Best Gaming Tablet: Which One Fits the Games You Play?

Choosing a gaming tablet starts with your games, not the highest refresh-rate claim. Compare compact Android options with premium tablets that also serve work and media needs.

The best gaming tablet depends first on what you play and how you want to hold it. For compact Android gaming, the RedMagic Astra 2 and Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 are the clearest gaming-first options in the available 2026 reviews. The M5 iPad Pro is a stronger fit if you also need a premium work tablet, while the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus is a premium Android alternative. These are picks based on published reviews—not hands-on testing by this site—and a tablet’s refresh rate or benchmark score does not guarantee that a particular game will run at the same frame rate.

Which gaming tablet should you choose?

Tablet Best fit What the cited coverage establishes Important consideration
RedMagic Astra 2 Compact Android gaming and handheld play Tom’s Guide describes an OLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate, Game Space, external-display functionality, and strong performance in several demanding Android games. The faster USB-C port’s position can be awkward with a telescopic controller. The 185Hz panel does not mean games render at 185 frames per second.
Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 / Y700 Gen5 Compact Android gaming with strong review-unit benchmark results Notebookcheck’s reviewed model uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Its reported Wild Life Extreme Unlimited result was 7225 points. That benchmark is not a prediction of frame rates in every game. Check the specific titles and configuration you care about.
Apple iPad Pro M5, 11-inch or 13-inch Gaming alongside productivity, media, and other tablet work GamesRadar lists M5-powered models with 120Hz displays and positions the Pro as a productivity-capable premium tablet. GamesRadar cautions that it is expensive and may be more tablet than a gaming-only buyer needs.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus Premium Android tablet use, including gaming TechRadar identifies a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip and reports strong results in some gaming benchmarks. Do not confuse it with the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus: Tom’s Guide reports that the FE Plus struggled with Ex Astris.

The comparison is based on the cited outlets’ reviews and guides; it is not a single, controlled head-to-head test. Their benchmark results use different review units and tests, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable proof of game performance.

What matters most when choosing a gaming tablet?

Your game library and operating system

Start with the games you actually intend to play. Confirm that they are available for the tablet’s operating system and that the model can run them acceptably at the settings you want. Native mobile games, cloud gaming, and remote play from another device are different use cases: a tablet suitable for one is not automatically the best choice for the others.

For demanding Android games, Tom’s Guide reports that its RedMagic Astra 2 review unit played Zenless Zone Zero, Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact, and Fortnite with settings turned up. That is useful evidence for those named games in that review, not a guarantee for every game, later software version, or regional configuration. The cited coverage does not establish a comparable list of tested games for every tablet in this comparison.

Real play versus display and benchmark numbers

A high refresh rate describes the display’s capacity to refresh; the game must also support higher frame rates, and the tablet must sustain them. Tom’s Guide lists the Astra 2’s 185Hz screen and reports these results for its review unit: Geekbench 6 scores of 3771 single-core and 11979 multi-core, plus 7993 points and 47.87 fps in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. Those are review-unit benchmark results, not frame-rate promises for a specific game.

Notebookcheck reports 7225 points for the Legion Tab Gen 5 review unit in Wild Life Extreme Unlimited and 78.8% stability in its Solar Bay stress test. The outlet also gives comparison results from other reviewed devices, but differences in test, device, and configuration mean those values should not be turned into a universal ranking of gaming experience. Use benchmarks as one clue, then look for observed performance in the games you play.

Size, controls, and ports

A compact tablet is easier to use as a handheld, but comfort depends on the tablet, controller fit, and where the ports sit. Tom’s Guide found the Astra 2’s faster USB-C port awkwardly placed for a telescopic controller attachment. If you plan to charge while playing, use wired accessories, or connect an external display, confirm that the layout works with your setup before buying.

The Astra 2 review describes external-display functionality, which may help when you want a larger screen. That does not establish that every game, dock, cable, or display combination will work; verify the exact connection method and accessory compatibility for your intended setup.

Secondary use and value

If the tablet will also be used for work, note-taking, or media, assess those needs alongside gaming. GamesRadar presents the M5 iPad Pro as a productivity-capable option, while warning that its premium price can be excessive if gaming is the only purpose. The Android options may make more sense if their form factor and game compatibility match your needs, but current prices and retailer availability are not established here.

What do the reviews say about each option?

RedMagic Astra 2: compact Android gaming with a high-refresh OLED

Tom’s Guide describes the Astra 2 as a compact gaming tablet with an OLED panel, 185Hz refresh rate, Game Space, and external-display functionality. Its review reports strong benchmark results and says demanding Android games including Zenless Zone Zero, Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact, and Fortnite played with settings turned up. Treat that as evidence from the outlet’s review unit and named games, rather than a guarantee about every title or sustained frame rate.

Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5: a compact option with a strong stress-test result

Notebookcheck identifies the reviewed Legion Tab Gen 5, also referred to as Y700 Gen5, as using Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. In Wild Life Extreme Unlimited, Notebookcheck reports 7225 points for its review unit; its Solar Bay stress-test stability result is 78.8%. These are results from named tests, not direct measurements of every game’s performance or a guarantee that the tablet will maintain a particular frame rate in play.

iPad Pro M5: a gaming choice when you also need a productivity tablet

GamesRadar lists 11-inch and 13-inch M5 iPad Pro models with 120Hz displays. Its guide presents the Pro as a choice for people who want gaming alongside productivity, while noting the high cost and the possibility that it is excessive for gaming alone. The cited information does not establish that every game takes advantage of the display’s maximum refresh rate.

Galaxy Tab S10 Plus: keep it distinct from the FE Plus

TechRadar describes the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus as a premium Android tablet with a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ and reports strong results in some gaming benchmarks. That is a separate model from the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus. Tom’s Guide reports that the FE Plus struggled with Ex Astris, so the FE result should not be used to characterize the S10 Plus—or the S10 Plus’s benchmark coverage used to imply the FE Plus performs the same way.

How to make a decision without overvaluing specs

  1. List the games and services you use. Check operating-system support and look for evidence about those specific titles, rather than relying on a chipset name or a general gaming label.
  2. Choose the form factor. If you want to play with a controller attached, consider tablet size, grip, port position, and whether you need to charge while playing.
  3. Decide whether this is also a work or media tablet. A productivity-focused premium model may be worth considering if you will use those capabilities regularly; otherwise, avoid paying for features that do not serve your use.
  4. Check the exact model and configuration. Distinguish standard and FE editions, and confirm the generation, storage, regional configuration, software support, and accessory fit for the product being sold.
  5. Look for game-specific performance evidence. Treat benchmark scores and stress tests as clues from the named review unit and test—not as substitutes for observed gameplay in your titles.
  6. Verify current price and availability. Retail stock and pricing can change, and the cited reviews do not establish a current retailer snapshot.

Is a gaming tablet worth it?

A gaming tablet is worth considering when its supported games, screen size, portability, and controls suit how you play. A compact Android model is the more direct fit among these options for handheld-style mobile gaming; a premium general-purpose tablet is easier to justify when you also need its productivity features. If you mainly want to play a few specific games, confirm their compatibility and real performance first: neither a high refresh-rate display nor a benchmark result alone answers that question.
