For a balanced setup, keep adaptive 120 Hz motion if smooth scrolling matters, set brightness only as high as comfortable for the room, and use the tablet’s automatic visibility features when they help. If runtime matters more than motion, check whether your shipping Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra software offers a lower refresh-rate choice; Samsung has not published a battery-life gain for switching to one.
The tablet was announced on September 30, 2026, and Samsung says availability begins October 7 in select markets. At the time of writing, exact One UI 9 setting names and paths have not been confirmed on a retail device, so the guidance below focuses on what to look for rather than presenting unverified tap-by-tap instructions.

Choose settings around your priority
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra has a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2960 × 1848 resolution and an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Samsung identifies the screen hardware and adaptive behavior, but its reviewed product information does not establish the exact refresh-rate options or controls shown in One UI 9 on the shipping tablet. Samsung’s US launch release describes the display; confirm the actual labels and choices on your device before changing them.

| Priority | Starting point | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Smoother scrolling and animation | Keep adaptive 120 Hz behavior if it is available in your display settings. | Higher refresh behavior may use more power than a lower option, but no model-specific battery difference is established. |
| Longer runtime | Look for a lower refresh-rate choice, if your retail software provides one. | Motion may appear less fluid; no percentage or added hours can be promised. |
| Comfortable indoor viewing | Lower brightness to a comfortable level and raise it only when needed. | A lower setting may be harder to read in bright surroundings. |
| Outdoor readability | Allow ambient-light visibility features to help, and use higher brightness when conditions require it. | Maximum brightness is a visibility tool, not a default setting for every environment. |
How to adjust screen behavior without relying on an unverified menu path
Samsung lists Android 17 with One UI 9 for the S12 Ultra, but the available model-specific material does not document the precise menu path or names for Motion smoothness, refresh rate, Battery, or Power saving on this tablet. Rather than follow a path written for an older Galaxy model, open the Settings app on your own tablet and use its settings search for terms such as “refresh rate,” “motion smoothness,” “brightness,” or “power saving.” The labels and available choices should be checked against the software build installed on the device.

- For smoother motion: find the refresh or motion setting, if present, and retain the adaptive or higher-refresh choice.
- For runtime: check whether a lower refresh option is offered, select it only if the motion trade-off is acceptable, and observe your own typical use rather than assuming a specific battery gain.
- For indoor use: reduce brightness until the screen remains easy to read without feeling unnecessarily bright.
- For changing light: look for Samsung’s ambient-light visibility feature and decide whether its automatic adjustments suit you.
Set brightness for the conditions
Samsung lists up to 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,000 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM) for the S12 Ultra. These are visibility capabilities for demanding conditions, not a recommendation to run the screen at maximum brightness continuously. Samsung also cautions that actual playback time varies with screen brightness, among other factors. Samsung’s UK specifications give the brightness figures and battery-use qualification.
In a dim room, a comfortable lower brightness is a sensible starting point; in direct or strong ambient light, raise it only as much as needed to read. Samsung describes Seamless Vision Booster as adjusting brightness and contrast in response to ambient lighting. Treat it as visibility assistance: the available information does not show that it saves battery or quantify its effect on runtime.
What the battery-life figures do—and do not—tell you
Samsung specifies an 11,600 mAh battery and up to 23 hours of video playback. That playback figure is based on Samsung’s internal lab testing with a pre-release model: 720p video stored on-device, played over LTE with Bluetooth earphones, under default settings. Samsung says real playback time varies with connection, settings, file format, brightness, and battery condition. It is not a promise of 23 hours for mixed everyday use. Samsung’s product specifications describe the test conditions.

Tom’s Guide reports 11 hours 31 minutes in a continuous Wi-Fi web-surfing test at 150 nits. This is a separate controlled workload and should not be treated as directly comparable to Samsung’s stored-video playback estimate. Neither result establishes how many hours a particular brightness or refresh-rate setting will add. Tom’s Guide’s review provides its test result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use Power saving only after checking your S12 Ultra’s controls
Samsung has documented Standard and Maximum Power saving modes, along with customizable limits, for the older Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. That does not confirm the same names, options, or behavior on the S12 Ultra running One UI 9. The Tab S9 Ultra update notice applies to that older model, not the S12 Ultra.
If your S12 Ultra offers a power-saving mode, read its on-screen description before enabling it and consider whether any restrictions fit your needs. Do not assume that settings documented for another Galaxy tablet exist or behave identically on this one.

Keep demanding sessions and heat in perspective
Samsung says the S12 series uses a 3 nm processor and redesigned 3D vapor chamber intended to dissipate heat more efficiently. Samsung also claims up to 19% faster CPU and 17% improved GPU performance versus the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra; those are manufacturer comparisons, not independent S12 Ultra benchmark results. Samsung’s global launch release describes the hardware. Improved heat dissipation is not a guarantee that sustained demanding workloads cannot warm the tablet or affect performance.
Samsung lists a 45 W adapter for its charging claim and says the charger is not included. That may matter when planning how to recharge, but it is not a display setting or evidence of longer battery life. Check regional compatibility and USB-C power-delivery requirements before buying an adapter; no third-party charger has been tested here. Samsung’s UK product information covers charging and included items.
