These are different takes on the survivor-like formula, so the right next game depends on which part of the loop you want more of.
How to choose a game like Vampire Survivors
“Survivor-like” and “bullet heaven” are useful labels, not perfectly settled genre boundaries. A practical way to compare games is to ask how much control you have over attacks, whether a run adds objectives beyond surviving, and whether you most enjoy unlocking characters or assembling a powerful build.

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor: automatic combat with mining objectives
Choose this if you like moving through enemy crowds while attacks trigger automatically, but want the environment to give each run another job. Steam describes a single-player survivor-like auto-shooter featuring alien hordes, cave mining, resource collection, and upgrades. Mining makes the loop more than simply lasting against waves: you also work through caves and gather resources as you fight.
#1 Best Overall
- Play as an immortal Successor - You are a Successor, an immortal warrior empowered by the gods Lu, Ashuran, and Harnia. When you die, you revive with your gear, runes, and unlocks intact and head back out from Cliffshire to push further into corrupted zones. Choose your Successor - You'll start as the Spellblade and unlock additional Successors as you progress. Each has its own skill tree, weapons, and playstyle
- Playable Classes - Spellblade-Element-focused hybrid with close and mid-range attacks built around fire, frost, and lightning. Berserker - Heavy melee bruiser that trades its own HP and positioning for huge damage and armor. Hunter - Mobile ranged fighter using thrown weapons, poison, and beast abilities to apply damage over time and control space.
- 2D Roguelite Hack-and-Slash Combat - Combat revolves around precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks, and committing to aggressive combos. Areas are multi-layered 2D stages that reshuffle enemy layouts, hazards, and loot each run. When you fall, you lose gold and temporary bonuses, but your gear and runes stay with you and form the base of your next attempt.
- Loot, Runes, and Artifacts - Hunt Elites and Bosses to claim Rune Stones, then craft them into Legendary and Mythic equipment. Runes and class skill trees interact to define your build, while artifacts you pick up mid-run stack into powerful synergies.
- Bonus Goodie - Poster is packed inside.

20 Minutes Till Dawn: active aiming and firing
This is the clearest choice in this group if you want more direct control over combat. Steam specifically lists “Directional aim and active firing,” setting it apart from games where your main combat input is positioning while attacks happen automatically. The store description also highlights waves of creatures, characters, weapons, runes, special abilities, and dynamic builds, with runs described as lasting 10–20 minutes.

Soulstone Survivors: spells, bosses, and build synergies
Pick this if the appeal of a survivor-like is combining abilities into a build that feels stronger and more distinctive as a run develops. The official site describes secret spells, craftable weapons, multiple characters, progression, and build synergies. Steam’s listing also calls out hordes and colossal bosses. Together, those features make it the strongest fit here for players drawn to spell combinations and a substantial build-crafting layer.
