Remnant II is the clearest choice if you want demanding, boss-focused action with firearms at the center and melee combat still in the mix. It borrows some Soulslike pressures—especially tough encounters and checkpoints that reset the world—but adds guns, character archetypes, generated areas, and drop-in co-op. Remnant: From the Ashes is the natural predecessor; Lies of P is a useful Soulslike comparison, but not an equivalent gunplay pick.
Which game best combines Soulslike combat and gunplay?
Remnant II: the strongest match
Remnant II is the most direct recommendation because shooting is a core part of its combat rather than an occasional tool. Gunfire Games describes its combat as a mix of methodical and frenetic ranged and melee action, set against large boss battles and choices about gear. That combination makes it a better fit for a shooter-forward Soulslike search than a conventional Soulslike where firearms are absent or incidental.

The Soulslike label is useful, but it does not mean Remnant II follows the same formula as a FromSoftware game. In a 2023 interview with Xbox Wire, Gunfire Games president David Adams said players make the comparison because of the difficulty and checkpoints that reset the world. He also distinguished Remnant II with its guns, archetypes, randomly generated worlds, and seamless drop-in/drop-out co-op.

- Gunplay: Firearms are central, while melee remains part of the ranged-and-melee combat mix.
- Soulslike challenge: Difficult encounters, major bosses, and world-resetting checkpoints provide the clearest shared structure.
- Builds and replay: Unlockable archetypes, gear choices, and dynamically generated areas give players reasons to experiment and revisit content.
- Players: You can play solo or team up with two other people, according to the Steam listing and the developer’s description.
Those differences matter if you are choosing based on the feel you want: Remnant II is a Soulslike-adjacent action shooter, not simply a Souls game with a gun added.

How does Remnant: From the Ashes compare?
Remnant: From the Ashes is the predecessor and the obvious next stop if you want more of the same broad mix of shooting, bosses, and challenging action. Adams told Xbox Wire that Remnant II’s story continues from the first game’s final DLC, but said newcomers should still be able to start with the sequel: “We try to keep the stories in our games simple, so players should have no trouble picking it up.”
If you prefer to follow the story in order or explore the series from its beginning, start with From the Ashes. If you mainly want the newer game’s combat and co-op, the developer’s comments indicate that prior story knowledge is not required to pick up Remnant II.

Is Lies of P a gunplay alternative?
Lies of P is a useful comparison if what you want most is a demanding Soulslike feel and weapon variety. Its official description emphasizes combining weapons and using Legion Arms and their abilities. That supports recommending it to players who want flexible, expressive combat, but it does not establish a central firearms loop. Choose it for the Soulslike side of the brief, not as a like-for-like alternative to Remnant II’s shooting.
How long is Remnant II?
In the July 2023 Xbox Wire interview, Adams estimated 20 or more hours for the main story and 60–100 hours to complete everything, possibly longer. Those are the developer’s estimates, not independently measured playthrough times; actual time depends on how much optional content you pursue and how you play.
