Best Gaming Headsets Under $300: Which Model Fits Your Console and Priorities?

The best headset under $300 depends on the exact console variant and live price. Compare the Audeze Maxwell, SteelSeries Nova 5 family and Logitech ASTRO options.

The best gaming headset under $300 depends first on your platform and the price of the exact variant today. For premium wireless audio, the Audeze Maxwell is a strong candidate when your version is at or below budget; for a lower-cost option, consider the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 family. For a base station and multi-device switching, the Logitech ASTRO A50 Gen 5 may fit the budget at its observed sale price, while the A50 X was above it.

Which gaming headset under $300 should you choose?

Start with platform compatibility, then check current price, fit and the connections you need. The figures below are dated snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or a live ranking. Audeze and Logitech prices were observed on October 7, 2026; Tom’s Guide’s Nova 5P price was in a guide updated September 25, 2026.

Model Price evidence Platform and standout consideration
Audeze Maxwell Wireless Gaming Headset Audeze listed $299–$329 USD depending on version, accessed October 7, 2026. Only some versions meet a strict $300 ceiling. Choose the PlayStation or Xbox version for your console. Manufacturer specifications include 490 g weight and over 80 hours of wireless playback at 80 dBA.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 family Tom’s Guide listed Nova 5P at $129 in its September 25, 2026 guide; verify today’s price and stock. Variants differ; Tom’s Guide says Xbox buyers need Nova 5X. Check the exact listing and platform compatibility.
Logitech ASTRO A50 Gen 5 Logitech’s US catalog displayed $249.99, down from $299.99, as a flash sale on October 7, 2026. This promotion may have ended. A base station is useful if you value a dedicated setup; confirm the configuration and compatibility for your devices.
Logitech Astro A50 X Logitech’s US catalog displayed $329.99, down from $399.99, as a flash sale on October 7, 2026—above budget at that snapshot. T3 describes button-based switching among PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 via the base station. Its UK deal price is not a US price.

Is the Audeze Maxwell worth buying near $300?

It is a premium option when the exact PlayStation or Xbox version is priced within your limit. Audeze lists a $299–$329 range by version, so the family is not reliably under $300. Confirm the current price and console-specific model before ordering. Audeze’s Maxwell specifications and listing identify a 90 mm planar magnetic transducer, closed-back over-ear design, Bluetooth 5.3 and a detachable hypercardioid boom microphone.

Consider weight and battery claims in context

Audeze lists the headset at 490 g. That is a meaningful consideration for long sessions: a headset’s fit and how its mass feels on your head may matter more to comfort than a specification sheet’s audio features. If possible, check the return policy or try the fit before committing.

Who should skip it?

Look elsewhere if you need a lighter-feeling headset, want a guaranteed price below $300, or would rather pay less for a model that meets your platform needs. The Maxwell’s listed price range crosses the budget line.

Which cheaper option works across platforms?

The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 family is a lower-priced comparison point. Tom’s Guide listed the Nova 5P at $129 in its guide updated September 25, 2026, but that is a dated listing rather than a promise of today’s price. The guide describes PC, PlayStation, Switch and Xbox variants and says Xbox buyers need the Nova 5X. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 headset guide is secondary reporting; check the specific model’s current compatibility and price with the seller before buying.

Do not assume a model name covers every console version. Read the package and listing carefully, especially when a store groups multiple variants on one product page.

Is wireless worth it, and what should you compare?

Wireless is worthwhile when freedom to move, fewer cables or switching between devices matters more to you than keeping the setup simple. Before choosing, confirm the exact connection types on the model you plan to buy—such as 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth or wired use—and whether they support the devices and use cases you have. The Maxwell specifications, for example, list Bluetooth 5.3; do not treat that fact as proof that another model offers the same connections.

  • Platform: Confirm the specific PlayStation, Xbox, PC or other-device version. A family name alone may not establish compatibility.
  • Comfort: Consider headset weight, fit and how long you wear it. Heavier models may not suit every user.
  • Microphone: Check whether the mic is detachable or boom-style and whether that suits your calls and play.
  • Battery: Treat manufacturer playback figures as rated specifications, not guaranteed real-world results.
  • Price: Verify the exact variant’s live price and stock in your market. A sale snapshot can change, and the price of one console version may differ from another.

When does a base station make sense?

A base station can be valuable if you regularly move between several gaming devices and want a convenient way to switch. T3 describes the Astro A50 X switching among PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at the press of a button through its base station. That multi-device feature does not make it an under-$300 pick by default: Logitech’s US catalog showed it at $329.99 on flash sale on October 7, 2026. A UK deal price reported by T3 should not be applied to US shopping.

How to make the final choice

  1. Set your actual ceiling. Decide whether $300 is a hard cap or a target before tax and shipping.
  2. Identify your devices. Write down the console or PC you use, then match it to the exact headset variant.
  3. Pick your priority. Choose among premium specifications, a lower entry price, long-session fit or base-station switching.
  4. Check the live listing. Confirm price, sale status, stock, variant and included accessories in your region.
  5. Review comfort and return terms. Pay particular attention to weight if you wear a headset for long sessions.

PC Gamer’s wireless-headset guide updated February 12, 2026 continued to recommend the original Maxwell as its high-end wireless option after reviewing Maxwell 2. That is PC Gamer’s editorial judgment based on its testing, not a universal verdict. PC Gamer’s 2026 wireless-headset guide offers that perspective.
