In 2026, RTINGS and Tom’s Guide put the Logitech G Pro X2 Superstrike at the top of their guides, while PC Gamer names the Razer Viper V4 Pro its overall pick. That disagreement is a useful reminder to choose for your hand, grip, games and budget—not just a ranking. Here’s a focused shortlist and what to consider before buying.
Which gaming mouse should you choose?
The Logitech G Pro X2 Superstrike is a strong starting point if you want a premium all-rounder and are interested in configurable haptic clicks. It is the top recommendation in RTINGS’ gaming-mouse guide, updated July 30, 2026, and Tom’s Guide’s best-overall pick in its guide updated October 5, 2026. PC Gamer instead gives the overall lead to the Razer Viper V4 Pro in its 2026 guide, with a May 14, 2026 pricing update, describing it as lighter and well built.

Those are competing editorial judgments, not a universal test result. The better choice depends on how each mouse fits your hand and whether its features matter to the games you play. These are recommendations reported by the named publications; this article does not claim hands-on testing.
Best gaming mice by use
| Use | Mouse | Why it may fit | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium all-rounder | Logitech G Pro X2 Superstrike | RTINGS and Tom’s Guide both recommend it at the top of their 2026 guides. Tom’s Guide highlights configurable haptic clicks. | Tom’s Guide calls it premium-priced and says casual players may get less benefit from its features. Its reported US price was $179 when that guide was updated October 5, 2026; retail prices and stock can change. |
| Competitive play alternative | Razer Viper V4 Pro | PC Gamer’s overall pick for 2026; PC Gamer describes it as lighter, and RTINGS includes it among notable alternatives. | It is a competing editorial pick, not a consensus winner. Check whether its shape suits your hand and grip. |
| Budget category | Redragon M916 Pro | Tom’s Guide names it its budget pick. | Confirm the exact configuration and current local price before buying; the category label alone does not establish that every listing is a good value. |
| Wired | Glorious Model O Eternal | PC Gamer lists it as its best wired gaming mouse. | Choose it if you specifically want a wired model; check current configuration and availability in your region. |
| MMO | Corsair Scimitar Elite Wireless SE | PC Gamer’s MMO pick. A dedicated MMO category is useful if you regularly need additional programmable controls. | Consider whether you will actually use extra buttons, as well as whether the shape works for your hand. |
| Larger hand or palm grip | Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro | RTINGS suggests it as an alternative to the Viper V4 Pro for larger hands and palm grip. TechRadar lists up to 45,000 DPI, 8,000 Hz polling, six buttons and up to 150 hours of battery life. | RTINGS notes that it is heavier and its right-handed ergonomic shape may be less accommodating for smaller hands and other grip styles. TechRadar’s figures are listed specifications, not evidence that higher numbers improve play. |
| Work and play, with extra controls | Logitech G502 X PLUS | RTINGS identifies it as a work-and-play option; Logitech’s live US gaming-mouse catalog lists G502 X variants alongside its lighter PRO mice. | Check the specific variant: the catalog listing does not establish that every G502 X model has identical features. |
Model availability and retail listings vary by country. The cited guides and catalog are US-oriented or do not establish universal regional availability, so check the precise model, configuration, price and stock at a retailer in your region.

How to choose by fit, game and connection
Start with your hand and grip
Shape is a practical first filter. Consider your hand size, whether you use a palm, claw or fingertip grip, and whether you want a symmetrical shape or a right-handed ergonomic one. Razer’s official selection guide says that players differ in preference and play style; RTINGS also treats fit and grip as selection factors. If you can, try the shape in person or check the retailer’s return terms before committing.
Match controls to your games
For competitive FPS play, low latency, reliable tracking and manageable weight may matter more than a large number of buttons. For MMO or MOBA play, additional programmable controls may be more useful. Extra buttons only help if their placement and layout suit your hand and the actions you want to assign.
Rank #2

- LIGHTSYNC technology: Logitech G LIGHTSYNC technology provides fully customizable RGB lighting that can also synchronize with your gaming (requires Logitech Gaming Software)

Choose the connection deliberately
For gaming, RTINGS recommends a dedicated USB receiver rather than Bluetooth, which it describes as higher-latency and less reliable. Treat that as RTINGS’ buying guidance, not an absolute rule for every device or player. A wired model is another straightforward option if you prefer not to rely on a wireless connection.
Keep headline specifications in perspective
Tom’s Guide reports the G Pro X2 Superstrike at a maximum 44,000 DPI, 8,000 Hz polling, five buttons and 2.1 oz. TechRadar reports the DeathAdder V4 Pro at up to 45,000 DPI and 8,000 Hz polling, with six buttons and up to 150 hours of battery life. These are product specifications or claims relayed by publications, not market statistics or guarantees of better performance. Maximum DPI, polling rate and minimum weight do not automatically make a mouse better for every player.

What the 2026 rankings tell you—and what they don’t
RTINGS says its rankings account for factors including price and availability, while its July 30, 2026 guide and Tom’s Guide’s October 5 guide favor the G Pro X2 Superstrike. PC Gamer’s 2026 guide favors the Viper V4 Pro. Their differing choices show why a headline ranking is best used as a shortlist, not a substitute for matching a mouse to your needs.
Prices, stock, model variants and rankings can change quickly, and the cited publications do not establish that the same products or prices are available everywhere. Before ordering, verify the exact variant and current local listing. Don’t assume a mouse pad is required for every setup; surface compatibility is a separate practical consideration.
