If you’re shopping for a midrange Android phone but don’t want a Google Pixel, start with the Samsung Galaxy A57 for a slimmer, lighter build and fast wired charging, or the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro for distinctive design and a pared-back interface. Choose the OnePlus 15R if performance matters most, or the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE if you want a dedicated telephoto camera. A discounted Pixel 9a is still worth comparing when it costs less locally.
These recommendations reflect published comparisons, not hands-on testing here. The cited prices are publication-time figures from 2026, not live quotes; compare the same country and storage configuration, and check current local pricing and availability before buying.

Android Central describes Nothing OS as close to stock Android, which may appeal if you prefer a minimal-feeling interface. Its alternative-phone article discusses Phone 3a Pro and reports three major Android updates total for that model; do not treat that as a support commitment for the (4a) Pro. Check Nothing’s current support commitment for the exact model and regional variant you plan to buy.

Choose the OnePlus 15R if performance is your main priority
Android Central positions the OnePlus 15R as a stronger-hardware, performance-oriented alternative, with a reported US starting price of $699 in its March 2026 article. The cited specifications are a 6.83-inch 165Hz display, a 7,400mAh battery, and 80W charging. Those figures make it the option to investigate when speed, a large screen, battery capacity, and fast charging matter more than the lowest purchase price or compact size.

The Galaxy S25 FE has a dedicated 3x telephoto camera, which is a meaningful advantage if you often photograph distant subjects. Android Central also lists a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, 4,900mAh battery, and 45W charging. Its comparison does not state a price, so check the current local cost against the A57 and other options before treating it as a midrange-value choice.

A larger megapixel count on a main camera alone does not establish better photo quality. If camera choice is the deciding factor, consider whether you need optical telephoto reach rather than relying on a single headline camera number.
When a discounted Pixel 9a is still the better value
Looking beyond Pixel does not mean ruling out every Pixel. Android Central reported a low US Pixel 9a price of $399 in 2026, but that is a historical article figure rather than a live offer. If the 9a is still substantially cheaper in your market than comparable alternatives, it may be the better value; check today’s local price and compare the same storage tier.
How to compare prices and avoid a poor fit
- Match country and storage. Compare phones sold in the same market with similar storage. The cited US, UK, and Australian figures are not interchangeable, and the Nothing price references in the TechRadar article should be verified locally.
- Check your carrier and regional variant. Before buying an imported phone, verify the exact model and carrier compatibility. Android Central flags US carrier concerns for the Nothing Phone 3a Pro, including reported Verizon issues; that warning is not proof of a problem with every Nothing model, so confirm compatibility for the specific (4a) Pro and carrier.
- Confirm current software support. Support commitments can vary by model and region. Check the manufacturer’s current update policy for the exact handset rather than transferring a commitment from a related model.
- Compare the features you will use. Decide whether you value the A57’s thinner, lighter build and 45W wired charging, Nothing’s distinctive design, the OnePlus 15R’s performance-oriented hardware, or the S25 FE’s 3x telephoto camera.
- Recheck live price and availability. The figures above come from 2026 editorial articles and are not live retailer quotes. Verify the unlocked or carrier-specific version, storage, warranty, and stock in your location.
What the comparison does—and does not—establish
These are editorial comparisons rather than controlled tests. TechRadar’s Nico Arboleda described the capability of the phones in his comparison as a personal takeaway, writing: “My biggest takeaway while comparing the three mid-range phones, however, was that no matter which handset you might personally prefer, it’s pleasantly surprising to see how capable they all are compared to their flagship brethren.” That is his opinion, not a measured benchmark or a guarantee about every buyer’s experience.
The cited articles provide a useful starting point for matching priorities, but they do not establish today’s inventory, exact local SKU specifications, carrier-band support for every variant, warranty terms, or current update commitments. Check those details with the manufacturer, carrier, or retailer for the phone you intend to buy.
