistic target for your display—such as a steady frame rate that suits its refresh rate—before adjusting graphics. A consistent result with acceptable image quality is more useful than a higher peak reading that fluctuates or feels less responsive.

- Update, then establish a baseline. Install current game and graphics-driver updates. Run the built-in benchmark with your current settings and note the resolution, upscaler, average frame rate, and any available low-percentile or frame-time information.
- Begin at native resolution. If performance meets your target and the image looks good, keep it. If it falls short, test one compatible upscaler at a time, starting with its Quality mode. If that is not enough, try a more performance-oriented mode and inspect the image for softness, ghosting, or other temporal artifacts.
- Compare like with like. Repeat the same benchmark or a repeatable scene after each change. Keep the same resolution and other settings while testing a single variable, then record both frame consistency and image quality.
- Try frame generation only if supported. It can increase displayed frame rates on compatible hardware, but it does not replace a responsive underlying frame rate. Check input feel and visual artifacts as well as the displayed FPS.
- Reduce visual settings gradually. Once you have tested resolution and upscaling, lower demanding graphics options incrementally and benchmark again. The available evidence does not establish one setting as the largest performance bottleneck for every PC.
Choose an upscaling path your hardware supports
The available choices vary by hardware and software support. Xbox lists AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, and Intel XeSS; Steam lists NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone, as well as optional Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation on supported hardware. The official Xbox technical overview describes the game as built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, with hardware ray tracing and NVIDIA RTX features. Do not assume every option will appear on every system.

For each available option, compare native rendering with one upscaler and mode at a time in the same scene. Judge sharpness and stability alongside frame rate. If frame generation is offered, evaluate latency and artifacts separately from the underlying rendering performance.
Should you enable Low Core Mode?
Leave Low Core Mode off as the general starting point. Tom’s Hardware reported lower performance with the mode enabled across its 25-CPU test pool. In a separate, deliberately constrained dual-core test, however, it helped with asset streaming and freezing. That makes it a conditional troubleshooting option—not a blanket FPS boost.
If you use a low-core-count device or handheld and encounter streaming stutter or freezes, compare the same scene with the mode off and on. Keep it enabled only if the result improves on your own system.

What published performance results can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reported about 50 FPS at 4K High on one review setup: a Ryzen 7 9700X, GeForce RTX 5070, and 32GB of RAM. In that review configuration, enabling DLSS 4.5 dynamic frame generation and dynamic upscaling while raising ray-traced settings produced about 115 FPS. These are results from one reviewer’s test, not a prediction for other PCs or a recommended hardware requirement.
NVIDIA says RTX Mega Geometry requires an RTX graphics card with at least 12GB of VRAM. That is a requirement for this vendor feature, not the game’s baseline PC requirement. NVIDIA’s published performance multipliers and FPS figures are vendor benchmarks under specified RTX 50-series conditions, not independent or typical results.

The Xbox product page describes Xbox Series X|S support for 4K Ultra HD, HDR, and 60 FPS when used with a compatible display. Those console capabilities are not a universal PC target: PC performance depends on the system, resolution, selected settings, and supported features.

Useful feature and platform details
The official Xbox technical article says Advanced Shader Delivery can provide precompiled shaders on supported storefronts and reduce first-run shader stutter on compatible systems. It is a platform feature, not an in-game graphics toggle. The Steam listing also identifies a built-in benchmark and variable rate shading, which can help you compare changes and understand the available feature set.
For players who cannot run the game locally, NVIDIA says GeForce NOW can stream it. Streaming availability and performance depend on the service and account conditions; it is a separate option from tuning local PC graphics.
