If you want to build, save, and share creations, the closest alternative depends on what you want to make. Teardown is a strong pick for sandbox experimentation in destructible levels, with saved Creative Mode assets and platform-dependent mod access. Scrap Mechanic is better suited to vehicles and contraptions, with multiplayer survival and Steam Workshop support. Neither reproduces Garry’s Mod’s broad mix of physics building and community addons.
What makes a game like Garry’s Mod?
Garry’s Mod is a physics-based sandbox built on a modified version of Valve’s Source Engine. Facepunch highlights constructions with moving parts, online cooperative building, and community addons on its official Garry’s Mod page. That combination matters: a game can be excellent for building machines yet still feel quite different if it lacks open-ended props, sharing tools, or collaborative play.

Facepunch’s page lists updates from 2026, including one in September, so Garry’s Mod remains an actively updated reference point rather than a discontinued product. The alternatives below are organized by the creative loop they support, not by a claim that they are interchangeable.

Teardown: build and experiment in destructible spaces
Choose Teardown if you want to create and test ideas inside environments designed around destruction. It is less of a general-purpose prop sandbox than Garry’s Mod, but its sandbox modes and saved Creative Mode assets make it a practical option for experimentation.

- Various functions
Tuxedo Labs’ official FAQ says: “Yes, each level in the campaign has a separate sandbox mode to play around in with unlimited resources.” The FAQ also explains how to save Creative Mode assets and respawn them later. This makes it possible to retain creations within the game, though it is not the same as a universal publishing system for every kind of build.
Mods depend on platform. PC players can use Steam Workshop; console players get curated Mod Packs instead of Steam Workshop access. The FAQ says Creative Mode works on PS5 and Xbox versions, and that physical editions are available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you are looking for a physical copy, check current retailer stock and product details; availability can change.

- USE YOUR DICE WELL - It’s in the tagline of the game: “Dice Break The Rules.” Being able to choose not to follow the lead suit when it’s advantageous to you can be huge! Don’t ignore collecting dice.
- MANIPULATE THE X CARDS - Having the most X’s is bad: they each count as one negative point. You might be able to feed your x cards to the perceived scoring leader.
- HOLDING ONTO CARDS - Because you score cards left in hand, it can be a fun challenge to try and keep well-scoring cards not be pulled out by the trick-taking rules.
- ART BY BETH SOBEL - "Mori" is the Latin word for death and the Japanese word for forest. Both of these interpretations are represented in the artwork of this card game.
- PRAISE FOR MORI - "a fresh take on a familiar genre that will be an easy learn for fans of this type of card game." BGG User KRWoods1
For PC, Tuxedo Labs’ FAQ lists a minimum graphics card compatible with OpenGL 4.5 and at least 3 GB of video memory, and says Intel integrated graphics are not supported. Check the current Steam listing for the latest system requirements before buying, as requirements can change.
Scrap Mechanic: build vehicles and contraptions
Scrap Mechanic is a better match if your main interest is engineering vehicles, machines, and other physics-based contraptions. Its Steam listing describes a multiplayer survival sandbox with physics-based building, Steam Workshop support, and a level editor.

- 3d first person horror adventure.
- Adrenaline Rush: Experience the thrill of the chase and the exhilaration of evading a relentless pursuer.
- With multiple paths to take and secrets to uncover, each playthrough offers a new experience.
- Sound experience
That focus is narrower than Garry’s Mod’s flexible prop-and-addon sandbox: Scrap Mechanic’s appeal is constructing machines within a survival-game framing. The listing supports Workshop access, but does not establish detailed steps for publishing or sharing a particular creation, so check the game’s current Workshop and editor documentation if that workflow is essential to you.
