“Borderlands MMO revival” refers to BLOL, a community restoration of Borderlands Online. BLOL’s FAQ describes the original as a 2015 experience released in China and cancelled shortly afterward. The project homepage advertises English localization, native 4K support, 120+ FPS, and unlocked field of view. These are project claims, not independent performance measurements or proof that every planned feature is complete. BLOL’s homepage lists those goals.

What to expect from BLOL right now
GamesRadar reported that the restoration had entered public playtesting and could be played online or offline. The report also described English localization work, including resizing interface elements and making replacement HUD elements. Those details indicate restoration work is underway, but they do not establish that every original feature is restored or that the experience is stable for every player.

EpicNNG, the modder, dataminer, and indie developer identified by GamesRadar, cautioned players to “expect bugs, broken skills, animations, server outages, and more inconveniences” while the project was still being improved. Is BLOL free to play?
BLOL’s FAQ says the restoration is free, requires an account, and has no paid features or microtransactions. It also warns that anyone charging for something related to the project is a scam. Since this is a community project, check the official FAQ for current access details rather than relying on third-party payment or download claims.

Which should you play?
- Choose Borderlands 2 if you want the straightforward option: an officially listed campaign and four-player co-op or split-screen. The Xbox listing describes those features.
- Try BLOL if your main interest is seeing the restored Borderlands Online branch and you are comfortable with a community project reported to be in playtesting, with possible technical problems. Read the project FAQ for current access information.
This is not a choice between a new sequel and an old one: BLOL restores a separate Borderlands experience, while Borderlands 2 is the official campaign game in this comparison. The available sources do not establish that BLOL continues the story of Borderlands 2.
