For organizing and finding saved web links, Raindrop.io is the clearest place to start. If your work goes beyond bookmarking, choose by task: Zotero is built for collecting research and producing citations, Readwise Reader for reading and annotating articles and documents, Obsidian for connecting ideas in a personal knowledge base, and Notion for keeping research in a shared team workspace. These tools solve different problems, so the best Google Keep alternative depends on what you need to do with what you save.
Which Google Keep alternative fits your research workflow?
Google Keep is a lightweight notes app. For research and saved links, you may need a more specific workflow: a searchable bookmark library, a reference manager, an article-reading and annotation tool, or a linked notebook. The options below are not a universal ranking; each is a better fit for a different kind of work.

| Main task | Consider | Why it fits | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Organize and retrieve web links | Raindrop.io | Collections, tags, filters, highlights, full-text search, saved-page copies, and collection sharing are described on its official product page. | Check current plan terms and decide whether a dedicated bookmark library suits you better than a general notes app. |
| Collect scholarly sources and produce citations | Zotero | Its official site describes browser capture, collections and tags, saved searches, bibliography generation, and shared libraries. | It is a reference-management workflow and may be more structure than casual link saving requires. |
| Read and annotate articles and documents | Readwise Reader | Its product page lists highlights and annotations, full-text and offline search, PDFs, ebooks, and text-to-speech. | It is aimed at people who actively read and revisit material, not only those who want a simple bookmark list. |
| Build a connected personal knowledge base | Obsidian | The Obsidian site describes linked notes, relationship visualizations, Canvas for research and brainstorming, and community plugins. | You will need to shape a note system and decide whether plugins or optional sync meet your needs. |
| Keep research in a shared team workspace | Notion | Its product page emphasizes knowledge capture, finding answers with citations, and team workspace functions. | The page is team-oriented and does not establish detailed consumer web-clipping capabilities; assess the current clipper and plan directly. |
Choose based on what happens after you save something
A bookmark is just the starting point. Before moving your collection, consider how you capture material, how you expect to find it again, whether you need to annotate or cite it, and whether you work alone or with others.
Recommended Free Tools
- Capture: Check for the browser extension, mobile share-sheet support, an import route, or a workable manual-entry process.
- Retrieval: Look for the combination you actually use—tags, collections, filters, saved searches, or full-text search.
- Research depth: Decide whether you need a simple note, a saved article, highlights and annotations, or a citation-ready reference.
- Preservation and portability: Check whether the service keeps archived copies, syncs across your devices, and lets you export your material.
- Collaboration and complexity: Choose between a private library, a shared collection, and a team workspace; avoid taking on setup that does not help with your work.
What each alternative is best at
Raindrop.io: a searchable library for saved links
Raindrop.io is the most direct option when the main problem is that saved links become difficult to sort and retrieve. Its product page describes collections, tags, filters, highlights, sharing, and full-text search across saved pages and files. The service also claims that saved web pages, PDFs, and YouTube videos are searchable throughout their content, including spoken words; treat that as Raindrop.io’s product claim rather than an independent assessment. The page advertises unlimited bookmarks and collections starting at $0, but plan terms can change, so check the current details before choosing a tier.

Zotero: sources that need organized references and citations
Zotero is the more suitable choice when saved material needs to become a bibliography, not just a list of links. Its site describes collecting, organizing, annotating, citing, and sharing research. Browser capture, collections, tags, saved searches, bibliography generation, and shared libraries support a more formal source-management workflow. Zotero’s official page describes it as “a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share research.” Casual readers may find this structure unnecessary if they only want to revisit a few articles.
Readwise Reader: a workspace for reading and annotation
Choose Readwise Reader if the saved item is something you intend to read closely. The service lists articles, PDFs, and ebooks among its supported content, along with highlights, annotations, full-text search, offline search, and text-to-speech. That focus makes it a better match for revisiting and working with reading material than for maintaining a bare list of bookmarks.

Obsidian: notes connected around your research
Obsidian is suited to turning research notes into a connected personal knowledge base. Its linked-note model can help relate ideas across notes, while Canvas supports visual research and brainstorming. Community plugins add options, and sync is optional. This flexibility comes with a trade-off: you will need to decide how to organize the system and which plugins or sync arrangements are appropriate for you.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNotion: research alongside shared team work
Notion is worth considering when research belongs in a broader team workspace. Its current product page emphasizes knowledge capture, finding answers with citations, and team functions. That page does not establish the details of consumer clipping, so verify that the current web clipper and plan cover your capture workflow before migrating links.

When combining tools makes sense
You do not have to make every saved item fit one app. One reasonable workflow is to keep raw links in a bookmark manager, send sources that need bibliographic records to Zotero, and use a note workspace to synthesize ideas. This is a workflow suggestion based on the different roles these products describe; it does not assume that a particular integration has been tested. Keep the number of tools limited to the jobs you actually need, or you may replace a disorganized library with several disconnected ones.

Pocket is no longer an available read-it-later service. Mozilla says Pocket has been phased out, including its web, Android, iOS, and macOS products and browser extensions. Mozilla points readers to built-in Firefox features such as Tab Groups and enhanced bookmarks for managing reading lists; see Mozilla’s Pocket status page. TechCrunch reported on August 14, 2026 that the deadline to export saved articles and related items was October 8, 2025, so that export window has passed; see its Pocket transition overview. For a replacement, compare current options such as Raindrop.io for link organization or Readwise Reader for reading and annotation, and check each provider’s current features and terms.
